Im looking into a new midrange and have thus far only been using innova. I want to try some discraft and am wondering what people think about the wasp and the buzz. I've been approaching with a kc pro roc (167) and a rhyno. The roc ive recently been using is already flippy and beat and i hesitate to throw it in any headwind. Im looking for a roc-like straight midrange that isnt as stable as the rhyno that i can use for both short and long approaches as well as short to mid drives. lip and dome discriptions on the wasp and buzzz would be helpful as well as any other input you have (maybe a different model roc is the answer?) and i have read reviews from discgolfreview.com so a link won't be necessary. thank you for your replies. :D

The Buzzz is a real good mid-range, it holds a good straight line and you can get some distance out of it. The Wasp is stable and is good for some drives and short upshots, you could also try the Z-Xtreme instead.
You could get a champion Roc, but they are expensive and hard to get. Or you can get a Flat Z-Buzzz. On a Buzzz, there is no real bead, but it does not have a sharp edge like a driver. A Wasp is just an overstable Buzzz, or more correctly a Buzzz is a straight Wasp. Wasps are more over stable then a Champion Roc. But a Flat Z-Buzzz is the closest thing to a Roc. Domey Z-Buzzzes are fairly understable. There is a noticeable difference between the Domey and Flat Buzzzes, so you will be able to tell when you see them side by side.
I have all three discs that I mentioned, and keep all in my bag.

Wasp is pretty much the same as a Roc. I would just go heavier and get a Z Wasp because it wont get beat up like the KC Roc did. The BUZZZ is a Wasp with no bead. The BUZZZ is IMO the best midrange on the market. You can put this thing on ANY line and it will just hold that line. For midrange discs I carry 1 178 Z Wasp (overstable drives and approaches 250-350ft) 3 Z BUZZZs 178 177 170 (straight and anhyzer Drives and approaches 250-350ft) and a D BUZZZ (flip shots and super anhyzers 200-300ft distance if diff because it cant handle as much torque as the others)
What weights do you like to throw. Was the 168 Roc Overstable for you at first. If you let me know what weights you like i can help you out a little more.

I would get a heavy Roc and a heavy QMS...that covers about everything.

Gotta get a Z-Buzz.
I like the Z-Buzzz! Mine are first run, which are flatter on top, and a little more overstable than the domier ones. Thay all seem to fly very well! Before the Buzzz, I really liked the Champion Shark, but I just could not get the distance I wanted. I also liked the DX roc, but when you hit one tree, then it's a turnover disc, and how many of those does one guy really need? Champion rocs are out of my price range to throw. I will save mine and hope everyone else keeps throwin theirs! :D

Super ROC!!! I got a bunch of X-outs from Mark at discgolfvalues.com, and they're awesome! hold up better than the KC plastic IMHO, if you want a really indestructable plastic go Z-wasp... that's a great disc too!

I'm throwing Rocs and Elements and a Demon for mids. I carry 3 Rocs (180 10X- pretty beat, turnover/ 180 Ching Sneeky Pete stamp- overstable roc/ 174 Lonestar Cafe stamp San Marino- holds any line its put on), 2 Elements (both protos 1 S plastic 174- finesse shots and turnovers/ 1 E plastic 182 straight shots w/ turnover finish), 1 S plastic Demon for hyzers and headwinds.
The super roc or the flat z buzz would fit your need. Personally I would go with the super roc though because I am used to the speed of rocs and the buzz seems a little faster to me.

I like to have a brand new 11x Roc at all times. I found a few x-outs that are really overstable. Pretty much as stable as the 2001 CE Rocs. I love them. I throw the Element for straight and turnover shots.
DX Roc is my favorite disc ever. If I am under 300' there is about a 90% chance that thats what I'm throwin. Its my go to disc. I usually try to carry them in three stages...new, beat, and really beat. The Element that I only threw a handful of times before winter seemed to fly dead straight with a touch of hyzer on it. I'm gonna have fun with that disc next year. I also love my First Run Z Buzzz. I have 7 aces out of my 10 total lifetime with Rocs and Buzzzs(5-DX Roc/2-Z Buzzz)

How does the first run Buzz fly compared to later runs?
Well, the 1st run is the most overstable one I have thrown. Mine has a perfectly flat top. All the later run Buzzzs I've seen are pretty domey and less stable. This can be seen as a good or bad thing I guess. I like my stable flat top though.
I too carry DX rocs in three stages. A beat roc is a GOOD roc...And I always have my '01 when I need it and I wont hesitate to throw it either....

My first run is a little less stable than my newest one. They are both really flat and fly more or less the same. The first run does feel like a little different plastic as it is opaque violet and softer than my new clear orange one.
If you check the thread "Questions for Keith M". He answers that the Buzzz was designed with a flat top. Even the new ones are pretty much flat. Some come out domey due to the cooling process. But I figured out a way to fix that and make them flat again.

I figured it out too... all i did was throw it in my oven for about 10 minutes. I preheated the oven to warm- 150-200 degrees, turned it off, then put my buzzz in there. My buzzz got mangled in the suitcase (all warped and bent) and it fixed teh problem and made my buzzz flatter. disclaimer *I dont use this disc in pdga*

or take your domey buzz and lay it upside down on a flat surface. fill with boiling water. come back in an hour or so and viola--flat buzz. same disclaimer as above
I do not think that you need a disclaimer for "fixing" those Buzzes. Keith Murray says that the Buzzz was designed to be Flat, and that the Domey ones are an anomoly of the cooling process. So all you are doing is restoring the Buzzz to it's intended design. It would be amongst the same premise of reshaping a taco'd disc. If you prefer a more understable Buzzz, then you are lucky getting the domey ones, but a beat up flat Buzzz is the king of turn over mid ranges.
Why would you have a disc you were not going to throw in competition? I have a practice bag, but it is just a smaller representation of my tournament bag.

The buzzz is my primary midrange... the "warped" disc in question no longer is carried due to warpage.
Why would you have a disc you were not going to throw in competition?
For fun. Strangely enough, some people play disc golf for the sheer enjoyment and aren't always preparing for the next tournament.

Ok, let me rephrase that, I apologize for insulting the recreational players. (Why would you have a disc that you were not going to throw?)

This goes out to my man TG who hooked me up with a new D Buzz over the weekend. I am a Roc junkie and have to say after playing a couple of round with the D Buzz it is a sweet disc. The plastic feels great and it hold a fantastic line. I am not sure if It will replace my Rocs but it has sure peaked my interest.

1st Run Z Wasps are probably my favorite disc to drive with. So predictable and consistant.
I also love Flat 1st Run Z Buzz's. New they are the perfect straight short range driver(MRV for any longer straight drives), when they wear in they are a perfect turnover short driver.

Slothrower,
I dont know if you made your decision yet but I throw only the Buzzz and comet as my mids. By the way; the Comet is my all time favorite disc. I find that there is no need to carry any other mids. The Buzzz is very versatile and has exceptional tolerance to wind. It is straight at high speed, I can put as much hyzer on it as I want and I can turn it. Once again the Buzzz is versatile and exceptionally FAST. I never liked the way Rocs, Aurora MS, and Sentinel MF and Wasps felt in my hands and the Buzzz does not have the bead on it, which makes it very comfortable in my hands. Before the Buzzz I threw the CE and Pro Spider (now Champion), which is also very comfortable, but it is not as fast nor is it as versatile for me. If my answer is not too late I hope it helps.
