With the exception of 210 addresses (from zip 97333-3969 through 98390-8656) the Winter 2005 issue of DGWN was mailed via third class mail from Oklahoma City on Tuesday, January 18. Most issues arrive in 10 to 17 days. However, some may take as long as 24 days. Therefore, if you have not received your issue by February 11 (Feb 14 for the 210 mentioned above), please contact either DGWN or the PDGA to get a replacement issue sent. If you have moved and left a change of address with the post office (but didn't let the PDGA know in time for this mailing), allow another 3 days. If you moved and didn't leave a change of address and didn't notify the PDGA of your new address, obviously your issue will not be delivered! If this is your situation, please contact the PDGA.

FYI: This is the fourth and final issue of the 2004 membership year.

I'm biased of course, but I think it's a very good to excellent issue. The table of contents reads: upshots, ontour, what's up with women, health matters, carrie berlogar interview, john notenboom, green pages, year in review, journey to japan, derek robins interview, women's nationals, trancontinental flights, calendar, u.s. disc golf championship, pdga pages, box scores. parting shots.

Enjoy!

When you join the PDGA, do you get a DGWN subscription or just the one issue? I joined in Oct./Nov. of '04 and got issue #70 with my membership packet - is that all I'm getting?

it would be nice if it was a monthly publication though...
or if i just ever got the ones i was supposed to :D

Jan 28 2005, 01:58 AM
It would be difficult for them to get in all of the tournament results and have so many interviews each month. The magazine would be a lot smaller.

Does anyone else think it's a little mean to list the names of the golfers with the worst score on each hole in "The good, the bad and the average" at the end of the USDGC article?

There were a couple of board posters on there. Hysell? Mace? Does it bother y'all?

ck34
Jan 28 2005, 01:07 PM
Rick probably feels the worst score on a hole isn't picking on anybody since he holds the record with a 21 at USDGC.

I see your point, but competitors should realize the high profile of the event. They should realize they are playing against the most elite players the sport has to offer, on the highest SSA course ever created. If they can't handle the notoriety, then maybe the qualifying process (specifically, the state coordinator giving out an entry to whomever he/she chooses) may need to be addressed.

A possible benefit of spiking out the high scores would be to indicate issues with the course design. If the USDGC is regarded as the best course in the world, it shouldn't have competitors (again, supposedly the best in the world) taking thirteen, fourteen, twenty-one, etc. on a hole, imo.

Jan 28 2005, 04:28 PM

I played once in florida during the winter it was 80 and sunny a week later I played here there was a over a foot of snow so we had to tie ribbons on our discs. The temp was close to zero i would rather play in sunny 80 degrees then crappy 0 and snowy.

i found out by accident when i placed my ice bowl order and asked rick if the results made this issue as they should have been in the last issue.... he said yes they were there and said it was a pretty good out of state turnout, then said oops, looks like the results got mixed up with the other event....

but maybe they'll be right by the '05 monsoon madness and they can run both years results together  :D

Great issue, congrats to all involved. Lynne Warren's articles were especially well written and made me feel proud to be a disc golfer when showing the magazine to those less involved with the sport. I have been a bit insensitive in my criticism of DGWN in the past, but to Lynne's credit she has obviously taken it upon herself to strive for excellence in her journalism and it has defintely reached a professional level. It was great that she included details such as her own educational background and referenced materials from which the info was extracted. This defintely gives the information greater credability and establishes her as an expert. Thanks for going above and beyond and helping to elevate the public image and professionalism of our sport.
