I have a Gateway Wizard, I believe it's old S plastic (has the "dots" stamp) It worked quite well at first, but has declined over the years. Plus it's warped and won't fly too well. I have been thinking of a rubber or soft type. Discraft and Innova are the only two companies available around here. I'm placing an order with lightning soon...How about their rubber putters? I'm considering the lightning rubber putter, discraft soft magnet, discraft challenger, and any other suggestions. Everyone's help has been greatly appreciated throughout all of my dillemas.
If you really like the Wizard and are placing orders anyway, you can get a Super Soft Wizard that is nice and gummy. I've been using Polecats for a while, and I've tried all the gummy putters, and the Soft Challenger has quickly become my favorite to hold and throw, though my accuracy seems better with the SS Wizard. So it goes, I guess. I never really liked the Soft Magnet.

I would seriously consider Lightning's The Upshot.
I throw The Upshot at 178g and JK Pro Aviar-X at 175g.
Both of them fly really straight for 90% of the flight. But unlike my Aviar-X, if you miss the basket with The Upshot it tends to flop right down when it slows. The Aviar-X tends to turn and fade away from the basket in the slow part of the flight (just like the Innova rating says...+1) .
Since I miss a lot, The Upshot leaves me with more easy second putts.

Omega Super Soft - available through Innova.
I use an Aviar P&A thoughout most of the year, but when the weather turns colder most of my discs turn to bricks. The super soft stays plyable and grippy - love it. :)

Cam Todd Challenger if you want Overstable
Pro D Challenger if you want Straight
UV Soft Challenger if you want straight to understable and really soft and gummy. ( Good only in the winter for me )
My favorite rubbery putter is the X-Putt'r. It's the most comfortable putter I've felt and sticks in the chains very well. It's very straight, but I've found it will hold a hyzer line at putting speeds if that's what you need. It turns over very easily if thrown like a driver which is good, if that's what you want. It's also pertty durable. It doesn't wear like most other plastics. I've never had a "ding" in it. It just seems to get a bit smoother around the rim after breaking in. Mostly I just like it because of how it feels in my hand. I fell in love after picking it up in the store. I'm sure the SS Wizard is a great putter too, but if you have the chance just pick up a X-Putt'r in the store and see what you think. Most discs, and almost all putters fly the same when putting within 20' or more so find something you're comfortable with. If it happens to also be a good driver that's a bonus, too.

Lots of people swear behind the Swirl APX...I personally always prefered the Wizard. Sounds like a Super Soft Wizard might fit the bill.

Choosing a putter that is widely available is a good idea...for multiple-practice discs & replacement purposes.
I love my Super Soft Wizard. I used a couple of the Lightning putters and the only one that was even close to useful for me was the U-2, it was pretty soft and flexible, but not at all gummy like the SS Wizards.

No joke! I have a UV soft Challenger that I really really like, but I can't find them lccally in any good weights. I've found the regular Pro-D's much more avalible.
I've throw soft magnets and I found them almost too soft once they get used, so that might fit the ticket.
Try a soft challenger....sweeeeet

Supersoft Polecat. Flies exactly how far you throw it, then SPLASH! to the chains (or, on that rare occasion, ground). /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I am a big Lightning fan but the Rubber putter is the most uncomfortable feel of all the putters I own. Stick with the Wizard.

"If ever, if ever a Wiz there was, the Wizard is one because, because, because, because, because...... because of the wonderful things it does." :D For me soft but stiff Proto Wizards for most putts. When a putt starts to get into that approach shot territory CryZtal Challenger.
I would recommend an S Wizard. The stiffness is totally up to your feel. I personally prefer them nice and stiff, but do use a soft one (NOT a super soft) on occasion. I feel as if the super soft ones have the flight plate bend when I put my thumb on it to grip. Some people like that and consider it feel, but for me its just a distraction. The S wizard though is my go to disc. I use it from 150 in and possibly out to 200 if there is an open line. The thing I like about the Wizard is its versatility. It can fly hyzer or annie whenever you need it in ANY amount of wear. The flight characteristics seem to be unchanged by disc wear. Take this recommendation as you will coming from a TRUE amateur, but this disc has never let me down.

FLY WHAMO!
I've been putting with 86 softies for 16 years now. I love the way they hold a straight line and don't fall off left like the aviar/magnet/challenger/wizard style putters do. I've also noticed my 86's very rarely ever go thru the chains the way the lower profile putters do. I also love to anhyzer approach and airbounce this disc. If you are a hyzer putter you may not like it but if you like to put your disc on a ropeline to the heart of the chains there is no better choice.
