The best course in Miami is about 300 miles north west in Brooksville. It's called the Gran Canyon DGC. Obviously, I'm being a smart *** but if you ever get a chance its INCREDIBLE!!!!!

I was in Miami for Am Worlds 2002 and didn't think much of Kendall Indian Hammocks Park.
I prefer and highly recommend Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. When you imagine what a Florida disc golf course should look like, this is it. The course plays around several beautiful water hazards with palm trees dotting the landscape. The front half of the course plays through a somewhat wooded area, but the rough is not as "man-eating" as at Kendall. The back nine holes are almost completely open but with many water hazards. Unlike most Florida disc golf courses, Amelia actually features some elevation changes which is a refreshing change of pace. Playing along the water hazards and roads, OB comes into play on just about every single hole and with the often gusty winds, shooting under par is not as easy as it looks.

you should have talked to me at team rusicka....i could have filled you in :p
kendall is not as "unfriendly" (to paraphrase jeff) in the wintertime as the heavy vines in the woods are dead and don't get in the way much....yes kendall is flat but (IF and it's a big if)the baskets are in the "c" positions the course will be challenging (tourney record from the pro pads in c position is only 6 down by climo)
there will be a tournament there in the middle of january so the baskets should be in the c positions....there is also another 18 hole course at the same park which is more wooded and alot more walking between holes but if you are there already you might as well play it also.....
if you want more info or local contact phone numbers to meet up with people to play with let me know....
amelia has changed designs a few times in the past couple of years as the skate park vanished and more area opened up and it is definately also worth your time if you have it

good thing is either way is all hiway driving(more like 30-40 minutes with no traffic from south beach)if you are REALLY getting up early so you could go to kendall and get back as you would be going against traffic in both directions.....BUT and this is a huge consideration.......
traffic is bad and there is only one way in or out of the port area.....
if it was me....even as i much as i like disc golf...i wouldn't chance it...
there is a nice park next to the port area that you could throw disc at as an object course and it has great views of the city, and the port(you might even try to throw a disc you don't want at the cruise ship you'll be on as it sits about 200 yards from the park's eastern corner) :D
you really need more time to get to the courses...maybe hit them after the cruise...
happy holidays
keith
You can't get a round in and be back in South Beach by, say noon?

on a weekday it is iffy to risk it.....
I COULD because i know back ways to travel if there is an accident or traffic, etc....
someone going off of mapquest would be screwed if they closed down a road they were on...
i almost missed my flight back from la once because of the angels baseball game and they had a couple of accidents on the hiway....if i knew back ways to lax i MIGHT have been ok...
i warning him out of courtesy because i'm pretty sure he and his wife would not be thrilled if he missed the cruise to play disc golf....cuz when they say on board by 2 they mean it :D

I play Kendall every year at the end of December and the baskets have always been in the "c". I've never played the course in any other lay-out and it's certainly worth playing.
There are 2 courses there and the one that Keith got installed for am worlds was missing a basket the last couple of years -- and I think I'm the only golfer in captivity that likes the course. Dunno -- if you go early in the morning before a soccer game breaks out it's worth playing -- I like the throws in the back along the pipeline (or whatever's buried there) because they seem so easy -- "just throw it straight", but are usually a disaster for someone.
Keith's right about the traffic and the directions. Seems simple enough on paper, but without local knowledge I would never risk leaving South Beach. We've spent several hours making the 35 minute drive from Key Biscayne more than twice.
The times that we've played Amelia it was very difficult to follow.
