It is not clear to me whether ams over 40 can play in am masters if their rating is higher than 915. My initial thought after reading the guidelines was that all Ams rated above 915 are required to play MA1 regardless of age, but I have also heard (from Terry Calhoun) that masters can play MM1 even with ratings over 915.
The ratings guidelines chart says (MA1) is required for all with a rating of 915+, but also says that players with any rating (and over 40) can play MM1. So is MA1 required or MM1 allowed?
Further, the new guidelines for Pros playing amateur state that Pro Masters may only play MM1 if their rating is less than 915.
Is there some reason for letting players with Am status play in MM1 even if there rating is more than 915, but not letting players with Pro status play MM1 if their rating is more than 915?
Is Terry correct?
What division they chose to play is another topic, and most am masters I know who have a high enough rating do chose to play MA1. My question is just whether they are allowed to play MM1 if rated over 915+, not whether they "should" play MA1.
Thanks

Amatuers who are 40+ can play in MM1 no matter what their rating is. Pros who wish to play in MM1 must be 40+ and have a rating less than 915.

Anyone over 40 with any rating can play Adv. Masters if they are of age and are amateurs.
The 915 mark refers to Pros that can play AM this coming year. For a pro to play Adv. Masters they must be under 915.

You can play Masters when you are 39, except for people with one particular birthday.

To clarify Rhett's statement, you can play Masters if you are 39 on January 1, unless your birthday is on January 1. Those people can't play Masters until they turn 40.
Also, any amateur that is of the proper age can play in the Advanced Masters division. Pros who have ratings of 915 or above cannot play in MM1.

So If reach 39 before Jan 1 you can play Masters, but if you turn 39 on Jan 1 or later, you have to wait.

Skill level ceilings on WWCC amateur divisions pretty much certifies the fact that we have no amateur divisions...
....and that move up move up move out is still in full effect...

I thought the move up, move up, move out was the case of a player being forced up before by peer pressure before they were competitive in the upper divisions. Allowing a method for them to play against players of equal skill should kill the old sequence.

What I mean by that Gary is that it puts all of the top WWCC amateur divisions in the context of Professional divisions according to skill. Top Amateur divisions should not have a skill level ceiling otherwise they are just stepping stones for Pro divisions. Further blurring a line which hardly exists already...

I missed the memo that listed a ceiling for top amateur players.

OK, pros playing in amateur divisions. Seems pretty clear to me that this is in essense putting ceilings on these divisions.
It's not like pros haven't been playing in them all along anyway...

there is absolutely no need for an AM masters div. Play int. or adv., why is it necessary to have a redundant div. when the divisions are rating protected..

YOU guys can have my plastic!! but seriously , with rating protected divisions does it really make sense to have multiple divisions of equally rated players.I personally feel larger divisions are much more attractive!!
On a side note: I enjoy playing with all you more established golfers (masters), you guys have a better appreciation for what the game is all about!!

But we are old and slow and like to complain about aching joints and kids and mortgages. It's more like a club.

alot of us younger guys are very similar in so many ways!! the character in the masters div. speaks for it self!! a couple of my favorite players to play with are Dale H, and Larry T. I strongly believe the appreciation of the game in the masters level would really benefit the rest of the divisions!! just my opinion!! under 7 years and counting!!

7 years 'til what ?
Just leave us alone, there aren't enough of us to change the size of any other division very much we would split up almost equally amongst the Rec, Int, and Adv fields. What difference would it make to have 1-3 more players in a 20-40 person field ?
It makes a difference to us, or we would already be playing there. We certainly don't play in the Adv Master field for the big payouts or the increased chance of cashing. Most of the players in the field would stand a better chance of cashing in the other fields. There must be some other reason we all play in the age protected but small field.

under 7 for masters for me!! I know my opinion will not change this issue. I am just voicing my opinion about the matter. I now know where you stand and will leave this issue as is. I as an adv. player can appreciate the game as i see from the masters divisions. My main point and intention is improving the game for which we enjoy so much!! thanks for taking time to respond and i appreciate what you do for disc golf, keep up the good work!!
