With a lot of support, drive and help from Ranger Dave, a spankin' brand new 9-hole course has been prepped to play. Yesterday was National Public Lands Day. Basically, volunteers nationwide spend a day doing whatever is needed to preserve and improve the public lands.

A few Delta Windjammers and some of the other vols scraped new tee pads and poured the concrete for the first 9 sleeves. The holes were dug out by prison labor and they did excellent work. The baskets will go in as soon as they are put together, welded, and we have all of the locks.

I believe the course will be called "Fiddleneck". Very easy to find once you are in the park. After you pay your $4 to the nice man in the booth, just drive up to the first parking lot on the right. Hole 1 starts there and #9 ends there. Bathrooms @ 1/9 and hole 6. When we get the OK for the second 9, it will also start nearby. And it will be even sweeter than the front.

There's rough terrain with boulders scattered here and there. Views of the reservoir are on every hole. There are quite a few oak trees and wildlife signs everywhere. Very beautiful place to camp/fish/boat/swim/play.

From Hiway 99 take 26 east until you get to Valley Springs. After you drive by La Contenta Ball Golf Course, you'll soon see the New Hogan Dam sign. Turn right into park. See ya out there. KL

A back nine was also mapped out and marked.

This could very well be the site for next year's NorCal Championships.

Hi Kenny.

Sounds great! I'll have to come up and see it, maybe you can give a tour. How far from Auburn?

See you at the Faultline, then I'll see you on the first Tee at St Patys next year ;)

I'd say it's about 50 miles from Auburn if you take 49 south from Auburn.

Can't wait to christen this course very soon.

The course is basically east of Lodi.

If you aren't planning on going to the Faultline this year, you might want to come play the "Grand Opening" of Fiddleneck.
In conjunction with TC's farewell party the Delta Windjammers are having their weekly at the new course.
We have the original 9 and Sal Teresi will be bringing his 9 chings out there for the back 9.
We will probably tee off at 10 am...eat...then play another 18. Should be a lot of fun.

The Delta Windjammers will be having their weekly @ New Hogan's Fiddleneck course this coming weekend, Oct 30th at 10 A.M. sharp.
We'll be setting up the temp back 9. Always fun to hang out with the Windjammers...

Kenny, If you get a chance, please go to the Course Directory and insert the New Hogan Dam course (I think the only NorCal course that has been inserted recently is Regency Park in Natomas).

Thanks, Cliff Towne

Will do, Cliff. Was kinda waiting until we get the back 9 permanently installed. We can always update it, correct?

I played 4 rounds of 9 at Hogan with Craig "Krash" Gustafson yesterday. Awesome time. This course is a jewel in the foothills with views of the lake and dam everywhere you go. You can park for free just to the right of the guard shack and keep an eye on your vehicle from anywhere on the course. We saw about 5 cars all day. Totally sweet! Can't wait to go back for some of the most peaceful golf around.

Our next weekly out at New Hogan will be Jan. 29th, 2005.

Tomorrow, Jan 29th, the Delta Windjammers are proud to present: The newest jewel in NORCAL. New Hogan Dam will be set up for a trial run for the CVS Finals. We're playing a 27 hole weekly. We'll play the back 9 twice since it is temporarily temporary. We start around 10, so come one, come all since there's nothing else going on around here this weekend. KL

After raising money from many generous donators, the Delta Windjammers have received enough money to buy the back 9 out at Fiddleneck/New Hogan Dam.

The back nine holes have been dug out for the sleeves that will go in tomorrow evening. After that, we will go back out and install some alternate pin positions to make the course a little less sidearm friendly(RH). The baskets are being safety welded(against theft) and will be in the ground in about a week. I can't wait!! KL

OK, we are a little behind schedule, but enough holes have been dug out to have a complete course. We still have to fill 7 of the holes with sleeves that will make the course complete with an additional few atlernate holes availabe.

Thank you R.J., Distractor, Tony, and Russ A. for the hard work today.

Hopefully we can pour the rest of the sleeves this week.

18 sleeves are now in the ground as of last night. Baskets 10-13 were installed also last night. We still have to weld up some collars for some extra sleeves. Then we'll have some alternates ready for the NorCal Championships coming soon.
An alternate course of 18 also needs to go in for this event. I would love to put 9 of the holes on an island out there and have a ferry service for the foursomes. You would need to see this to appreciate it. So get out to Fiddleneck for 13 holes. The other five are going in tomorrow or the next day.

The Army Corp of Engineers dropped the last five baskets in the ground Sunday nite. Fiddleneck is now a full 18 holes of pure pleasure and ready for the NorCal Finals. Alternate pin positions are the next order of business out there. This is a sweet course and I want to thank anyone who had anything to do with getting it together. KL

Thanks to Nation Public Lands Day and all of the volunteers, Fiddleneck now has 18 shiny, new tee signs firmly cemented in the ground.
We had college students, families, and a boy scout troup doing the tough digging and pouring. Finished in 2 hours.
This was followed by a disc golf demo by myself, an excellent bar-b-q, free raffle, and many proud, self-actualizing volunteers.
Come play Fiddleneck. It rocks! KL

Oct 10 2005, 09:10 PM
Thanks for reminding me, Sean. Will do soon.

Another cool thing about the course: Mr. Neal said he will donate 30 sleeves to the park. Let's go dig us a bunch of alternates! I already have some sweet ones picked out.

We will be having a monthly out there starting pretty soon. It will be singles and doubles. You can play both rounds or just one, whatever you have time for. It will be very convenient for all.

Did I have to hold EVERYBODYS hand :(

That course has been in the ground for over a year. It is the course designers DUTY to get it in the course directory.

It is very simple to do online at pdga.com.

At least go in and enter it now. That way it will still be online, if not in the PRINTED directory. :)

That's funny! Go ahead and put my # down. Or you can put Topdog's #. He seems interested. I don't care.

Haven't talked to wally yet. He's working weird hours.

We will be at Fiddleneck this Saturday for our Windjammer Weekly. 2 rounds: Doubles @ 10, singles following.

The Delta Windjammers will proudly present their weekly tourney this weekend at Fiddleneck Disc Golf Course @ New Hogan Dam in awesome Valley Springs, CA. The ace pot is about 130 ducats~.

It has been a very long time, but here's the skinny on Fiddleneck: Russ Neumann and I installed a bench that was donated by RJ near teepad #4. From there you can see lake views of both sides of the penninsula. We also put in 4 more sleeves for alternate holes. You can now play alternates on 14, 15, 16, and 3 new options on 17. Can't wait to play them.
It was Public Lands Day. The Army Corp of Eng. gave us certificates for the work and a free lunch. About 100 volunteers did various jobs out at New Hogan Dam last Sat. It was a good day.
This weekend, NorCal will be putting on a B tier Am only tourney out there. Things are looking real g00d out there at the Fiddleneck Disc Golf Course. Thank you, Ranger Brian.

Hi Kenny,

I thought an older guy did it during the CVS finals in 2005? #17 is the long downhill shot, right? Maybe it was a long par putt? But everyone was talking about it, so it must have been a circle 2.
Cheers,
Steve
