I will be in the hillsboro , portland Oregon area ~ Mar 17 and I am wonderig what courses the locals recommend I play? Also any mini's on the weekends?
What? Tahoe last year and now Oregon? Careful or you will catch up to me on frequent flyer miles. I know someone who plays in that area, I'll get you info if I can find it. If not I will be in Vegas at that time, we could hook up there!

Pier Park in Portland is a must-play. I played the course for the first time last year, and it was the highlight of my trip to the Pacific Northwest. This is undeniably one of the most beautiful courses I have ever seen in my life, out of over 115 courses played. When you picture in your head what a course in the Pacific Northwest might look like, this is it: fairways over rolling hills and between towering 100+ foot redwoods and evergreens. You almost feel like Alice in Wonderland walking around on this course because of the large trees, and it warps your frame of reference in terms on lengths of the holes. As far as playability goes, the course mostly plays as a lot of par 3.5s – many holes that are really difficult to birdie, but scoring a 4 feels like a bogey. Most holes are shots between the trees, but it’s tough to call them tunnel shots because the trees are spaced far apart and only keep honest drives honest. There are also several off-the-top-of-hill downhill chucks, that will have you emptying your entire bag.
Go play this course, you won't regret it!

I played the course at Milo McIver State park right after it went in, and I would consider it a should play in the area. I recently talked to a player from there, and he said they have completely reworked the front side along the river and made it longer and tougher. It should be well worth the trip now. It is on the other side of Portland from Hillsboro near Estacada.
