Just pour some acetone on a tissue and rub the maker right off. It works well.

Or, you could try returning the disc to its rightful owner instead of erasing his/her name and adding your own!

Heh...but if it's your own disc and you need to remove the markings, acetone will work just fine.

I've noticed that with certain plastics (mostly anything besides DX or Pro-D) even if you use paint thinner or acetone, there will still be some residual marker. I mean you can't really see it , but you can still see what used to be there.

EDIT:
n/m I just read the linked thread, I guess I should try 100% acetone.

i make EVERY effort i can to return a lost discto its owner, these discs had enough stress being lost and left alone, how could one not try and return it to the very owner who knows said disc and loves it so.

the reason i asked, lets say nephew+disc+sharpie= an ace disc being tagged by a 3 year old

With some plastics, the marker soaks right through the plastic and you can see it through the top. When it soaks through, you can't get it out. With DX type plastics you can just rob it off with your finger!

Another thing to try is citrus oil. Be careful with acetone because it can alter the plastic and even collapse the flight plate if you leave it on too long. I've also had it make the plastic lose some of its smoothness.
I've also had it fail to remove the marker on CE plastic. Must be the saturation effect that jamy mentioned above. :p

Yeah I tried getting it off an Z-Xs I had marked on (pretty bad when you mess up your OWN phone number ) , yes....it was futile. It just makes it look faded.
