I think the best thing for you to do would be to play a round (or more) with someone who knows the game.
There are many informative websites about discgolf, especially this one (PDGA.com).
Good luck!

The Stokely book would help you. Also, practice your putting instead of just playing rounds. This is something most people(including myself) don't do often enough.

Yeah what he said
PUTT PUTT PUTT and PUTT some more. You wont believe how many strokes a good 25-30ft putt will shave off your game. I would say during my second round yesterday it saved me about 5 strokes. 5 strokes just by making putts from 25 ft.
I have a Chainstar at my house and didnt practice putting AT ALL this summer while i was playing tournaments. Now that i can play golf cuz i work late and it gets dark early i have been going home for the past month or so and putting like 200 putts a day from 20-30 ft and it has helped my game sooo much. I am going to continue this all winter and for the rest of my Disc Golf career. I would say try and putt 1000 putts a week from about 20-30 ft. That will SHAVE the most strokes off your game out of anything :D

Having a basket is great ... every serious player should have one. PUTT! I'm in the process of submitting a proposal to our town rec. department to have two [practice] baskets installed in every park in Carbondale, CO! We may be getting a new town DG course installed too!
I would also recommend Scott Stokely's videos. A little bit of the information is dated, but most of the throwing technique stuff is very helpful. I like to refer to it as a visual reference when my game gets in a slump ... helps me see what I might be doing wrong.
I also like the competition DVD's that are available. The 03 USDGC DVD is a lot of fun to watch on rainy days ... especially the final sudden death overtime round ... holly sh@t! 10 holes of sudden death ... 10 tied birdie holes ... the stress alone would have killed me. Lot's of fun to watch.

You can Practice and Putt all you want, but if you don't have good technique on both it will be counter productive. Read up on the X-Step, either on this board or get Stokely's book, his book is very good, it helps with putting and grips too...
Second buy about 5-10 of a putter, midrange, and driver that feels good in your hand and go out to a field/park. Pick a tree or goal post and throw all 5 discs at it, then repeat. Stick with these discs till you are very confident in your technique then you can start to try different discs, and really develop your style of play.
If you have been playing on and off for 4 years you problaby have a great idea of what discs you like so just get more and go out to the field. You will be amazed what a difference it makes.
Good Luck,
Matt
