Quick Question: I know that if you move up to Pro but want to maintain your Am status you cannot accept any prize money. But then I was reading in the rules and it states: "A player also relinquishes amateur status by accepting prizes in lieu of prize money for finishing in that professional division." If I'm reading it correctly, that applies to trophies and other awards too? Basically, I cannot accept anything that is awarded, cash or not, for placing in pro if I want to stay am? :confused:Just want to make sure I don't end up shooting myself in the foot in the future... Sorry if this question has been answered before on another thread...

You can accept trophies/plaques, win CTP prizes and receive player packs in a Pro division and retain your Am status. In Minnesota, we allow Ams to enter pro divisions at 1/3 the entry fee for that reason. It would be nice if other areas did this to encourage Ams on the way up to try playing in a Pro division.

You can accept the trophy, as pointed out above. What you can't do is end up in the cash and take that amount in merch. Say you win $50. You have to decline it to stay Am. If you accept $50 worth of discs instead of the cash, you just turned pro.

i remember hearing chuck talk about this issue at animalfest, but i think it's something that really needs to be put out there more. I still know of a lot of people who have accepted merch in Open this year to "retain am status" which I know shouldn't be happening. Perhaps this needs to be stressed a little more Chuck?

So that would be the "in leiu of" part of the rules, right? The rules are saying you can't accept anything that's an alternative to the money. I'm just wanting to play Am worlds next summer and don't want to ruin my chances by making a stupid mistake. It's pretty easy to place in the money when there's only 2-3 pro women at a tourney which will probably be the case this weekend for me if I move up. Either that or I may play with Intermediate or Advanced men and not even worry about the whole cash issue.

Unless you're playing Pro2, in which case you can accept merch and still retain your AM status.

Zactly. That's probably what I said at Animalfest since they had Pro 2.
