Today at play it again sports, I picked up an old looking aviar putter. The stamp is not like the new stamps, and the disc was made in San Marino, CA instead of Rancho Cucamonga. Any ideas on it's origins or age?

Please describe the stamp as ALL Aviars have the San Marino imprint on the bottom. There is no such thing as a Rancho Cucamonga Aviar.

Mr. Zoonker, the city designation indicates where Innova was located when the physical disc mold was made, not where the disc itself was made.

As Tafe indicated, to this point, all Aviars have the "San Marino" imprint regardless of where they were actually made, so that doesn't really give any indication of the possible age. The hotstamp may provide a clue, though.

FWIW, the oldest Aviar stamp I'm aware of, which may have been the original stamp, is the Ring stamp, which consists of six concentric rings, and bears the legend "The Leading Edge in Flying Disc Technology" "For Disc Sports by Innova�." I bought my first Aviar in 1986, and it had that stamp. Not sure how long that stamp was used, though; Flynvegas or another collector might know.

Most of those Aviars were light weight. The box they came in has a picture of the Innova gang, Dave, Tim, ....... Some of the older Aviar stamps I'm aware of is the Orbitors Odyssey and grid stamp. The '85 Worlds were still Pat. Pending and very brittle, all of mine split.

I would like to see some of those older stamps (on Aviars, and other discs!). Got any links, or feel like posting some?

If it has the Ring stamp, it's an older disck but it's hard to say how old.

As I said, the hotstamp (along with the pat. #) appeared on the Aviar I bought in 1986. Don't know when the stamp was retired, though I seem to recall seeing it on a few new DX Aviars at the Chapel Hill PIAS in 2001 or 2002.

That font is really cool

Discwares had a really cool multy color stamp of an old bi-plane, with Aviar on it. They went out of businees in late 80's early 90's.

I have one of those "OLD School" Aviar with the rings stamp. Im wondering if most of those were in really light weights because mine is a 150g. Anyone seen anything heavier?

I've seen lighter (105g, 119g; probably premies) but not heavier. I seem to recall a post by Dave D. saying that the target weight was 150.
