Hey, I am relatively new to the sport, and was wondering about Sponsorships.
I know they are out there, but exactly what are they. Free equipment, tourney entrees maybe?
Also, is anyone here Sponsored?
I have also heard it is possible to make a living through Disc Golf. True?

Here (http://www.innovadiscs.com/team/index.html) is a list of people sponsored by Innova. There are various levels of sponsorship. There are probably less than 20 people in the world good enough to make a living playing disc golf full time. Only a lucky few do.

The answers to your questions are yes, yes, and yes.
Here is a list of Discraft's sponsored players. (http://www.discraft.com/Web%20Pages/Sponsored1.html)
I made a living off disc golf for over 2 years. I had a blast sometimes and sometimes it was very stressfull trying to feed 2 mouths. This year I went out by myself and had the time of my life.
NOW I'M BACK @ WORK and not in JAPAN :(

My_Hero,
The Discraft list is not complete. They picked me up in May and I still have not been added to the list.
I hope they aren't ashamed of me...lmao

Well, actually yes. Chris had a bunch of Dcraft mini's left over from a tourney that he ran. I asked if u could have them so i could make Baby-H a really cool mobile.
I'd like to see the man that was so kind.
Also, how's your website looking? Last time i checked i became nauseous because of all of Chris's pics :D

Are there any companies daring (or foolish) enough to sponsor Ams?

I believe that Gateway works sponsorship deals with ams. Not sure the exact details, but the ams I've come across who have those deals sure act like Gateway is sponsoring them. Full Gateway garb, Gateway bag complete with all Gateway plastic, trying to sell me the latest Gateway plastic.
I seem to remember Dave McCormick soliciting for interested ams on this here discussion page a while back. It's probably in the archives somewhere.

Congrats Coda. Well deserved. I put in a good word for you after playing the TX10 Wichita Falls event. You were an absolute pleasure to golf with. You're too kind and mature for your age. Keep it that way.

Myself and Dario Re are both Gateway sponsored, and were only 16 and 18! As far as perks, it means free gear, discs, and bonuses for winning. We also have access to CHEAP wholesale pricing.

Why would it be foolish to sponsor an AM???
I played in 27 tournaments this year and 5 of those were A Tiers and 2 of them were Majors. I am always promoting the discs and equipment that i use. I would be representing at just as many tournaments as the touring pros and they wouldnt have to pay my entry fees. So basically if they give me free plastic they get representation and promotion at 27 tournaments a year 7 of those being MAJOR tournaments.
I dont see why sponsoring an AM would be foolish. Sponsorship is all about the promotion and exposure or the product right???
I would think anyone that plays A LOT of tournaments has a good attitude and promotes the product well would be a good person to sponsor.
Just my opinion i could be wrong :D
anyone in thier right mind wouldn't sponser you pimp
maybe if you left that hat at home, maybe :D

Thanks for the vote of confidence forgiven.
On the other hand i dont know alot of Disc Golfers who are in the so called "RIGHT MIND" so maybe i have a chance after all. If i was sponsored atleast the sponsor would know that everyone would HEAR about their product because i am so LOUD :D
man playing 27 tournys a year you must work just to support your discgolf habit

I dont deliver Pizza. I sell car parts and 27 is what i have already played. I still have about 7 or so more to play before it starts to snow :D
I could really use a sponsor :D
hold out your hand and look for the dollar falling from the sky i hope it doesn't get blown off course :D

Do you get a ca$h bonus for winning or more gear?

If memory serves, Discraft was sponsoring Timmy Gill while he was still an AM.
Does being sponsored by X-company entail using ONLY x-company's discs/gear as it does in most other sports?

Pros get cash bonuses, AMs get more gear, often special stamps, sweatshirts etc. etc.

Matt: Weren't you the one at Worlds that said you would throw all Gateway? If you are still interested, give David an email:
[email protected]
He seemed interested when Nikko mentioned you had said that. I'm sure you guys could work things out. Plus, just as any good golfer, it wouldn't take you long to learn the plastic.

I am also a Gateway sponsored am and the way that Gateway does it is you can throw antoher brand, but your only eligible for the performance bonus if you throw exclusively Gateway.

No, I would have to say that sponsorship is not all about promotion and exposure of the product.
