So TDs, Is it worth it?
What does 1/4 page ad. cost these days?

We're stepping up to an A-tier for the first time ever, and we need to get about 100 people to make the numbers work. Will I get a significant increase in out-of-town turnout if I place an ad in DGWN? Or am I better off passing out flyers at every conceivable tourney within 500 miles?

I'm guessing The Tumbleweed Open in April.
$700 pro purse last year.... might be hard out in Arizona to pull off a supertour. You'll have to get a Primo date.

1st week in April is PDGA match play in Cali... everyone out west will be at that.

2nd week of April is Melbourne 'NT'.

3rd week of April is Bowling Green 'NT'. out east, but nothing really going on out west. This would be a good weekend.

After a couple years of building the event up you could move it to the weekend right after 'The Memorial' which is the same weekend as world doubles, but that tourney is sorta dying since it's held sorta far from civilization on the surface of the moon.

(Not really, but if you've been there you know what I'm talking about. Not knocking the tournament, I'd go just to play the fun courses and hang around with John, but it's tough to enough players to show up to make it the 'event' that it once was.)

Anyway.... in a roundabout way... I'm sure an ad with DGWN would increase your turnout. You'll need to draw a bunch of Cali guys... you might better spend your money handing out flyers at Cali events. These folks will be your main player pool... and pheonix of course... maybe some vegas folks.

Yeah, the Tumbleweed.

Ideally the week before or after the Memorial would be our best shot, but that's not going to happen.

We don't have any really nice courses in town, so we're doing it on a golf course. Unfortunately winter & spring is prime time for golf in Az so greens fees are through the roof. We can only get the fees down to a reasonable rate between Memorial day and Labor day. We have June 4-5 this year, so it won't really work out for you touring guys; it's between Beaver State and KCWO, and it's a bit out of the way, and you can do Colorado instead... unless I can convince you that it'll be a much much better tournament.

I really need to draw from SoCal, Vegas, NM, and Az.

Another big problem on that weekend is going to be the 'Great Northwest Open' in Oregon. Feldberg is co-TDing. It will be a big $$ B-tier and I'm sure that Dave will be lobbying hard to get all the Cali-players to come to it.

I think you are going to have a tough time drawing the palyers.
Sorry for the gloomy news... but better to know now than find out on tourney day.

Are members allowed to advertise their businesses here on the message boards?
The season is approaching and TD's are going to need to start getting orders in for T-Shirts/Hats, etc. By chance...ha ha, I happen to own an advertising business. To all TD's ordering merchandise I will give Free Shipping, No Set-Up/Art Charge (embroidered or screenprint) and No Sales Tax to those ordering outside of Oklahoma. The turn around time is 2-4 weeks, depending on location. This offer also extends to those here who own their own businesses. If you are interested please send me a PM and I will give you a call, or fax to you a product/price list.

Naturally, it's almost impossible to say which is most efficinet w/o all the costs, but the SIZE of a flyer is quite a bit larger. Larger = more room to tell what a special [e.g. on Bolf course] opportunity it will be. Also, room right there for the entry form, so that avoids a step for those without a computer. those types will see it here, anyways.

...on the other hand, great prestige in DGWN. Instant credibility, desireability.

...trying to relate thinking of someone whom might not otherwise make the trip, not as someone having to choose amongst several options.
