They will get to be AMAZED by your distance Matt!!

Not sure what Bobby has in store, well I sortta do, but I am bound to secrecy.

I'm pretty sure the PDGA requires a $25 players pack for each player at an A Tier, so look for several goodies in the package.

Hope to see yah there with all the Queen City peps!

MW, Is that a lefty on that stamp? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

After consulting the experts, it has been determined that it is a righty. The stance looks like a lefty backhand drive follow-thru. However, at that stage of the follow-thru the experts agree that the disc would be much farther away.

What we have here is a right handed Pete putting and trying awful hard not to be called for a falling putt.

Jul 28 2004, 02:40 PM
Just registered! Never played the Sneeky Pete. The Am Nationals were this same weekend. I don't feel like driving all the way up to MI. so I changed my mind.. rather drive 30 min to an A-tier Sneeky Pete! Call me krazy :p but I love those courses.

Oh and good call on the flyer Dave (as u r amphibious). It does appear to be a righty throw. Are u gonna make it to this tourney?

so, here's a dumb question... why is it called "Sneeky Pete" instead of "Sneaky Pete?" Please forgive my ignorance

Nothing ignorant about the question at all man. My father actually built the courses out at Cedarock, and when he decided he wanted to run sanctioned events, he was thinking of names to call the event. The dates for the event were 10/30-31 or 10-31/11-01 something like that. Anyway he had a friend called Pete back in his 82nd Airborne years that would always mess with him and the other guys in the platoon. Always Sneeking around, playing jokes. With that said, he decided to name the event Sneeky Pete. He knew it was spelled incorrectly, but intended it to be because he like the alternative spelling. So it stuck.

I wish we still had the date for later in the fall. The tournament was suppose to showcase the course in it's fall beauty. Cedarock during the peaking of the leaves is absoultely AMAZING!

So that's it. Thats how the name came about. People still to this day, go "hey man you spelled Sneeky wrong"

TX is a long way away, but we would love to have you come play in the event! At least buy a CFR! :D

thanks for the invite, but unfortunately, NC is a bit too far... I have the vacation time, jsut not the plane fare :( I saw the "alternate spelling" and assumed there was some joke i was missing out on ;) Thanks for clarifying.

Rodney Gilmore
Aug 12 2004, 02:21 PM
It starts at 2:30. It's 1 round singles tag match. Grasse has more tags available so thats no problem. we rotate courses too. This weekend and next weekend will be in the open (short pads one week longs one week)then the woods. There are 2 ace pools, 1 per course so if 1 gets hit there's still reason to come back in a week or two.

Jake L
Aug 12 2004, 02:25 PM
Is there a cost for the tags? Or is it included in entry fee? Thanks

Rodney Gilmore
Aug 12 2004, 02:47 PM
I think Grasse charges $5 for a tag but they are cool. They are stamped brass. Tim McNeil makes em at his shop so the $5 covers his time and materials.

Aug 23 2004, 02:15 PM
We've had a couple of guys go in Scuba Steve style before and come back w/ a few discs. But it was done Commando Scuba Steve style. After 5 w/ no rangers or fishermen around. Technically theres no swimming allowed in the pond. The water's pretty nasty anyway. Yes I know this firsthand. About2 months after I started playing I threw my favorite driver in the pond and it just floated. Don't get naked and jump in there in the beginning of November. It's a really bad idea.

MTL21676
Aug 23 2004, 02:21 PM

OK - or a really bad tailwind or a bad skip

Rodney Gilmore
Aug 23 2004, 02:37 PM
It depends on what you throw. I hear the pond has a taste for Valks and Vikings.

Aug 23 2004, 02:52 PM
It's usually the skip:mad: Low, left side, hyzering out, and skipping between the 2nd and 3rd Oak. Skipping of the flat section and right into the pond.

I have also thrown it way to high, with not enough turn over. Results, It falls out of the turnover and plops into the water.

They used to have a whole row of Cedars that would prevent a lot of the shots from going into the pond at all. They cut down every single one of them, now you have less of a chance if you sail it right to stay dry.

Still one of the best holes around. Righty Hole!! :D

MTL21676
Aug 23 2004, 02:52 PM
I would believe that - they are flippy which goes towards the waters (unless ur backwards like MW). You should always throw something stable on that hole - ur not going to 2 it, so why should u throw ur max distance disc and risk it flipping over when you can garuntee urself a 4 a worst and possiably a three - just doesn't make since to me

Jake L
Aug 24 2004, 09:55 AM
If you were able to get a camping spot, there still should be spots open for the tourny. Cedarock and Wellspring can hold 190+ players, and I think there are less than twenty camping spots.

Aug 24 2004, 10:08 AM
Glad to hear your coming! Plenty of room. Pay Pal is also an option for those that dont want to use snail mail. Dig up the link on the first post of this thread.

We cant quite hold 190+ players. We have 1 course with 18 holes, and one with 20 holes. So we could hold 100 players on the Cedarock golf course, but we would then have 10 extra players when they went to throw Wellspring. Do you think 6 and 7somes would be OK with everyone? :D

Course is looooooking INSANE!!! I dont recall it looking this nice since it's been put in! Unreal! Should be a great event!

I can't imagine why we'd cut it down to less than 20. As far as green or yellow I honestly don't remember. I can tell you that on holes 13 and 16 it's the pad on the right and on hole 6 it's the pad in the clump of trees. Other than that the baskets are in the long placements. If you go out to practice and there are no course maps in the box at the bulletin board try to find a ranger, they should have extra scorecards in the office.

Dunno if I will be able to play this weekend. I think I strained a tendon/ligament today.

After Kentwood Monthly, I went to Cedar Hills and played a round from the longs. I was on hole 9 and I wanted to throw my illusion to see how it flew. Well in trying to keep it flying straight, I overthrew and messed up my shoulder.

I finished the round though, albeit in pain, and shot a 56.

Well I already took the Illusion back out of my bag and put it in the "to sell" box. I was just looking for another stable disc that I could get some distance on. Rodney emailed me and we are going to work out a trade for some starfires etc.

I will be playing this weekend(even if I have to throw left handed). I went out to Cedar Hills to test to see if I could throw, and I could with about 75 percent of my max D.

All 20 holes at Cedarock will be played.

I am assuming that since the pins are in the long position, that one of the rounds will be played from the yellow tees. And the other round from the pro tee(whatever color that is)

Got tons of work left over from my WVO trip. If I can get it done, I will play. If not I wont play. The weather looks great! The course looks great, should be a great weekend for some exciting golf! This is probably already stated somewhere, but I don't have time to read the whole thread. What is the order of courses that MPO are playing on Sat and on Sun? ANd which courses are Men's Adv playing, in what order? and what is par for each course? I'm psyched to see par for Sat listed as 114! At last people are facing reality that par is NOT always 54!!

Thirty-eight holes total (18 inside, 20 outside) x 3 stroke/hole = par 114.

Great Tourny!

Congrats MTL? Maybe 2 wins in back to back weeks? I am just happy I can say that I was actually beating you after the first round.

Sorry I couldn't stay for the awards ceremony, but my right shoulder was screaming at me to go home and ice it down.

To everyone that I got to play it, it was a pleasure watching some of NC's best advanced golfers in action.

Thanks Rodney for the hookup on the discs.

To TT...thanks for the support.

MTL.....thanks for the advice you gave me during warmups.

Yandell is always going to be 35 feet away(even if he is on the tee).

Drew and Matt congrats on making it to a playoff hole and congrats to Matt for his final INT AM win.

How about this...

I ace the throw off for the discatcher sport, and I come away with nothing. C'est la vie.

Thanks to all the groups I played with, you made the tourny enjoyable. Sorry it seemed like I was the one that was pulling the scores on the cards down.

Congrats to Denice Kiser for her victory in Adv Women.

And congrats to which woman it was that had her first career ace!

I wish I could have been there... I've played Adv and Pro in NC for years and I can honestly say that I've never played in a bad group. NC, VA and TN just have good people!!!

Congrats to those who put on this A-Tier and did work on Cedarock Park. Congrats to those who cashed! If you have never played in NC, take a look at the Open 'middle of the pack'. Positions 10-20 could be the TOP TEN IN ANY OTHER REGION IN THE COUNTRY.

I want to encourage all of you to drop Bobby a line by snail mail and let him know how much you enjoyed the tournament and how much you appreciate his efforts. As MTL mentioned, he doesn't read the message board (at least not often), so he's not going to see the expressions of thanks posted here.

I had the opportunity to talk with Bobby during and between rounds on Sat., and he expressed disappointment at the low Pro turnout (overall, not just MPO), and mentioned several times that he didn't think he would TD again next year. My sense is that part of that sentiment springs from not being able to play due to the logistical demands of TDing an A-tier, but I also got the sense that he wasn't sure it was worth all the time and energy he put into it.

I wasn't able to get out Sunday to know how things went, but I haven't heard of any controverseys (unlike in previous years), and from what I was able to observe on Sat., this year's Sneeky Pete and Pro-Am were by far the best organized and smoothest running Burlington tournaments in the past five years. I think Bobby deserves a fair share of the credit for that (kudos to Mike Grasse and Mike Watson as well), and I hope those of you who share my assessment will take the time to let Bobby know his efforts are appreciated.

great post Felix.

I think that the fact that this tournament was ran so smoothly as a first year A Tier is a compliment by itself. With the problems of the past included, the quality of this tournament is higher.

Bobby did seem a little unhappy with lack of help, but hedid one awesome job

jefferson
Sep 14 2004, 12:15 PM
only problem that i heard about was pertaining to hole 12 at cedarrock on sunday. all holes were played from the shorts except this hole. when the ams played sunday morning, 2 straight groups asked me if the group in front of them was playing the wrong pads (they were on hole 11), i replied that they should play the pads marked by the red flags as specified. local chris scarlett seconded my notion. as far as i know, no group in the 3rd round threw from the wrong pad. apparently when the pros played cedarrock in the 4th round, one group believed we were supposed to play all shorts, and they moved the red flags to the short pad on 12 and played the hole. i think they realized their mistake after finishing the hole, took their strokes and returned the flags to their proper location. from what i have heard, this was covered in the players meeting on sunday morning, and correct pads were marked with red flags.

obviously, this was not even close to anything that happened in previous years. this was by far the best run Sneeky Pete i have been to, and i look forward to attending next year. hopefully, bobby will continue to run it and it will remain an A-tier. i appreciate all the work bobby and club did for this successful event.

congraTTs to all the winners especially McCracken, Dee-Nice, and MtL for their first A-tier wins. MtL has gone from self-proclaimed best am without a win to another NC bagger, welcome. also to TThe Pro for another amazing comeback after a yahn-like start.

This tourny was sooo much smoother than any other Burlington event I've ever been to. It did seem like Bobby was haulin arse everwhere in that gator, and we all appreciated it. The shade tent was crucial, as was running out of gas with the Notorious JMI on the way Sunday morning, big thanks to KD for getting us there.
Congrats to MTL for finally winning one, after the "lay-up" on 18 I was questioning his sanity, but he prevailed in the end.
Also wanted to say it was fun playing with Adam "Vonsmokinstems" Vanderslizzle, kids got game and said this was his last Adv. tourny, not bad for eating out of a straw for the last 45 days! good luck in the pro's!!!
