They go out in waves. I have not seen mine yet, but sometimes it comes a week after they have them in Waterloo.

Pimp's picture is in the free Disc Golf Magazine, not DGWN. I haven't heard that anyone has received the new DGWN yet.
Bruce, I've met Charles but don't really know him too well. I just turned on my fan facing North. I hope the warm, humid, 88 degree breeze finds it's way to you. :)

If you want to get sponsored you may want to start playing OPEN.
cbdiscpimp
Oct 26 2004, 01:26 PM
I could really care less about playing OPEN. I have one season of tournaments under my belt.
I dont need you telling me that im a Junior Varsity player either. I know alot of AMs not junior varsity as you call it who are sponsored. Why not sponsor them. I can tell you that i played in alot more tournaments and would have given a TEAM or SPONSOR alot more representaition then most of the PRO OPEN players that i see who are sponsored and im not even on TOUR.
I dont think that i SHOULD be sponsored i just think it would be nice to get some free plastic and represent a team.
Oh and dont worry about me PLAYING OPEN. Ill be up there soon enough. :D

McCoy is one of the good guys, even though he throws the wrong religion. :)
Did you get a letter in High School for being on your Juniour Varsity syncronized swimming team? NO!
Then should anyone that is playing JV be sponsored? HELL NO!
Why would you need a sponsor to give you plastic when your baggin and stackin plastic to the ceiling? Drop your balls out of your gut and play with the MEN!
YEEEAH BOY CAN'T FRONT ON THAT!!!Ams are like BumpS raps...They need to step up :D
I don't hate ya! Sponsored JV players is just my biggest pet peive.
There are many, many good pros that are not sponsored that could use a little help getting a few free disc here and there. What does a JV'r need with more plastic after they just won 25 discs the past weekend
cbdiscpimp

Then should anyone that is playing JV be sponsored? HELL NO!
Why the hell not??? You havent given one valid reason other then the GREAT KEVIN McCOY thinks so. Its about being part of a TEAM and representing a company and pushing their products and giving them good PR. I played just as many tournaments as you did this year and i work a FULL TIME JOB.
Why would you need a sponsor to give you plastic when your baggin and stackin plastic to the ceiling? Drop your balls out of your gut and play with the MEN!
BAGGING  Have you even looked at my stats or player rating. I would hardly call it bagging. I played 3 Am 2 tournaments and 24 Advanced tournaments in my first full competitive season of tournaments EVER. If i was SANDBAGGING dont you think i would have won more then 1 tournament. Oh wait I DIDNT WIN A SINGLE tournament so how can i be a BAGGER.
And dont you worry about me moving up and playing OPEN. It will happen just not till i learn to win down here first. I think its a great idea to sponsor AMs. That way when the up and coming AMs go pro and get GOOD they are already throwing your plastic :D

OK being part of a team and representing a company. GOOD I'll buy that. But do you really need a company to sponsor you and give you stuff to promote a product you like, NO. Buy yourself a Discraft hat and a shirt and tell everyone how good the stuff is. Tell everyone you love Discraft and when you get your game straight and you start whooping some professionals I'm sure that big Keith would LOVE to add you on the team.

I already have all that under control. If you see an Am Walking around A Tiers or any event for that matter with a bag full of Preds, Tsunamis, BUZZZs and Challengers with a collared Discraft Dri-Fit and A Discraft hat on telling everyone they need to take out their Firebirds and Throw Preds or Leave the aviar and Putt with the challenger then its prolly me :D
Hopefully some day i will be a part of Team Discraft. It is a dream and goal of mine. I dont think I SHOULD be sponsored right now. I just think it would be AWESOME to be part of that team some day. I wasnt the one who said i needed to get sponsored someone else did. Untill then i will keep my bag full of Discraft because i think its better and i like the way they treat their players and customer. Plus it WORKS for me.
Like I said I don't hate ya!
And it's cool that you are promoting DISCRAFT! You are already on the right path, just get your game straight and I'm sure someday you'll make it.
Here is a tip though to get sponsored faster: It may help if you move to SoCal or NC right in INNOVA country.

do you think Tiger Woods goes around telling people they should wear this or that brand of shoes, or play with a certain brand of golf equipment? A real Pro just lets his play do the talk and that is why he gets sponsored. his play sells the equipment -- not his mouth

I didnt even say i SHOULD be sponsored or that thats even why i tell people about Discraft. Its not. I tell them because i think its better and more consistent and it can work for people who are lookin for new plastic. I wouldnt tell everyone Discraft made great discs if they didnt. Promoting and representing the product well is a givin. There is usually some sort of achievement criteria required as well. That is what makes it special to be on a team. Our sport is full of good hearted, nice people. They have to be choosy.

I'm just saying telling people they should throw this or that brand is not how the best players get sponsorship offers. They do it with their level of play. Discraft equipment is successfully used by many touring pros. However Innova has won far more World Championships -- are you seriously saying that Schultz and Climo would be playing a lot better if they changed sponsors?

I dont even know where you got that from. Were Kenny or Barry ever even brouht up in this thread??? Anyone can play with ANYTIHNG. Kenny and Barry could prolly throw all LIGHTNING plastic and still be as good as they are. I didnt say it was about what plastic you throw or anything like that. When I got back into DG earlier this year, I still had Tracers, Cyclones, Vipers, Eclipses and even the Marauder in my bag still. (yeah its been that long...lol) The point is I threw what I liked. Today I still have that same mentality. I throw Discraft and Innova. Its what works for me! When suggesting plastic to someone I push what I feel would be right for them based on my observations of their particular style and power. I dont think I will ever have to worry about making the decision of ALL Discraft, or Innova in my bag. :p

When you said that you go around:
"telling everyone they need to take out their Firebirds and Throw Preds or Leave the aviar and Putt with the challenger"
I was wondering if everyone included Barry and Kenny? I like your enthusiasm for the game and that you set high goals for yourself such as getting a Discraft sponsorship. More power to you. But in my opinion, going around telling people they should lose their Aviars and putt with Challengers crosses the line though :D That is when I want to know if you tell Barry and Ken what they should putt with?
Tiger Woods didn't get his Nike sponsorship by first telling others they should lose their favorite brand of clothes or shoes and wear Nikes. When you start doing Discraft commercials you can tell me what to putt with and I won't question your authority ;-)

DGWN #71, Fall 2004 was mailed Friday, October 22 from Oklahoma City. Transit time is anywhere from 5-24 days, determined by regional post offices which prioritize bulk mail in ways no other humans understand. Add four days for those whose mail must be forwarded to a new address. Most issues get delivered in the 14-21 day range. The missing in action date for most issues is again 24 days or November 15.
DGWN staff apologize for running a week behind their regular schedule, but this issue, which features massive coverage of the Worlds and is a record 116 pages, is a very solid issue.
One small problem, the printer shopped 99 less issues to the mail house than it should have, so there are 99 subscribers whose issues are not yet shipped. The DGWN staff is figuring out who those are so they can answer their individual queries.
Meanwhile, the bottom line is that most people should get their copy somewhere at the end of the first week or in the second week of November and you should not be concerned about "missing" your copy until November 15 at the earliest!

He IS a good kid. He's one of my favorite kids. He's Elijah Chisholm of Lincoln, NE, who placed 3rd. According to Eli's mom, David had to take off before the photo op. It's Rick's bad. Rick (or his DGWN staff) also managed NOT to talk to Nebraska's Kella Rodiek...hmmmm. I think he has something against us Nebraskans...

Given that some of the DGWNs probably got delayed by the last-minute massive direct mail campaigns for the presidential and other elections, and that the federal holiday - Veterans Day - is coming up, this issue is probably a little slower than usual getting to us.
Speaking of which, as a veteran myself - 4.5 years, enlisted, US Navy, 3 tours to Vietnam - I wonder how many others out here are veterans. If you're like me, it's a rare Veterans Day when anyone actually recognizes my service. So, from me to you: "Thank you!"
(Which does not deny at all that many of those my age who were smarter and less naive than I was were smart enough to realize that war was unjust and managed to stay out of it.)

My Dad served in Korea and is now firmly against war as am I. Nonetheless, I don't know of any soldier who goes to war without some notion of helping America and trying to protect her, no matter what the cause or outcome of the war. Thank you for your service Terry.

I think the Lizard needs his own magazine. His are by far the best articles in the mag. I was going back through some old issues and found his interview of the Winni Crew friggen hillarios. Plus since I know Mark well I hear his voice and inflection when reading which makes it even better. :D :D
Is it time to be concerned yet? No magazine in lower New York yet.

Got my renewal form today too...Did you check the box to pay extra for priority shipping for the 2005 DGWN's?
Screw priority mail, how about they try first class mail. Is it just me, or does anyone else see a problem with the fact that it is taking over a month to get a freakin' magazine? Every week my TV Guide shows up without fail, what do I have to do to get my DGWN before the next issue comes out?

Is it safe to assume then, those addresses are removed from the data base forgoing any further cost to the PDGA? Or are they continued to be sent in hopes of them finding a new home and running up the costs of such mailings and other overhead such as receiving the '100' or so back? Just curious.
Annual calculation =$2.53 more x about 8000 copies x 4 issues/year = total additional costs to PDGA of sending out DGWN first class to USA members = $80,000 per year or $10 more per current USA member
I must have been under the mistaken assumption that DGWN was a separate, for profit organization. Does that mean that the PDGA gets a share of the ad revenue?

WHAT A GREAT ISSUE!
Although I thought I would hate it, the article on the first worlds was a great read and my favorite from the issue. What is the most amazing to me, as a relative new comer, is how many of those names play important yet sometimes unnoticed roles in the sport even to this day.
BTW - I got mine Nah Nah Nah! :D

Finally got a chance to read mine. Liked all the worlds coverage, especially all the pictures. Nice to have some coverage of the small divisions too. While I didn't read it, the article specifically for women was good to see. I'm sure that a lot of the how- to articles don't always apply to them.
What I would like to see more of:
- More interviews with touring players, like the Carolina Crew article last year.
- A segment that focuses on top prefomers in a region/ series. There are a lot of great players out there who don't tour full time that almost no one knows about. Every issue the top preformer(s) in a particular region are recognized. One region is done per issue, or a paragraph each about each region every issue. This would fill in some of the gaps from just the supertour stats.

That's a great idea about doing a feature on local players. We do all know about the national names, and there are a lot of good players out there tearing up their region.
As for feedback, Rick stopped publishing letters to the editor years ago. IIRC, those were mostly positive in nature.
I've been reading DGWN for 10+ years. The style and format have come along way since the original issues with too many single spaced articles and pretty much no pictures.
I'm glad to see the many regular features. I personally enjoy everything John Houck writes for the mag. Carlton Howards pieces are informative for a wide range of skill level players.
I have never had a problem with the timeliness of delivery, but I live in Nebraska. I would want to change the delivery system if it means I have to pay more. A first class mailing option would be nice for those with delivery trouble.

Finally got mine! :D
Although some folks in my state got thiers 3-4 weeks before I did
Finally, a question to all the d board readers: DGWN #71 is an absolutely fabulous issue. Why are we and the editor receiving basically zero feedback on the quality of this issue and the publication in general? There is nothing like positive feedback in terms of making folk feel they are doing a great job and to inspire them to continue to do so.
Ok. Here you go.
I like it. :D
Really! I like it a lot. In the last twenty years (or so) I have seen a lot of leaps and bounds in DG. One of thoes leaps is DGWN. I believe it should be promoted and sold wherever discs are sold.
On any given weekend, the courses in DFW are packed to the point that if it were indoors the Fire Marshal would close them down. There are a lot of people out there that play and still have no clue as to what the sport is all about. They have never heard of DGWN. If more people, specifically non-PDGA members, buy or subscribe: would the price come down?, would it be possible to increase the number of issues?, would you, by reaching more people, open the door for more corporate sponsorships and advertisers?
What kind of distribution network do you have in place in order to reach these people? Are there any local distributers?
Better didtribution would lead to more PDGA members and a higher future subscription base. Keep up the synergistic relationship! Everyone wins.
Mine arrived the day before Thanksgiving which is odd since most of the others in the area got their's way earlier. No harm though.
I have enjoyed the three DGWNs that I have gotten this year. (I am a newbie that registered mid-year) I also look forward to getting them again next year.
this is getting downright ridiculous
I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY DGWN.
And I'm not paying my renewal til I get it.
Not sure what is going on, but I'm getting sick of hearing how good the mag is and I don't get to see one!!
