Hey all--

My buddy that I reguarly play with picked up an Aerobie Epic driver disc the other day, but he didn't like it very much and handed it over to me. I've had immediate decent success, mainly because I think the "lip" on the bottom stretches about an inch to the inside, and it makes me much more comfortable with my still-evolving grip.

My question is this: the lip isn't a consistent width. At its shortest point, there's about an inch of lip, but on the other side, there's about two inches. Does this affect the flight characteristics? Is it supposed to be like that? Seems like it would create an odd spin, but I've gotten straighter (and a little longer) shots with this than my Shark or EliteZ. Odd?

Ok, that's my long question. Let me know what you guys think, and thanks!

that disc is a piece of crap, the only thing its good for is thumbers into a headwind. i can thumb an Epic with a decent headwind about 400 feet. backhand they arent worth squat. so try throwing it overhand youll love watching the crazy corkscrew/hyzer.

Like your friend who gave that disc to you, I bought one to see what the hoopla was all about and disappointed when it turned out to be the worst thing I ever purchased for this sport. I am sure it works well for some but I could not find a use for it in my bag.

I agree with Ryan and Johnny, this disc is not a good disc, ... for discgolf anyway. I bought one when they came out last year. I cant answer your direct question, I think the lip are between 16-24mm wide and it flies quite a long distance if you get a good throw . What I have found out though is that its very unpredictable, the Epic goes from extremely overstable to understable. If you hit a three or something ever so lightly it will change character !! You can tune it by bending the rim but thats hnothing you can do during a round in a tournament. Nothing to recommend!

Hm. Ok. I do get more distance, but I think you're right, I was getting fustrated with consistency and not sure if I should blame myself or the disc. Now I have an excuse! :D

But like I said before, I like the size of the lip. Are there suggestions you guys have for discs with that sort of lip that are good for beginners? As I use my Leopard and Shark more and more, I get more comfortable with getting them to do what I want, but I haven't gotten that from a long-range driver yet.

Let me know, and thanks again everyone.

Try a Champion Beast or a Z-Wildcat next for a distance driver. I find these discs to be similar in stability to a Leopard, they are just faster and get out there a little further.
