grunion and i are wanting to play some night golf in austin on saturday night.
Interested?
Thinking about Pease, but are open to sugestions...Neither of us have played night golf in Austin, so any tips would be appreciated...
post here if you want to play...weather should be sweet, and maybe we can get some of the waterloo crowd to have a good turnout...
Looks like I got a couple people already interested. I am going to academy to pick up the lights. These will be the re-usable LED's and I will sell them for cost or beer, hehehehe. Anyway they run about $2 a piece and I will need to know how many to get. So let us know if you wanna join the game. Dont get Skeered!!!!
talked to Moody about having it at Pease...He said technically the park closes at 10pm, but if we are already on the course, probably no problems...He did suggest we park on the road, and not in the parking lot to avoid possible problems...
I am thinking Cat Hollow. There is plenty of parking and as long as people were not yelling noone would know we were out there. Lago is to far for people to drive and I think the law might try to rain on our perade at Pease. Anyone else got any advice? We could do it at Seawright or somewhere on the south.
cat hollow is cool with me

Ugh.............. do we realy need another Texas "hey lets play at ___" thread dont you have 1000 other threads already.?
umm, if you dont like it, dont look.
Of course we do! And that is not enough threads to cover all the courses in Texas. I am sorry your state only has 60 courses and ours doubles that. We just have alot more going on I guess. Anyway back to the subjuect at hand. Lets play some friggin night golf peoples!!!!

Seriously why dont you go post in a forum related to your side of town. You are obviously bored and probably suck at disc golf so you have to occupy your time disrupting other boards rather than work on your game. Take heade from the hicks out here. Trust me, you dont want none.
Maybe I should change his avater to a fat sweaty arse. It would fit alot better.

Real Glow golf is played with glow plastic not tapeing some fancy schmancy light onto a regular disc. Come on up to Michigan and play in an actaul Glow tourny Mystic Mills We will feed ya and provide tasty beverages of choice.between rounds.
Oh wait... you cant just throw a hyzer up here better stay home
brook, whats so bad about the "fancy" 2 dollar lights? there alot less hassle than the glow discs, and they look alot cooler in the air. i play michigan glow golf and i wont use anything but the lil lights. i gurantee one thing, youll never lose a disc with a red light taped to it, you can see those things along ways away. plus you can put them on discs that dont come in glow plastic. also i was wondering what kind of glow rules does everyone use, flashlight wise? the rule we use is that you can only use a flashlight when your within 50 feet of the basket and once on the tee before you throw to pick a good line, but then it has to be turned off to throw.

Typically in all the Michigan glow I have ever played there is NO white light allowed. If anything a flashlight that is lit when right at the basket and set on top to light up only the basket. That light is then put out until someone runs up and lights up the next basket. As for seeing your line ... come on you have played those courses many times before just throw the usual. As for the red lights on the disc those were illegal at Mystic Mills last year only glow plastic. That is a good equalizer as everyone has the same disadvantage of not throwing their usual well known discs. I think that provides some more of the fun. As for all this Texas stuff I tend to agree with Brooke on the point of this was nothing more than a hey lets play some golf tonight, I've never played before. Don't you have a local board for that simple stuff ? And also Mr. Space Cataz if you are just learning night golf then perhaps discretion about blindly (from the white light at night..just kidding) saying someone sucks at DG because of their opinion is a sad way to go through life because I would believe that Brooke would whup up on you in the night or in the light. But alas it fits with an avatar of someone who would deserve to get pranked by ordering 4 million pizzas from another space station now doesn't it ??? :D:D:D

Westa I think the whole point of glow is to:
1. develop a glow bag for just that purpose.
2. eliminateing all light except to charge your plastic.
3. know your throws so that you will never loose a disc ( I have been glowing since 1998 and have never lost a glow disc).
Also glowing with an experienced group of glowers helps. Use of a flashlight is a STROKE!!!
On the point of bag development you should checkout Shack's glow bag Sannys, old hard aviars old mold whippets AHH makes you drool.
thx for the props Jerry :D

I'd join you guys but the drive down from ft worth right after work is so not teh win
Talked to some people that said we might have problems in Cat Hollow with the man. That is why the marathon could not be 24hrs at cat hollow, they would not let them play past 10...
Why would you not allow lundy lights (the leds) at a glow tourney? Seems it is cheaper and easier to buy the lights and tape on a disc versus buying discs that glow...Everyone has the same oppurtunity to buy whatever equipment they want...no reason to put stipulations on it...
This thread is appropriate for this forum. This is exactly why the board is here. Again, if you don't like it, stop reading it, and certainly stop posting on it.
I think the glow tourneys would not allow the LED because it is modifying the disc and its original flight characteristics. I like the fact that I can take a driver I know very well and play night golf with it. I have never played with flashlights or glow sticks in the baskets. I feel that any light will hender your vision while looking down the fairway. Good ole fashion moonlight is the best way to go in my opinion.
So where do you suggest we play at Nix? Did not see you at Pease this morning. PM me and let me know where you think we should go. Even though the man might frown upon it, my experience is if everyone is quite and not acting like an arse, then no one is even the wisest. Ive even had cops approach me back in houston and since there were no complaints and we did not have any illegal substances out in the open, they let us continue. We usually park out cars a little distance away from the park. Cat Hollow would be perfect since it is in a neighborhood and there is plenty of parking that would not look obvious.
Anyway do I need to pick a LED for you Nix? Are you still gonna be able to make it?

Hey, Brooke - thanks for the phone call Thurs pm. Sorry I couldn't make it - hope you and the boys had a great time glowing. Maybe later this week!
Having encountered groups of doofuses out on the course at night, everyone armed with a strong flashlight, playing with regular discs, I now know about anything is possible vis a vis night golf.
Like Brooke, I have always played with only glowie discs and just feel to do otherwise is an abomination. (fwiw,I once saw a light separate from the disc - when it gets cold, many types of tape will fail...)
I'm sure you didn't mean to rile the Texans up by complaining about odd postings (eg ignoring all the existing Texas threads and starting one in the "courses" section) but it sure is fun to hear them complain and get all fired up about nonsense.
Once you get off parole for that unfortunate double homicide (I know you didn't think it was loaded!) and can travel to Texas, I'm sure you'll be heading there for a few rounds with real men.
Joe
thats cool and all but we only play just for fun and to watch red lights fly threw the air, if i want to play serious tourny type golf then ill do just that, and play in a tourny but other than that i dont think it gets any better than using the red lights with my normal play discs...different strokes for different folks i guess. keep on glown

Westa -
You've got it right. Glowing is all about the fun, after all. I tell folks its like regular disc golf, with the amp turned up to 11. (Although I've been bummed most rounds since my glow bag was liberated out of my car a couple years ago...)
I think the best thing about glowing is being out in the woods in the middle of the night. I don't often find myself out there at night otherwise, and it really is a different world late at night.
Coolest thing ever during a glow round for me? Back about 10 years ago, playing the Mystic, when huge snow flakes started falling. Whenever anyone used their flash to charge their discs, the whole area lit up when the flakes caught the light. A remarkable night playing a remarkable game, made all the more wacky because of the kookie disc golfers howling off in the distance.

Hudson Mills for me. This time of year there are generally folks there glowing whenever the weather is good.
I have to remember to play some day golf with my glow discs but with even day rounds scarce these days, its hard to chuck anything but my favorite discs.
Drive carefully.

Cheaper and easier? I have had the majority of my glow plastic for 5-8 years. If I was puchaseing lights every year I would be spending many more $. As far as easier when you bought all your other discs the vendor didn't have glow plastic ever? Doesen't Moody sell glow? When I played RR Show I saw people playing glow with glow plastic.
And let me say Moody is a great guy I had a load of fun at RR Show everyone that can should play RR Show. :)
okay Brooke. You throw glow discs, and I'll throw my everyday plastic with a light taped on it. I agree to disagree with you. Have fun.

Nix, We call it Night Golf. We have played twice at the Lago Vista Arrowhead Course and I think we are planning a round this Friday the 22nd.
ANY light is a BIG distraction even to charge glow discs. The LED lights come in different colors and look way cool flying at night. For the baskets we put a 6 glow stick and a small red strobe on each basket. Very Trippy! If everybody pitches in the cost is minimum.
Wait two more weeks after the time change and you can start at 6:30 and not have to worry about the curfews. I suggest a fairly open course where if you shank a shot you arent in the briar patch lookin for it.
If we are playing Friday night I will PM you instead of posting here, so as to not P.O. the yanks!!:D:cool:

man, I stayed there in June, and did not even think of this...... sure wish I could make it there for some night golf in Lago! I like playing in the dark, glow, lights whatever, as long as the tape is applied correctly or you get a flutter sound. drives me crazy, so I end up playing REAL night golf with no lights. We in Houston don't tend to light the basket up... stay under radar of the cerfew laws

TEXAS RULES! & someone is jelous! :o :DJP
Yes I have to agree. The cost of a glow disc might be cheap and last for years but the Q-beams to flash them are freaking expensive. I would say the LED's are the way to go cause you can pull them outa your bag at any time rather than having to go back to the truck to pick up extra gear to haul around just to throw some glowing midrange disc. I like my plastic and the fact that I can convert any disc to a night disc in about 5 seconds. Brooke sounds like some old fogie stuck in his ways and not able to except change. I bet he is still running widows 95 for fear of change.

I'm not bashing so don't bring down the wrath of Texas on me but I did notice that the major reason for not using lights/camera flash to light the disc was blindness. Understandable. Have any of you guys used a black light? Thats how we light our glow discs here. Usually Wal-Mart or some similar store carries em in the fishing section. They light up a glow disc better than any white light I've seen and don't nake you see spots like a camera flash (because someone always seems to look at the wrong time).

He was deffinately not shy about the run at all. Was'nt there another drive that almost slammed the basket last night as well? Had some good runs I know that. Had a blast and the sausage wraps were off the hook.

Great job starting the new thread to waste bandwidth on an organization's website you don't even pay to belong to.
Your spelling (Genral) and more examples will surely improve once you get out of middle school, Oh how did I guess that ?? How about big time cut downs like perpendicular pile of puppy poop! As for the fact that you drive ... Is that really unusual in Texas for middle school students being in their late teens ... I think not
And mostly you talk about posting "on our thread" why can't you get the point that Brooke is making that it is NOT your thread ... if you wanted it to be your thread it should be called Let's golf at night near Austin, TX. ... then others like us wouldn't need to visit it ... by title it is not clear that it is "your thread" you will learn more about this when you get to high school. :D Carry on like the Meatwad you portray
Oh no :o Go to another board and discuss something important, like your game, or lack of. Also, I do not feel like paying $20 to become a member of the PDGA makes me a professional nor allow me to post more messages on the board. If any of you have a clue what bandwidth is then you would not be directing it to a message board. I have a suggestion, put as much concentration into your game as you do this board. And hey, lets do it during the night....which is what this topic is about. Now can we please get onto the topic and stop whining about the title of the thread and that our locals seam to be keeping it alive.
Texas courses are twice as big!!!!!

Rodney, The main reason for using the LEDs is that you just tape them on the transparent discs you are already us to throwing. You know how the disc throws and don't have to have glow discs. They look cool too with the lights spinning. I do use a glow putter and charge it with a Q beam in my car every four or five holes. I have heard and seen the little black lights they do work great at charging glow and do not blind. Thanks for the input.

Just got my first glow disc today, after winning the mini in am here in fort worth at zboaz ... also the last time I play am :)
It's a teebird 175 with Maceman's big [*****] jester face stamp on it. I'm looking forward to getting a glow firebird and a putter as well and get some good night golf on down here.
grunion how did the round go??
did you find your grill in the truck??
My round went ok. I shot an 8 over :( ........Its ok cause I still had the best score. Natalie was doing fantastic. She was tide for second till hole number 5. I found the grill ok. Kinda hard to cook my hotdogs and stuff with the fire out though. Its all good, had a blast. I have to say if people would get away from the glow sticks and switch to the LED's we would spend less time looking for discs and more time playing. Those things just disappear when you are throwing for distance. My LED's were never lost, even in the thick cedars it was so easy to see. Maybe some of you guys will join us next time. Cant wait to do it again.
yeah I dunno what happened with that fire, they never could get it going, so we did not cook either...Efrain, Ricky and I all talked a little about a glow mini...We think we can change the course up just a little and make a good night course...stay tuned!
