I see lots of stupid thread that get into manufacturer bashing, with people having some allegience to a given company. I'd like to hear why you choose to throw a certain company or why you don't like another.

Ground Rules:
1) It's pretty pointless to say something like "they suck", so try to say something informative like "I tend to have a tough time gripping thier plastic" .

2) Don't talk about how good you are. Nobody cares, and few want to go to the effort to make you prove it.

3) Don't talk about how disc X made you win a tourney/rating/etc. Rather talk about what you like about the company's offering in general and why their characteristics fit your game.

4) Getting into things like value, size of the company, what they do for the game, and customer service is fair game.

5) Don't make posts just to **** a bunch of folks off. It's ignorant and I am genuinely interested in what people have to say about this, not get into 3 pages of who whipped who.

6) No making fun of somebody's grammar mistakes.

I personally am a disc slut and have tried everything I can get my hands on to enhance my game. At this point, my conclusion is that almost every company makes some choice discs. I want to know why I should choose X over Y, because right now I choose both X and Y.

I got started w/ Discraft. The guy who introduced me to the game had just received a box from them and most of my first discs came from that box. For a while I didn't care and would throw anything. Then at a World's Biggest, I got one of the first JK Valk's. I really loved this disc. I popped off some huge drives at a tourney and decided to go get myself some more. The ones that I found were NOTHING like what I was trying to duplicate. This and the frenzy I have watched concerning old Champion Edition plastics has left a bad taste in my mouth that I am still trying to spit out! If I don't have easy access to more of what I need, I'm not going to throw it. But I can also say that whose disc it is doesn't mean squat compared to what you can do with it. I will NEVER rag on someone else's choice. (So long as it's not Wham-O. The trademarking of the term "frisbee" leaves them open to any abuse I can dish out as far as I'm concerned.)

I throw Discraft primarily for my drivers. I choose Z plastic because it is very, very durable, and it is also very stiff and hard. I don't like the disc to feel mushy in my hand and flex when I am gripping it. Those are my two main reason, lateral stiffness and durability.

As secondary reasons go, I don't like the huge logos that Innova puts on their discs, I like my equipment to look clean, and having a HUGE logo covering the entire top of the disc to me is ugly, I much prefer the small bar stamps that Discraft uses. Also Discraft does not change their plastic types as much as other companies, so when I get used to a disc, I can rest assured that they aren't going to discontinue the plastic in a year (pro, proline, champion, champion edition, kc 9x, 10x, 11x, jk 4x, 5x, etc). I used to love the Pro Firebird, I believe it came out two years ago and was produced for about a year or so, and then discontinued. The new firebird isn't the same, and I don't like it as much. So instead I learned the Predator, and with a few small problems (the orange run :( ) I have grown to love the fact that when I lose one, I can go buy one and expect it to do the same thing as the other one did when it was new.

You guys already know what company i stick with and now i will finally get to tell you why without someone ripping my head off.

Discraft is the company i choose to throw and support and stick with.

First off let me say that I started out throwing ALL INNOVA so its not like i havent tried both. I used to Throw Valks, TBirds Rocs Rhynos and Aviars. I first bought a Discraft disc because i wanted a CE Roc but didnt want to pay 50 or 100 bucks for one. So instead i picked up a Z Wasp. This disc became my best friend. Always flew the same had a great flight path and just felt better in my hand then a Roc did. I ended up losing that Wasp in a lake and i was SOOOOO ****** because every time i would lose one of my Innova discs i would go get another one and it wouldnt fly anything like the one i lost. So i went out and bought another Z Wasp same weight same color. To my surprise it flew EXACTLY like the one i had just lost in the lake. So from there i started to try more and more Discraft discs and i kept finding the same results. They alll seemed to fly the same as long as they were the same weight and color. If they were a diff color they would fly slightly different but not extremely different like the Innova discs i was throwing.

So that is why i switched over. Now i will explain why i have stayed with them and i support them and think they are the better company.

Reasons I stick with Discraft:
I like the feel and toughness of Z Plastic more then Champion
I think Discraft is more consistent from run to run (other then the color and stability thing......which i might add is easy to figure out and can be quite helpful if you use it correctly)
I like the molds of their discs better. They just seem to work better for me.
Thier customer service is great and the factory is like 15 minutes from my house.
I think the guys that work there are cool and they are always willing to help you out with whatever you need help with.
I think they are pushing the limits a little better and faster then Innova is. I think Innova just keeps retooling what they have so that it flys different. I believe Discraft is producing completely new and improved molds and THEN tooling those so that they are Perfet. IE the BUZZZ, BREEZE, GLIDE, FLASH and FLICK.
They are also sponsoring our State series this year. They sponsor my 2 favorite tourny of the year. Memorial in AZ and DGLO right here in MI. They also are a huge part and sponsor of USADGC which is also right here in MI.

All and all i just like the guys that work there and the guys on their team and i think thier pushing the limits and producing the best most consistent discs on the market. :D

Being a disc golf store owner I have problems with both Discraft and Innova. Innova likes to send me all the same colors and Discraft sends me all the same weights (well they are marked the same but that doesn't mean anything). I weigh alot of discs and Innova is closer than Discraft when it comes to that. I've had Discraft that were 8 grams off. I throw both because I like the different molds. If I had to throw one brand it would be Discraft because I like their putters and drivers better. IF Discraft had something like a Gremlin I would throw all Discraft. I may have to eventually because Innova no longer makes the Gremlin. I am trying the element-X and liking it alot.

first off, if someone could enlighten me about the orange run predator, that would be great.
I choose Innova because of the molds they have and the fact they produced the most durable plastic made.I got sick of finding a disc I liked just to have it fly differently 6 months later and the CEs stepped up.With that being said,I think some of the new Champion plastic Sux.I could never find a Discraft driver I liked.I do have a Z Buzz on the way and it will be my first Z plastic experience. We'll see,Great looking Discs though,I take nothing away from them

Jan 25 2005, 04:35 PM
i throw innova because in my mind they are the most original manufacturer. most other discs seem to all be take-offs of Dunipace's ideas.. and all the other Innova discs i carry i find to be the best in class for me. i don't throw any discraft because i have took time to learn the discs i carry and they happen to be innova so why change it up? also i am really against discraft putting stickers on discs, and raised lettering on the inner rim, both heavily stray me from their plastic.

Jan 25 2005, 04:48 PM
Innova Drivers
Discraft Midranges
SB Aviar Putters

It is all about how they feel, and Innova does not have a midrange like the Wasp, nor one as versitile as the Buzzz.

Some deviation but not much.

honestly i could throw either the roc or z-wap with the same results. i just choose the roc for the plastics. i do have several of the first run wasps in case i change my mind. i think those discs are the best discraft has ever made. :D

Innova for controlled drivers ( Teebird and Leopard- all types )
Innova for Distance Drivers ( Champ Orc, Pro Orc )
Discraft for Overstable Drivers ( Z Pred )
Discraft for Mids ( Z Buzzz, D Wasp )
Discraft for Putters ( Challenger, Swirl APX )

I feel both companies have a lot to offer. As far as inconsistencies, both ( I should say all) companies have them, what i do now is that when I find something i like, i buy as many as I can... (I need one or two more "2003 tournament stamped orange Z Preds...willing to pay $$ for them! )

My motto is: Find what I like (brand, color, run), and hoard them! -- I have about:
fifteen 10x Teebird KC/CE Blend
5 White First Run Champ Orcs
5 2nd Run CE Eagle "EL"
8 SE Leopards
7 Tsunamis
2 Orange Z Preds
4 First Run Z BUZZZ
6 Second Run Z Buzzz
5 Worlds Black Soft Challenger
4 Second Run CE Teebird TL
Etc

What is special about an orange Z Predator,Ive seen it come up twice already on this post.

Jan 25 2005, 05:19 PM
In terms of plastic, Discraft's Z is my favorite. And like someone elso said on this thread, I like the fact that the Elite-Z discs are stamped so unobtrusively. On the minus side, though, has been the fact that it has been hard to find lighter weights of Z discs. I know they are starting to release some lighter weights now, but I have not yet picked any up. For drivers, then, I have a couple of Discraft (Z Flash and Z Reaper) and a few Innova (150-gm Champ Valk, a champ Teebird, and a DX Archangel).

For midranges, I carry three -- two Discraft (Z Buzzz and Z Wasp, both are wonderful discs) and a Gateway Demon (old S version, use only for a few shots when I really need a big left turn). Again, I like the Z plastic, and Innova does not have much that is value-competitive with these two discs.

Finally, putters -- I carry two, at the moment an X-Putt'r and a proto Wizard (in the summer the X-Putt'r is replaced by a Z-Putt'r). I've never found an Innova putter that feels right in my hand.

Overall, then, I admire Z plastic, and if push came to shove, I guess Discraft is my favorite manufacturer, but I never have been able to fill my whole bag with discs from just one company.

I still can't quite take Gateway seriously. They make some nice discs, but their aesthetics leave much to be desired. But they seem to be moving up.

Finally, I am certainly intrigued by the Discwing Quarter K, but it will most likely be a long, long time until I am able to finally throw one. We shall see...

I started playing with Innova, just because where I am it's popular, and the local pro's say "hey try this, it's good" so I would get one, get used to it, and like it. I have some of the same discs/molds that I started with, b/c I got used to them. The only disc I really rotate, is my Ultra distance driver, trying out the "latest and greatest" driver of the moment.

Personally, I think that the Z plastic, and the Champion plastic are very very very similar, when it's wet they're slick as soap, and when it's dry out they're money. I don't personally see much of a diff. I like the Pro/X plastics the best, and they both have their benifits.

I don't see what the diff is, both companies are very similar.

It's unfortunate that I don't see that much Gateway plastic up here in BC, b/c of the few discs I've tried, they're pretty sweet.

so basically I chose Innova, b/c I throw it and I love to play disc golf. But in my mind, Discrat and Gateway have interchangeable discs aswell. :D

Predator's overstability can be equated Firebird more or less, the Orange run I am referring to was about as stable as a Teebird/Talon. Which is fine, but when you are expecting to throw a Predator, and it acts like a Teebird, bad things happen :).

Totally, it was just weird ripping a BRAND NEW Predator and having it flip over and take of rolling.
The way I look at it is that if I want to throw a Teebird, I'll buy a Teebird.

I throw mostly Innova (around 75-80% of my bag) - though I'm not a brand~loyal kind of guy. I have stacks of DX Rocs*, DX Aviar P&As*, T'Birds*, Firebirds*, Rhynos*, Eagles, Valks, etc, from years past to last quite awhile. Those first 5 molds can do it all for me...though let's not leave out Beasts, Orcs, etc...

Discraft makes excellent discs and I'm sure I could be just as happy throwing only their molds. I carry Crushes, Preds, Wasps, Buzzz'es as needed. I've liked my soft black Challenger quite a bit, too. Throw in a Gateway G5i Demon...and I would be set!

I must echo an above post regarding the raised letters/numbers in the inner rim of Discraft Z-plastic...very distracting and useless for me...as it can limit where I find a comfortable grip as the disc ages.

I'm glad I have a Gateway Tour Bag...cuz I can comfortably fit 20-25 discs in there to suit any situation!

I personally do not care who makes the disc. I carry Innova, Discraft, and Millinium. The only difference to me is the stamp on top, which I generally take off. I find the stamp a distraction, I like a clean flight plate.

I throw Innova for the Roc, I can't imagine playing DG without a DX Roc.

I throw Discraft for the durability and price. You should never hang your bag on a disc you can't replace.

I throw the Omega AP for the feel.

Congrats on getting two pages of responses with no one hatin on someone.

I throw Innova. My 13 year old son throws Innova. My 11 year old son throws Discraft. (Is that wierd?) We started back in 2002 and have remained faithful to our brands. Why? Primarily because of the analysis.

I did not want to try and compare one brand to the other (apples to oranges) every time my kids wanted a new disc.

If my 11 year old wants a longer driver or more turn on a mid-range, he is more likely to compare "apples to apples" if he stays with Discraft. No one wants to buy a disc and learn that it doesn't work. A waste of time. And pulling a disc out of my bag does him no good (unless it's brand new). He can narrow his search to just a few discs based on the numbers. If it still doesn't throw right....so be it.

We have gotten to the point where we don't really look in each other's bag. Our style and choice of discs are different.

Although I did catch him looking at my Champion Orc once

Why did we start that way. My oldest liked the graphic on his first Eagle and my youngest wanted everything fly-dyed. Real logic.

Mainly Innova, some Discraft, CE-JLSs and SS Omega putters.

I think it is a speed vs rotation thing.
I think most of Innova's long range discs like more rotation to speed than Discraft's long range discs do.

My weekly doubles partner throws Flashes and Crushes. They fly like my Beasts and Orcs/Starfires. If I throw his discs, they don't behave, If he throws mine they flip.

He has more speed in his throws than I do, and I have more snap. My speed is improving, and I might run out of Innova discs soon and have to move to the Crush, Just hasn't happened yet.

The two molds I would miss most if I didn't have them in my bag are the CE-JLS and ROC (besides the putters).

My 1st disc was an Aero. Being so close to Cal and Innova it's what was mainly available. I've thrown Lightning, vintage DGA, and Discraft.

As a collector, I've got to stick with Innova, they hold and gain in value. The other disc's do not.

For me, it's totally disc-by-disc. At Hawaii States last weekend, I carried:

Putters
- Discraft Z Putt'r
- Ching Juju
- Gateway Firm Wizard

Mids
- Discraft X Storm
- DGA Squall
- Discraft Z Wasp

Drivers
- Innova DX Teebird
- Discraft Z Xtreme
- Discraft X Xtreme
- Innova Champion Monster
- Discraft X Predator
- Discraft Z Flick
- Innova Champion Beast
- Discraft Z Crush

14 discs from 5 different makers. I vary the selection a bit depending on course, conditions, and how I'm feeling. Brand is irrelavent; if I like the disc, I use it.

My favorite plastic is probably Discraft X.

Jan 25 2005, 10:49 PM
I think Innova's disc rating system is a definite plus. As a beginner (i used to play with discraft), I struggled with finding the right kind of disc for me. I was all about discraft, but when you are young and don't play tourneys or talk to many veteran disc golfers, it is really hard to decide which discs to buy or throw. XS, XL, XTRA, XPRESS, X-Clone blah blah, I didn't know what that crap meant, and I had no idea what to expect from the disc when I threw it. But I saw innovas rating chart at the store i bought discs at, and it was a very large help in my decision making process. The speed, glide, high speed turn and low speed fade ratings helped me understand how a disc flies, and in turn helped me make a selection that i could feel good about. This is why I started throwing Innova, and probably the reason I am more comfortable with Innova plastic.

Jan 26 2005, 12:21 AM
Personally i have no preference. i have about 75% innova and this is just cause i prefer their dirvers and putters. but i love z wasps and z buzzes. just cant get a feel for any discraft putter.

I like the feel and grip on Z plastic more so then on Champ. but in wetter conditions i find the champ has a little more grip. as for pro/X plastic just dont like it, beats up way to quickly for my liking.
DX/ Pro-D. i find the dx to be grippier, and not beat up as quickly. also their is more flexiblilty in dx then pro-d.

I throw mainly Innova, all DX plastic.
Basically, I like my discs stiff (I said DISCS ), and I find the DX suits me best. I didn't mind the Z plastic from Discraft, as it's fairly rigid, but I can't stand the Candy plastic, it's too soft and floppy.
I'd throw more Discraft Z plastic, for the durability, but I'm so used to my Valk, Beast, Firebird driving combo now that I'd find it tough to change.

I would echo the sentiment that the flight chart by Innova is what drew me to expanding my bag with Innova discs. The discraft numbers just don't have enough info for me to figure out what discs would fit in the holes of my arsenal. My bag is all Innova (expect for my E-Element)

Jan 26 2005, 11:15 AM
Well from day 1 I've thrown some Gateway b/c theres a Gateway pro here in town and he gave me the hookup. I always prefered "S" to DX/D b/c it was grippier and seemed to hold up to a beating better. Plus the molds seemed more original whereas I'd ask what an Innova disc was and someone would say "Oh its a sharper nosed Roc." I just wanted some consistancy. At this point I was still throwing a TeeBird and a Roc. Then the Spirit came out, and I fealt I could throw all Gateway. So I did, and placed decently. So I threw all Gateway ever since then, and worked things out with David.

Another huge thing that makes me appreciate Gateway is how much David does for AMs. Not just sponsoring AMs, but the whole GDSTour thing. He goes above and beyond with the AMs than I feel anyother company attempts to.

Innova
I started with Innova discs when I didn't know there was any other brands. I've tries others- Discraft, Millenum, Gateway- and always come back to Innova. It just feels better in my hand. I would try other discs because I didn't want to be closed minded and do believe they all make some very good discs. I do find it pretty funny how everybody compares disc "X" to an Innova disc. I've tried the Wasp ("overstable Roc"), Buzzz ("beat Roc"), Challenger ("Aviar"), several drivers (same type comparison), and always return to the original. Innova drivers are the best (for me), no one has anything better than the Roc, and the Aviar (SB/BB) is still the best putter (IMO). Althouth the Wizard is fantastic. Throw what you like, until you get sponsored. I like Innova. And no, I'm not sponsored and prolly won't be anytime soon.

Jan 26 2005, 12:26 PM
I've been all innova so far but have only been playing for about six months. I started with them because of thier popularity with the other golfers in my area, but what has kept me with them is thier rating system as others have mentioned. While the system is useful i dont believe its a good reason to throw one brand exclusively. Discraft's (and others) stability rating is somewhat useful but for a begginer doesn't quite cut it. As I'm progressing I'm really looking for anything to give me that edge over my peers and am starting to get a handle on the flight paths of discs from other companies. I'm starting to try more and more discs as I don't think its beneficial to limit myself by having "brand loyalty"

Jan 26 2005, 02:09 PM
I'm just a casual player, and I throw Innova for the same reasons several others have mentioned. Namely, that's what I threw first because it was most readily available, then I was able to compare discs to each other using the Innova charts. I've found discs I like for most of the situations I face (after I figured out that the Spider fit my grip way better than the Shark does), and I assume that at my level of play, all the manufacturers' discs are fairly similar.

Reading about other manufacturers, I'd be interested in trying both Discraft (sitffer durable plastic?) and Gateway, but it would be difficult to know where to start, and I've got no real reason to replace my "good-enough" collection at this point :)

Jan 26 2005, 02:33 PM
So basically, most people started playing with a certain brand b/c someone (usually a local pro) introduced them to it, and b/c most of the big names put out pretty similar discs, people just seem to stick with the discs they know,

Or they just couldn't care at all. :D

Couldn't agree with you any more Fee, I'd have to say also, that with all of the different platics, runs, retools, and such, Innova offers a much larger selection when it comes to finding a disc which does not only what you want it to, but as to finding a lastic which you feel comfortable throwing...

Jan 26 2005, 06:41 PM
I really like ALL the manufacturers for one reason or another. To me,the best most comfortable disc ever made is the Special Edition Valkyrie. It is my farthest flying disc I own.I use a DX- XL
Discraft for some mid range shots and Gateways Sabre's,Apachies and Illusions are great for other shots. And my most used discs are Lightning
F-2 Flyer's that fill all the holes that other discs can't.My putter of choice is the Gateway wizard SS @160g. I have found no putter that can match the wizard or even come close.everything else in my bag is 150g. That's just about all this 70 yr.old arm can handle.

-I throw mostly Innova. Starting to sound like a cliche, but that's what Academy had when I started, so I kept going with it.
-I have thrown some discraft stuff, and some of it I like. Never could get used to the putters, or the Wasp/Buzzz, which seem to be discs that have caused "crossing over to the dark side." I might have to give them a try again since my form has gotten much better since I last threw them.
-I don't like the feel of the Z plastic as much as Champion; it just doesn't feel as gummy and grippy, although I like the way the Z-Xtreme and Z-Flick fly.
-I do wish everyone understood all the name changes that Innova went through...because I do, and many others do, but many others don't, and they constantly confuse CE with the current Champion. Although it sounds cheesy, I think Innova should have named it the "Candy line" to prevent confusion. Maybe in a few years it could revert back to Champion, but oh well.
-I haven't thrown very much Gateway, Lightning, or other brands. I haven't bought a disc in forever, since all my "disc" money now goes to tournaments, and I really only throw the plastic I win, which is Innova and Discraft.
-I do think it is funny watching those who are way too brand-defending.
-I do apologize for such a long post, but the grammar was correct! ;)

Have fun with your brand, just don't hit me in the head with it.

Jan 26 2005, 11:21 PM
When Innova announced that they were no longer producing CE plastic, but would replace it with something called "Champion," I called Discovering The World and ordered all of the FX's they had left. While they were being shipped to me, I started thinking about how much it sucked that I had to stockpile a disc I liked so much. I decided that:
a) it would do no good to complain about it
b) the best way to voice my humble opinion would be to vote with my $$.
c) That I would give Discraft a shot.

Since that point, I have had a bag full of Discraft. I appreciate the quality, consistency adn ready availability of their plastic and molds. Plus, I'm kinda a "buck the system" guy, and everyone here throws innova. :D

I, like most people here, started with all Innova because that is what Oshmans had when I started playing. I bought my first Discraft disk way back when the Cyclone originally came out and loved it. Shortly after that though I stopped playing for about 5 years. When I picked up the game again last year and was introduced to the new discs and plastics I tried everything I could get my hands on. I must have gone through nearly 1000$ worth of different discs. That said I will say that I found I prefer Discraft.

I completely agree with what gnduke said about discraft's drivers...they like more speed while innova's like more spin. I throw with a lot of speed and valks and beasts were just flipping to hard for me. I fell in love with X predators and X wildcats and they worked well for me for a while. I am now finding that I have to take the next step up as I'm flipping the wildcats and replacing them with Talons.

My nidranges are a total mixture. I carry Buzzz's in both plastics, I love my pro shark, and have started throwing a spider again and remembering how much I liked it. I put with Omega AP and supersofts depending on the length (and the fact that I turbo from inside 45ft means I need stiffer putters)

I have only tried 3 gateway discs and really liked them. My girlfriend recently claimed my wizard as her own so I need to get another one as I was really starting to like it. I had an E speed demon that was just way to overstable for me but was great for some things and i'd like to get another. I really like the S Sabre I have but need more practice with it.

I think being brand loyal is good to a point but don't limit yourself. There is a little bit of good from everything out there. You just have to find what fits your game the best and stay openminded to trying new things!

I used to throw almost all Innova plastic with the exception of the Comet. 10x Tee-Birds were my bread and butter drivers. When I started getting serious about the game and improving tremendous amounts, I had no idea about different run changes... Then all of the sudden here comes the 11x Tee-bird. I threw it and it was about as stable as my Firebirds . What! they only made one run of CE Spiders? Although Pro-line Spiders were actually pretty good. My point, CE plastic was gone. Innova had become a collectors brand. No offense but I'm not paying that price on Ebay for plastic. From year to year plastics and run changes have varied. I found it very frustrating not having access to disc that would replace the ones that I lost or beat too much. I like to buy disc from the club that support my club at a price that doesn't break my wallet. With the Comet being my all time favorite (Can't play a round with out it) disc, I decided to try more Discraft drivers and mids. After experimenting with a few different molds I found the set up that is right for me. It is my belief that I can replace every disc in my bag and they will fly very, very close to the way I remember. Discraft plastic is extremely durable; I find that it is grippy and it flies consistent for me. I'm just a disc golfer, not a disc collector. Innova seems to be for collectors, ex. San Marino Rocs, '01 CE Rocs, any CE disc for that matter. Discraft just seems to be the best choice for me.

as everyone else has pretty much stated already, they started with what they did because it was available. for me it was an innova 3 disc set, with an eagle, a shark and an aviar. as my downward spiral into the bottomless pit of disc golf accelerated, i like many became a disc slut. i have thrown just about everything atleast a few times and love trying out something new. currently, my bag is mostly gateway. i love the element and element-x. i carry 3 wizards and i also carry a blaze and a sabre for when the mood feels right. i prefer gateway because of S plastic. plain and simple i like the feel and the durability. gateway drivers and i do not agree, they are too small rimmed for my ape hands, so i throw innova drivers, mainly valks. i also carry a cheetah for rollers. i don't have a lot of experience with multiple runs/colors of innova so i can't comnment on that, however i have experienced great consistency with gateway. as for discraft, i have carried a stratus for a few rounds as well as a predator and a buzz. all good discs in my eyes.

long story short /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif i mainly throw gateway because i love s plastic, but i have no strict allegiences...

I started out preferring Discraft because I played Ultimate for years before I found disc golf and the Ultrastar is what we generally played with. When I transitioned to disc golf and learned the history, and then tried out Aviars, Valkyries, etc. -- I saw the light regarding Innova products.

I like Innova because it pretty much was the driving force behind all 21st century plastic. I used to carry Z Comets, but they are hard to find. I do still carry 2 discs made by Discraft (the Buzzz and the Glide), but the JK Aviar is my go-to disc for putts and approaches 250 feet and in, and the Orc is my go-to disc for anything requiring maximum distance. I also carry a Monster in case I run into 100 mph headwinds, and Champion Sidewinders, Champion Valkyries and a Champion Stingray.

Considering I really got serious about this whole DG thing a year ago, I claim no allegiance. My bag is pretty evenly split between Discraft and Innova (other brands are not as readily available to me). While the cost of CE will probably make me gravitate toward Discraft in the future, I will always have a T-bird and an Aviar in the bag.

WOW.

I am glad to read other's opinions on why they like X or Y. It seems that on other posts people get fairly hostile towards different brands, but that there isn't much foundation to the whole thing. To me the poll shows a proportion that is about equal to availibilty.

One point that I wanted to make sure came up is that I personally am glad there are multiple manufacturers. Given a choice between two identical discs, one Innova and one Brand Y I try to choose Brand Y. Nothing against Innova, but I think that keeping multiple brands healthy is really important. I don't think we would have superdurable plastic or ultra high speed drivers had Discraft, Millenium, and Gateway not been around pushing the envelope. With DGA and Wham-O bringing some nice stuff to the table, the phrase Taco'ed disc may soon be a forgotten.

Next innovation-> Tiny homing devices in the plastic to help you find your disc.

Gateway-
Pro- Like ordering directly from their website and their service. People generally don't have anything bad to say about it except really overstable at first. People seem to like their s, cheap plastic alot, and people also have good things to say about their glow plastic.
Con- Not seen in stores. Not big variety. No idea, but do they not offer tiedye? That'd be a big con depending on one's mood.

Millenium- This is an Innova Company right?
Pro- The marvelous JLS. Never had a discs that has felt nicer throwing. (I like the plastic and its stable)
Con- Not alot of options. Why buy it when you can buy Innova?

Discraft
Pro- They're the underdog, gotta root for the underdog. (Wish i had more here but I don't. Not going to stop me from liking them or buying from them though.) Oh ya, DGLO. And appearently they have a plant here in MI?
Cons- Eep, rating system... Less people throw it so you don't here as much about their discs. I can tell you what almost every Innova driver is like. I know about Discrafts newer stuff, like buzz, flash, crush from talk. And I found that cyclones and XLs are pretty stable due to recent research. And of course Stratus is your understable disc. But X-clone, x2, x-press, whole bunch of others have no clue about those. I can look at a display of Innova discs and I know which discs I want or don't want because I know about them. I look at a Discraft shelf, and I am intrigued, but not going to buy a disc right there. Raised letters on rim is a big no no, I hope they have stopped that. Not as commonly found in stores. Don't buy it directly from company online.

Innova-
Pro- Know all about their discs. Big names use it. Rating system. Dave Dunipace. 4 out of 5 stores that I've been to for golf discs have Innova exclusively (including millenium at duhnams). Duhnams, Sports Authority, MC Sports, and two local party stores. One party store in Northern MI had discraft. Teebirds stick out in my mind as the best stable long distance disc. DX plastic seems to be an appreciated cheap plastic where pro-d doesn't really seem to be.

Cons- People say they like 8x KC plastic for discs. I can't buy 8x KC plastic except Ebay, and I'm not buying a disc from Ebay. Same thing goes for that marvelous CE/candy plastic. They aren't the underdog. You don't buy discs from them directly.

People understand Innova best and they got the variety. Discraft is THE underdog that needs some exploration, but not in the x plastic if its going to have raised letters and I tend to shy away from the Z and champion plastic. I think my loyalties might end up with Gateway (I tend to go with the third party canidate). It just seems like a cool company for disc golf and I like the posters on here that like gateway. If the wizards, elements, and that really straight flying driver...the sabre or spirit? turn out to work well. I'll probably have a thing for Gateway.

Jack,
We have Tye dye, in fact if you come down to St Louis you can dye your own discs.
If you have enough Time you can come to the factory and snips some runners, weigh some discs and box up a few hundred, Take em back to the shop and even hotstamp them.
Its kinda like the Tom sawyer thing helping me paint the fence . :D

If you seriously are looking for someone to help you one day I would gladly volunteer to see the process of a disc being made. Would be really cool to see a disc go through the process and be able to say I am throwing a disc "I made". You can get the free labor and I can get the experience of seeing discs manufactured. True disc nut here... can't get enough.

I have only been playing for a couple of years now, I used light (150-160g) innova when I started. I had no real complaints when I threw it, but I was a starter and knew nothing about the "game". Three months into playing the game met Eric McCabe and its been max weight discraft ever since. I think Discraft just makes sense. One earlier post talked about the stamps, I totally agree, I like my disc somewhat plain, and if not I like to dye my own, hard to do with a full sized foil stamp (that don't come off too easy). I also think with Innova its easier to get lost. With so many Innova supporters, sometimes it feels like you are out there with yourself playing with discs noones ever heard of lol. But all in all I think all disc company's are doing a great job of help promoting the sport and giving us players the tools to complete the job.

My motto is: Find what I like (brand, color, run), and hoard them!

So true !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

even it is just 2 or 3 extra, It's nice to have some backups that you bought at the same time, so hopefully they will perform the same.

I just find what I like and works for me, by trying a great deal of differnet brands and plastic. I just slowly leaned more to Innova in my bag right now, with a few Z discs and a gateway or 2. I really just need My Banshee's, Orc's and Soft Rhyno and maybe a beast for turnover shots, I carry more than I need though
