John,

Do you know when you guys are planning on doing your Ice Bowl? I know typically you do it the first week in February, while we do the Berzerkeley Best Pairs Bash Ice Bowl on Super Bowl weekend. This year, that happens to be the same weekend, with the Super Bowl falling on the weekend of February 5th and 6th. Let me know what your plans are.

I saw the flyer posted today at Dela. It said the 5th. Too bad, I liked playing both of those last year. Now I have to pick one.

Yes I beleive that is correct.. The IceBowl is the 5th.

With all respect. I don't know that the TD for that event checks NorCal / PDGA calenders when planning that event as winter is usually so slow. Plus it's a traditional weekend.

On the flip, that event is usually almost all local players, and if I am not mistaken has drawn very few open players the last few years. (ehem) I think the price got a little high relative to the event? Which priced even more players out last year..... which is to say, and I could be wrong, but I think when you break a certian price for entry fee's. say $25, $30 bucks, you are not going to get tour players in a non sanctioned event, unless you have some stellar players package involved, or guranteed 100% or better payout. If I'm not mistaken? the IceBowl went up to $50 last year ? And has dropped to $40 this year?

I say that because tour players will still go to there less than favortie events if there are points involved, which is not the case here.

I'm not saying anyone has to / or should do this, but I would guess they'll have a better trun out if they do.

It very fun event. The second year I played we actually had snow flurries on Top of the World...how kewl is that ?

I have played all of them, except one year I had to DNF do to injury, and last year I joined the holdouts.

I would not expect it to move dates.

I would also guess that the 2 will not impact each other too much?

You either support the Icebowl or you don't.....
You like Berkely Pairs or you don't ...

Speaking of which.
Have ya'll ever thought of splitting the open and Am dates for that event?

why split the pros and ams?
It's not that big of an event.

Thanks. And thanks to all that played.

I have to appologize for the bit of chaos, and some of the grouping. I tried to put people out in an order that would move them through the course, without having to walk a long way to start.

Because when the Ams out number the Pors 3 or 4 to 1 it's whole different ball game. Berkeley has to be big enough, if my litttle informal thing was.

Let me put it this way. I could have done all of the scoring, hole assignments, and payout for the Pros in my head. The Ams, by sheer number, require a lot more work, preperation and tracking. Paper pencils and so on.....

So again I have to apologize to you guys for not being more propared.

*Next year, I will split the weekends, or days as I can not play and manage that many players well.

We have a saying in Santa Cruz. "it's difficult to TD and play in the same event, and do either job justice"

Keep coming out, it was really fun.

I was very happy to tie for first and send my doubles partner home with a turkey in the split. He made some great shots.

Hopefully we'll have conditions more condusive to course records next year.
And we have set precedence for a Masters Division!

I still don't get it.
I dought we'll get any more pros out there if it were split weekends.
