This question occured to me after Dave M's comment about the Illusion and Discwing QuarterK being similar. I went to the GDS website to have a look at the Illusion.

Why do all disc manufacturers/distributers always display their photos of discs from the top down?
I mean, it's not like we don't know that it's going to be round!!
The interesting bit, from a flight perspective, is the profile, but no one ever seems to show this!

Are we all really so shallow that we buy discs based on the pretty stamp?

Well that, and the claim that it's the newest, latest, greatest, ultra, super-long, hyper, double-plus, most incredible, fastest, maximum distance driver, with incredible glide, and ideal fade on the market right now... Until next month.

For the discs that are out there check out golfdisc.dk (http://golfdisc.dk/eng-index.html)
They have profiles and measurements for Discraft, Innova, and Millenium.

Gateway used to have side profiles in their DGWN ads. I thought I heard David say that he was going to do that again sometime, but you'd have to ask him.

Holy crap these profile views are sweet. I have about 20 different profile views up right now, just comparing the shapes of the discs, its cool. Thanks for the link to that site.

Cool website! I'd like to see a measurement of a disc's inner rim depth...and Gateway's lineup/profiles as well.

I have a few illusions, and from what I've looked at, and from what I've seen of the 1/4 K they aren't that far off from each other.

and that is a cool site btw.

Does the Illusion have the "bullet" profile then, as opposed to the usual "talon"?
That is the one thing that is markedly different to anything else I seen on the market, and the predominant factor in the QK's extra distance as far as I can tell.

BTW, thanks for the website link, good stuff!

If you're refering to the rounded inner wall that the QK features...no the Illusion doesn't have that feature. Thats probably the only thing I noticed that was different about it compared to an Illusion.

No, I'm referring to the convex lower edge of the rim, as opposed to the traditional concave design.

That probaly explains why the illusion is quite overstable and the QK is flippy. I really don't understand how people think its practically the same disc.

Thats what I was refering to as well...you worded it better though. I gave some wacky description.

That's what happens if you spend too much time with those hippies ;)
