Bring your sunscreen, waterbottles, and sunglasses and experience disc golf like you've never seen it before. Camelot Adventure Lodge, 18 miles west of Moab, UT, on the banks of the Colorado River is now offering disc golf as one of its amenities. An 18 hole course, with dual tees and DISCatcher Pro targets, playing at an estimated SSA of 56, is ready for your adventure. The course plays 6,815 ft. from the blue tees and 5,300 from the reds with two par 5 holes and six par 4's. There have been a few touring pro's stop by and the reviews are great!

Rambling across high desert terrain, through box canyons and into the famous slickrock country of Southern Utah, this course will test your psyche as well as your course management skills. With only a few trees to work with, the design takes advantage of beautiful sandstone formations, balanced rocks, and amazing vistas to awe the visitor.

Day play is $5.00. Wonderful accommodations are available. The trip out by road is incredible, but requires something more substantial than the family sedan (Call for detailed directions). Jet boat trips down the Colorado River can be arranged by calling the Lodge at 435-260-1783.

And oh, yeah, it's called Camelot not because of any connection with King Arthur. They have camels...and you can ride them.

There are a few pictures up on their website, with more coming: Camelot Adventure Lodge (http://www.camelotlodge.com/adventures/discgolf.html).

Jon,
That course is one of the coolest my family has ever played and Terry and Marcie are some of the nicest people. I don't have alot of time right now so I will post again later but I do need to ask whats up with hole 7?

Course immediately went into my top 3. Very cool.

...

Hole 7 is what Chuck Kennedy calls a circular hole and what John Houck calls a spiral. I had a very cool tee area and a very cool putting surface. The trouble was, they were only 85 feet apart. The landing area below the tee made sense, so I put a mando-to-the-left pole there. A righty anhyzer/lefty hyzer can get you past the pole and up onto the hillside with a second shot at the basket and a chance at birdie 3. Otherwise its a fun 4 and sets you up for "The Catcher's Mitt," #8.

Thanks for the kind words. That course was a three day design project in February, installed in two days in March. Good help from the owners, who are some of the nicest people I've worked with, and until I showed up with a portable basket and some discs, had never seen disc golf other than on a website. They wanted it, they got it. And I think they got it good.

I was just jabbing you on hole 7. :D Once we figured it out it was OK. In fact I got a three on it.
I do think you did a wonderful job designing to fit with the rock formations and elevation changes. In fact hole 13 is one of the coolest holes I've ever played and 14 is one of the best under 200' holes in disc golf.

I am telling everyone I know that if they are ever near Moab they have to play the course. You are right about the family sedan not making it all the way in but you can drive a minivan(carefully) to within 2.3 miles and hike in. It is worth the effort.

My wife Michelle and I got married at the Camelot Lodge In Moab in September of 2000. Marcie and Terry were our witnesses for the 5-person ceremony that took place in their "back yard" on a sand bar on the Colorado River. While there I told Marcie and Terry about Disc Golf and how fantastic their property would be for a Disc Golf course. Congrats Jon on pulling it off!! Absolutely no doubt this place has to be the most amazing place in the U.S. for a course. I've done a fair share of traveling and the view from their lodge is unlike anything I've ever seen. The red rocks that tower up from the lodge are spectacular. Anyone that has the chance should take a vacation there. My wife and I packed our mountain bikes up and had them UPS'ed to a Moab bike shop. Then they put them together for us and we loaded them into a Jeep and drove the 18 miles to the lodge. The drive from Moab takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours. It is fun and a bit scary. By all means get yourself to this place!!!

Jon....I thought I saw somewhere that there will be a tournament at the Camelot Lodge in early October. Is this correct? I'll be in Colorado for a wedding and it would be quite cool to attend an event there....

Team Utah has their October Monthly in Moab every year, at a place on the other side of town from Camelot. They take out 27 portable baskets and set up a temp course. They are going to try and have one round out at Camelot as part of it this year. They will need to work out the logistics with the Moore's, as its the same weekend as USDGC and I'll be in Rock Hill.

Should be a good one. I think those boys (and girls) will be surprised. Hope you can make it.

For those of you that have been wondering about disc golf in the desert at Camelot, take a look at the article by Shawn Sinclair in the newest issue of DGWN.
