A bit to far for me.... :(

Nov 14 2004, 08:53 AM
why did the date change?
jparmley
Nov 14 2004, 10:14 PM
Best open "available" date according to the current PDGA schedule....can you not make it CF? Oh yeah....the City of Conroe built a new box on number one at McDade made from materials Conroe already had (aka FREE). I encourage everyone to go check it out and give feedback on the PDGA or the HFDS websites. If most people like it, Conroe will build new boxes on every hole before the tourney. Let us know how you like them.
cgflesner
Nov 14 2004, 10:18 PM
how long are they?
jparmley
Nov 14 2004, 10:52 PM
Dimensions: 4 ft wide at the front of box, aprx 8-9 ft long,....back of box is about 7 ft wide....so the entire box flares out towards the back. According to Conroe, they're made of a packed wood chip material surrounded with a wood border to help prevent errosion. I have not personally seen the final product...I'm stuck here in Austin with work. Like I said, we need feedback from players of all skill levels to make a descision on wheather or not to proceed with the rest of the course.
After having the Saturday mini, we had several people express there dislike of the new tee box. We are going back to the city of Conroe for either conrete or matted tee boxes.
cgflesner
Nov 16 2004, 01:34 PM
they have to be better than the origonall box where you had to step over that ditch.
I would go to cement, and an elevated box.
what ever yall do i would recomend against making the boxes to short where you have to step up onto them like at Veterans. I would make them at least 8.5 to 9 feet long.
Cement is the way to go. But Conroe wants us to pay for half.
cgflesner
Nov 16 2004, 03:41 PM
I thought that conroe funded money for the course for such things.
You think they would, but they have a budget to maintain.
suemac
Nov 17 2004, 12:39 PM
Ask the guys at Victoria how they defrayed the cost of installing their boxes. I'm sure their budget constraints were very similar to Conroe.
We asked Conroe for cement tee pads and they asked us to test the current tee box. Jon is currently sending them a proposal to install cement boxes. Hopefully the tournament in January will push them a little. We will see their response.
cgflesner
Nov 17 2004, 02:27 PM
too bad that the locals are some whiners or you could use the course fund to start the funding of the pads because cement is expensive.
ching_lizard
Nov 17 2004, 10:25 PM
You might try asking HFDS for some help too Wyatt...they might figure out a way to help raise some funds for it.
I hope we can come up with something. Concrete wold be sweet.

On the LSDGA calender there is a Woodlands tourney the week after the Northside Freeze. Is it still going to be played that soon after since it is just down the 'street'? If so, it sounds like I might have to spend two weekends with the out..I mean in-laws. :D
Is there any info out on the Woodlands tourney yet?
jparmley
Nov 19 2004, 02:33 AM
I'm stoked for the FREEZE baby!......Let's get the grass roots going and beat the C'Roe Open tournout!!!!
The Woodlands tournament is not being ran by us. The Woodlands is running it.
cgflesner
Nov 19 2004, 09:33 AM
are you kidding.
is it going to be sanctioned.
what a bunch of pansies.
The woodlands rec department decided it was not hard to run a tournment, so they are going to do it themselves. I even offered to help out and try and make it a good tournment, but I guess they don't want any help.
I don't know if they have it sanctioned. They have tried a couple times to put on a tournment, to no avail. We will see what happens this time. :p

Dec 02 2004, 12:32 AM
No one will show up to a tournament when the City is running it and they're taking 30% of all entries...plus, if you cash, they'll be kind enough to send you and the IRS a 1099 ! LOL Robbie ;)
cgflesner
Dec 02 2004, 01:24 PM
realy, thats the first i have heard of that.
we should start a pool, over or under five players.
No, No..you're looking at it all wrong...
Show up and you have a guaranteed spot in the top 5!! :D
...of course you would still be out of the cash

i am planning on attending, along with a buddy and my little brother, but i dont know for sure if i can come until january. it will also depend on the weather since i'll be driving 200 miles.
we're going out there to mcdade this afternoon since i'm in town for christmas. what is an average ma1, ma2, and ma3 round out there so i know what division is appropriate for us?

I'm a proud Graduate of CHS (go Tigers), my in-laws live in The Woodlands, and I really need some revenge on that course after its inaugeral tournament.
This time, I'm not going to spend 8 hours and $$$ at Pappa's on the lake the night before. Ok, actually I probably will.
Either way, I'm there.

Dec 23 2004, 02:46 PM
I think that 54 to 49 would be the average advanced scores.
I believe that 46 won the last couple of mini's in the open division.

Hey Ladies, this is a great course for the girls. I hope to see some of you down here next month. At least it won't be too hot! And I don't think we have to worry about snow again for decades, so please come down for a great day of golf!
And cfles, why don't you just shut your pie-hole about Houston and it's golfers. You've never been a part of golf in South Woodlands, so why do we bother you, a pro, so much? Why do they get under your skin in such a big way?
Just curious.
Happy New Year to ya!

Dec 27 2004, 04:21 PM
First of all mind your own business.
I was just joking around with Matt, and if I want your opinion I will ask for it. Or I will try to wake you from your stumbling around drunk pathetic self.
And I have never been apart of disk golf south of the Woodlands because there is not much golf south of the Woodlands. There are some great courses but no organization, and a bunch of drunks who are way too sensitive.
:p
suemac
Dec 28 2004, 01:15 AM
You know it's funny, the reason I reacted and posted my comment was due to the way I felt after I read your recent posts. Honestly, Mr. Sensitive, I can't recall anyting I've ever read of yours that wasn't littered with complaints, negative comments and general attacks on someone or something.
If you could find it in your heart (if you have one) to just remember..........................
This is just a discussion board, and I was just pointing out the obvious. Hey, we appreciate you staying out of Houston, that way, we don't have to show you the way back to the suburbs. We'll just hand you your hat, and burp in your face in the process. My suggestion is that you examine the prevailing messages in your past posts and lighten up! :p

Dec 28 2004, 07:58 PM
Now Sue, tell us what you really want to say, and don't go editing.
You are right in that I also have never read anything positive from Cfles. Where I grew up we had a name for somebody like him and after awhile of his 'whaa, whaaing' he would be takin' out behind the barn to the woodshed for a good ol'home grown whipping. :o
I'm guessing he didn't grow up with good manners.
I am looking forward to play!! and kick mr. cooper [*****]. ha ha, I missed going there last year because I got married on that day! grrrr... I did went into disctitle.com and its not ready to take regist and payment yet?.
suemac
Dec 28 2004, 08:46 PM
It's obvious he still hasn't grown up! Mind my own business? NOT! Not here, not now. If you want to keep something "private", make use of the PM feature, etc.
No, what we have here is a spoiled little boy, and cfles, I did have one question that I wanted to ask, but never had the chance when you complained about the Farmdango.
WHAT IF YOU HADN'T CASHED? WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE HAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEN? I'M SURE THAT YOU COULD HAVE FOUND SOMETHING........"THERE WEREN'T FLUSHING TOILETS OR ROOM SERVICE"
NO, CHRIS, ONCE AGAIN, LIGHTEN UP!
As one who's been around the block a time or two, life is just too short to get so ruffled about soch trivial things. I think that's why most of us play this game. So we can stop and enjoy the simple things in life, right?

I didn't party in my usual style that weekend. So you must be recalling stories of party weekends gone by. And as far as hanging around with you guys.............most all of you are all babies, who I don't really know. I was the outsider, a visitor from the Ghetto. ;) And I did hang out with our team. I did visit my friends from out of town, as events like that are the only times I might get to see them.
As for my tent, I'm a big girl and I can handle my own.

I don't think the McDade Park course in Conroe is an easy course. It doesn't have incredibly long holes or pro par fours but there's a bunch of tough threes out there. There's a lot of deuces to be had, but a bogey-free round can be elusive. Any round in the 40s there is a good score, imo.

I thought it was a great tourney (fun wise), sure the tee-boxes could have been a little better, but the only problem I had on them was hole 15 where I located my plant foot sideways to close to the board marking the t-box and thus could not rotate my foot with my throw, causing a very quick release and some pain in my knee. But that could have just been my fault for trying to take every inch of that box? But as always, it's nice to get out to a park on pretty land, even if it won't necessarily challenge every aspect of your golf game (although you couldn't tell by my first round). Congrats to Joe Hague for some solid shooting, and to Matt for pulling out the victory after being 3 strokes back from Robbie with 9 holes to go. Also, congratulations to Robbie Bratten (who shot his highest rated round ever), who continues to elevate his golf game and with a little more time will be a force to be reckoned with in the Open ranks.
Organizers, there seems to be a discrepancy between the payout amount listed and payout amount received, please send me an e-mail @

Aren't propagators players over 800 and you have to have 10 of them? If so, 13 qualify (not counting the 2 DNS's).
That is what I thought as well Tony... It looks like the information was put in correctly, so I guess the PDGA would have to tell us.
"Mikey was actually referring to the MacGregor Park course,"
How did you get that information from that post Lung?
Give me a break on criticizing this great C-tier - what did you expect when you came over an A-tier?
Nice payout (100% + it appears), nice course, not too much waiting etc - be specific if you are going to be nasty. (Yes, the tee boxes need some work I'm talking about the rest of your post)
If you did not like the course, you could have asked someone about it before coming over. I would have described it to you as I am sure many others would.

From the Rating info on the site, my info is correct. I wonder if maybe they put the MA2 and MA3 in as separate layouts, which would confuse the issue for the computer, but then be straightened out by the Ratings Committee?
All in all, a good event. The course is pretty straightforward, a little short in places, but then I didn't birdie those holes. :o The only bad tee I noticed was #17. Righties run uphill and Lefties run downhill. Otherwise, I had and heard no other complaints.
And I'm still confused by the 9am start time issue. Guess Mikey wouldn't like the TX10 series either, as they all start between 9-9:30am. Is getting done early that bad?

Yea, there's no way that could be construed as bashing.
If you've got these concerns, why didn't you calmly and politely air them at an appropriate time to the tournament director? Or if the TD is busy, fill out a tournament feedback form. Or at the least, write something down on a piece of paper that the TD can read later when he's got time.
No, just like a lot of other chicken [*****], you wanna come home and bash the tournament over the internet and air your dirty laundry.

Jan 24 2005, 03:42 PM
Mikey does come across as whining...but some of it is with merit (the rest of it really is just whining, though).
The tee boxes are not great...and numerous border on bad (#1 regular, #2, #4, #5, #11, and #17). But rumor has it that concrete tee pads are on the horizon for this new park that is still being broken in.
Despite not being 'great' tee-pads, they were all fair and playable.
It might not be the greatest course for some of you big-gunned, "I-have-every-throw-in-my-bag" Pros...but it is an extremely fun and challenging course for most Ams (you know, the majority of the folks who play this course...and disc golf in general).
I also think Mikey has a legitimate complaint about having to wait so long for the Ace pot CTP. After realizing that the CTP wasn't going to start anytime soon, I just donated my fee and hit the road since I had a nearly 3 hour drive home.
Otherwise, I thought this was a great second tournament for the Conroe course. With time, I think the popularity of this course will ensure filled tournaments on a regular basis.

Straight from Chuck Kennedy regarding the ratings for Int/Recs -
I can't guarantee it but it's more likely in 2005 since the number of propagators required will likely drop to 5 so we can get more ratings for lower divisions like Int and Rec. It's unclear whether all of those players currently shown in the online posting will renew in 2005 also. In January, they keep prior year members temporarily active online. So you can't tell whether everyone with a rating over 800 will be viable by the time the ratings are processed in late April.
well the only tee that (imo) was bad was #17 and that could be easily solved. one cry :(baby doesn't make a bad tourn. just a poor sport with to much free time :D
oh and just to let you know ATX that course is in a flood plan park it just rarely floods.
also had fun, played my rating, didn't cash.

For all you people that are traveling to Mikey’s Mardi Gras Madness B-tier event, be sure to write down every little thing you find wrong with the tournament. And then of course, come back and post about it on the internet. Don’t forget to include:
1) That the “small hills” advertised in the course directory are really just man-made mounds only a few feet tall
2) “Lots of trees” advertised in the course directory amount to about nineteen on the whole course
3) Ridiculously close proximity of OB to many baskets
4) Holes run close together so you throw into other people’s fairways
5) Ridiculously close proximity to the ghetto next to the course
6) Four tee pads on many holes, all poorly marked
7) Crappy condition of the poleholes
8) Crappy condition (no pun intended) of the public bathrooms
9) If the tournament starts on time or not
10) If pros are grouped with amateurs
11) If you have to walk a long way from tournament central to your starting hole
12) If you get stuck playing behind the slow amateur masters or women’s group
13) If spectators and other park users cause distractions.
14) If the player’s package sucks
15) If the “creole” buffet lunch sucks
16) If the round assignments are posted promptly
17) If the second round starts on time
18) If you have to wait more than 30 minutes after the tourny is over for the awards ceremony
19) If the payout, especially the amateur prizes, sucks
20) If the wind is too strong
21) If the sun is too hot
22) If the 2 live bands don’t play the kind of music you like
23) If you have to drive more than 3 hours to get home
And remember, even if very few other people feel the same way you do, and while it may mislead everyone into thinking that these are legitimate complaints/concerns, it is okay to post this information because it’s THE TRUTH!

Lung How many events have you run?
I've never been the main TD of a PDGA-sanctioned tournament, if that's what you are asking. But I've helped run weekly doubles, tag rounds, ice bowls, and countless PDGA B-Tier and C-Tier events.
How far back did you read, captklank? Did you see your buddy's comments? The whole point is: in all of my years of playing disc golf tournaments, if I have an issue about an event, I take it up with the TD at the tournament, or send him a private message afterwards. To come back and make sarcastic remarks about what one didn't like about the event publicly over the internet is totally assanine and uncalled for.
I dont Agree with The way it all went down .And I wasnt there so I should probably shut my mouth anyway .All I am saying is that I have known him for a long time and never seen anything but good things from him .Personally since everybody acts different when they leave an event .I would rather them say it later on the Board then what I had happen at an event I ran .One of the pros said some things to me and then got in his truck and peeled out of the parking lot in front of sponsors and a bunch of first time event players,Just my opionion But at the end of the event I dont want to here anything from anyone ,For sure not someone who is mad and has to drive a hell of a long way home .Just my thoughts ,Didnt mean to sound ugly Lung.

sue i did want to thank you for picking up my unmarked CE valkyrie, it's almost as pretty as you :Dand i'm not being sarcastic. i always mean everything i say.
and by the way, i really did have a good time, and it's been fun talking smack with all my new texan friends. it's fun to see everyone get excited about disc golf. i don't take it too seriously, but really, if someone breaks an ankle on a unlevel potholed teepad when there's pristine grass next to the box, would that make y'all consider taking out a can of spray paint and taking 60 minutes to paint some safer tees on that pristine grass? i know a pro who broke his leg teeing off on a broken concrete pad (doug williams-formerly of dallas TX) and if sassypanties-in-an-uproar lagrassa can't understand that, it's because he's never played the new 9 holes at in new orleans and as usual he doesn't have a flippin clue about what he is talking about, and our course in new orleans is way better than those crappy excuses for courses they have in pennsylvania where his yankee butt needs to stay! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif believe me if sassyLung-rassa was at the northside freeze he'd be whining louder than me. of course he'd be whining that there was no Pro 2 division where he could hide from the real pros. :p :p or maybe he'd say he had to work eh vinnie? :)

I'd say the comment from "the pirate" left me with an implication that there was something more, something implied between the lines. Arrrrrr, mate, Ms. Sue is sorry, but sometimes, no most all the time, folks get on here, and complain about this or that, and McDade is growing near and dear to local's hearts. Just defending the homeland, sir! ;)
As for running events, I'd have to agree, that until you've walked in those shoes, you can't begin to imagine the situations you'll encounter. My hat is off to all those who allow themselves to be the punching bag a TD must sometimes feel like when it's all said and done. A thankless job at best!

First off I want to thank everyone for coming out. Second, I understand about the teeboxes, we have been trying to get conroe to put in concrete for a few months. They want us to come up with half the cost. And we will in due time. But you have to keep in mind this course has not even been in the ground a year. We will continue to work with conroe to keep improving the course.
And again, thanks everyone for your continued support.

The TD's post sums it up best. They are well aware of tee pad issues and are looking into it. The course hasn't even been in the ground one year, so cut them a little slack. And don't even try to pull that broken leg crap, I was in Houston for business from January 3-9 and played the course, so I do know what I am talking about. I'm like a safety nazi when it comes to courses and I didn't have a problem with them. And next time you have an issue, talk to the TD and keep it off the message board. You made a lot of enemies in Houston this week, Mikey.

ok Lung, you're right. i went back and checked the messages in this thread and the only complaints were about holes 1,2,4,5,11,15 and 17. add that to a pro that i saw on 18 laying down his towel so he wouldn't slip, and me filling in holes on 7 & 10, and you're so right. i guess the PDGA standard is that only 20% of the teeboxes need to be playable. what the heck was i thinking? why in the world would a TD waste a whole 60 minutes making some good tees?
you see Lung, when you get to be a real pro, you'll want to plant on level tees, but coming from your semi-pro should-go-back-to-advanced self, it just doesn't help your suggestion that the teeboxes were okay. did they put me on the PDGA Course Design Committee because I'm so warm and friendly? Not likely-I probably know a wee bit about proper tee boxes, and them holes in the ground ain't cutting it.
hey vinnie, the reason you have so many pros at your minis is because they all go broke when they try to step up to the SuperTours! :D :D :D :D oh there i go again making more enemies...are they just waiting for me at the border? will they chain me to a truck like my brother in jasper and drag me around town? :D
stir stir stir. nothing i like better than texans who don't have a sense of humor :D

I've got a great sense of humor, Mikey. But using the brutal, racially-motivated hate crime that happened in Jasper as an analogy (replete with Smiley Face), is NOT funny.
I didn't meet you on the course this weekend, although I was on the same card as Sue when you came running back to get your unmarked Valk. But, you looked like your average run-of-the-mill white guy to me. So I'm further perplexed by your likening of yourself as a 'brother' to James Byrd Jr. You're neither related contextually nor racially. Perhaps it's via marriage?
Seriously, Mikey, after that last comment--I hope you do keep your sorry-self east of the Sabine. You won't be missed.

rooster, as John Lennon once sang, "You better recognize your brother, is everyone you meet!"
instant karma gonna get me, gonna knock me right in the face, just like rooster would whack me if i was at his place. :Dsorry not all my jokes are winners. we can't all be as funny as texans. and i thought the PDGA BOD was uptight. :D

So, using that logic, it's safe to conclude conversely that you are the 'brother' of John William King, Shawn Berry, and Lawrence Brewer Jr. (the three men who murdered him and drug him behind a truck).
Regardless of the semantics you subscribe to, your analogy was in ill taste. You were able to find humor in James Byrd's death; I can't.

rooster, i apologize. i don't really think it's funny what happened in jasper. y'all finally got the best of me and made me say something nasty.
i'd like to say i'm sorry for that bad joke by sending wyatt a check for $50 to put into the conroe concrete teepad fund. would y'all appreciate that or is that inappropriate? i really didn't want to get carried away, but i did. even mikey loses a battle on the internet once in a while.

so seinfeld can make all the soup nazi jokes he wants, but no one wants to take me up on my $50. funny place this place called conroe.
in honor of your teepads i took a shovel out to my home course last night and dug some holes in our boxes so we can have as good teeboxes as they have in texas. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... :D
hey mikey I think you need to put down the shovel and step away the holes deep enough already :p

I agree with the boxes but not the way he expressed his feelings about them. By the way boxes don't affect you much when you weigh 140lbs. :D:D

Geezus, man! After all that had transpired, including that horribly inappropriate/racist joke, and even despite all the personal attacks against me, you had almost redeemed yourself. You offerred to send $50 for the teepad fund, which was quite the noble gesture. The e-mail address for Wyatt, the tournament director, was listed in the first post of this thread for you to contact him. This thread was dead, and all could have been forgotten. But no; instead, you chose to make another dumb joke about Conroe's tee pads and mock the course yet again!
I just don't know what is wrong with you.
And of course, since Mikey is incapable of any rational discussion, a string of insults against me will now surely follow. All par for the course with him.

I just don't know what is wrong with you.
you just don't get the heterosexual lifestyle, do you Lung?
Rocky Balboa climbs off the canvas and lands the haymaker!
look, i ain't racist. don't even try to pin that label on me. be a man and accept the fact that i'm not perfect and i apologized.
if conroe doesn't think my $50 is good in their town, i'll understand. i'll give it to Lagrassa so he can go buy some more XXL panties and get them all in a wad.
oh, another jab to the Lung's double-chin! he can't take much more punishment! :D
Any help would be appreciated, just email me and let me know what you want to do.

Just for a change, nice tournament, well run, great challenging course, especially given the limited area available. Thanks!
BTW - I noticed this little trick, if the front of the T-box is a little rutted, if you step back about 2-3 feet the ruts are gone. :) My dad would have called this common sense and often wondered why some people didn't have it.
Given the difficulty of getting and maintaining a course within the greater Houston area, I wonder if anyone noticed the immaculate greens, beautiful baskets and elegant markers at this course? Obviously the North Side Team is doing a lot to contribute to local disc golf. Thanks!

So Lyle, will your star rating go up after a good post like that or continue spiraling downward with each political commentary you write
Nothing like keeping a thread that should die up at the top of the board :D
