The website for these discs still states available in the Summer of 2004, but I remember seeing an add for them way back in '03 also and they didn't come out.

Has anyone ever been able to toss one of these yet or have a more definate time on when they will be released?

Discs with Dimples...can't wait to see what that is like!!!!

It has to be better than the last gimmick, the EPIC

I have 2 prototypes, a putter and a driver. Both feel very nice in the hand. They have 2 sets of dimples at different distances from the edge of the disc. The putter flies beautifully. I putt around my yard and throw 150-175ft upshots with it quite often. I really like it. The driver I have is a turnover disc. It feels good in my hand and the realease feels nice, but I just haven't played with it enough to give a valid opinion.

Holgate was nice enough to send me a couple of proto fusion mojos and i put em through some thorough testing last week. i will be polishing this up and posting an official review on my website later this week:
-----------------------------------------------------
i got to throw the mojos today about 30 times on a soccer field. i have to
say that this is one of the purest flying discs i've come across in a long
time. i have a fairly good finesse game and i was able to make it hold just
about any angle up to ~180-200' without much effort.

as for my overall read from it, it was stable enough to hold a hyzer line
and to hold an anhyzer to glide and land flat without catching edge. i
throw bent elbow on most shots (with the exception of max D drives) with a
fairly pure release and rarely turn over approach discs or midranges (unless
i try to). i did make an attempt to flip it over (in the bad accidental
"putter roll" way) and was able to with sufficient velocity but was also
able to throw some fairly nice 270'+ distance rollers.

for more interesting results, i let my friend who is a notorious accidental
putter roller give them a few tosses.

he rolled almost every shot right off the bat. however, i did notice that
his off-axis torque seemed to stabilize very quickly (at least much more
quickly than i was used to seeing) on throws with his normal putt/approach
discs. long story short, i was able to pinpoint the problem that had been
causing his putter turnover for the past several years and an hour later he
was throwing the mojo quite well and agreed they were a very clean flyer.

i only got to throw about a dozen putts from about 15' but my friend and i
played catch with it putting style for about 15 minutes at varying
distances. i'm not sure if it was due to gyroscopics or plastic, but i did
find it to have a bit of undesirable low speed fade when putted flat from
outside 30'ish which may have purely been due to diameter and the necessary
RPM's to keep it stable although i have found a trend with putters in
grippier plastics that they tend to want to fade a little more than the same
molds in stiffer, slicker plastics. it was money from 25' and in though,
and i found it to have strong lift/hover characteritics on the longer putts.
on jump putts i found i could easily clear 60'.

as for more general comments

things i found interesting:
-i was able to throw these up to about 50' longer on a hyzer or anhyzer line
than on a flat line drive.
-every type of shot (aside from flat) i threw with them went approximately
the same distance (~200' give or take 10'), knife hyzers, sweeping hyzers,
big anhyzers, etc. i've had this experience before, but only with a handful
of discs.
-the 170g consistently flew further for me than the 167g.

what i liked:
-when gripping on the dimples, i found it easier to obtain decent snap
without having to add much thumb pressure.
-it was stable enough to hold a straight line drive flight on a hard, slight
nose up throw without flipping over.
-the plastic really responded well to the basket. soft enough to flex a bit
on impact, stiff enough not to rebound out. it hit and dropped. it did
tend to spin out on slight left putts, but not nearly as bad as say an
omega, jk aviar, soft rhyno, etc.
-very nice touch/feel through the flight plate.

what i didn't like:
-there were a limited number of spots on the disc i felt comfortable
gripping.
-it was very finesse oriented... which i actually like, but foresee many
people not liking that part of it.
-i found it difficult to get a gradual roll curve, although this is probably
more due to weakness in my technique.
-it was 30-50' shorter than my usual approach discs (wizards), but i am a
fan of being able to push putter type discs as far as i can distance-wise
(although i recognize that there are different philosophies on this).

things i see that may cause trouble:
-if the disc gets a gouge or bur in your normal grip spot(s) it may become
difficult to throw.
-people who throw with a fan grip may get a lot of drag friction on the
bottom of the flight plate as they clear the dimples.

overall, it was a fun disc to throw and very accurate.

I got a couple in the mail for some test dyes/fly.

I have to agree, what a great flying disc!!! I got out today to try it out for the first time, and I just couldnt miss a putt. Okay I missed two putts, but I finished up -12 for the round!! It held any line I gave it, and man I can sure make it fly straighter than most of my other putters. Thanks Holgate for sending me some for testing!!! Keep the innovations coming!!!

I am not through with testing this disc out yet, but am impressed with how straight this upshot/putter discs works. Thanks to Holgate for shipping me one to test out, the 1st few flights of this disc show you that it is going to go where you aim it.

It would hold a nice anhyzer line, straight or hyzer. The thumb pressure points definately get you thinking about how you hold your current putters and if your current putters already have a nice thumb idention on them, there is definately a spot on this one that is simiilar.

The plastic itself seemed very, very bouncy. I don't know if this is the type that will be used for the final product, but I had alot of putts that hit dead center and bounced right back. I played 54 holes that day and used the putter all day.

While it was so straight that I was still just amazed at it, the bounces were pretty frequent also.

I am going to give it another weekend of testing and will see if beating it in a little makes a difference on how it catches in the chains.

More to come. Thanks CHING!!

Holgate,
I read somewhere about a putter also I think, was it just my imagination or....? Ive use to putt with the Fusion Tank some time ago but you dont get them anymore except on ebay where the prices have escalated.

Do you have any "live" pixs of the Mojo?

Do you set a name for the driver?

Looking forward to get hold of some your discs this summer!! :p

Fusion Mojo is, by all comparitive standards, a putter golf disc profile. I prefer to categorize it more appropriately by function as an Approach Putter, and also because I plan to eventually design a very specific disc for putting..perhaps more of a lob object rather than something that flies..all of which may depend on how target design evolves concurrently.

I'll try to get the website updated with more Mojo information/photos now that we are close to availability.

The first distance driver we have planned will likely be part of a series. At this point it should be subtly obvious that manufacturers change out various mold pieces from a set to create new models with different flight characteristics/stability...we'll simply call it the same name in different versions; ie Velocity, Velocity II, Velocity III, etc.

Simple mistake...the name mojo is trademarked already. I should have rechecked my work.

We advertised the name a couple years ago in DGWN with plans for a new line including a disc called mojo. At that time I researched the availability for trademark conflicts with no results. As it turns out, the registration was filed almost exactly the same time the fuLL page ad came out, but we were never notified of ownership so assumed it was clear.

Juju was planned for another short range model - but fits this just fine. On we go..

SUPER STRAIGHT PUTTER...and GREAT UPSHOT

Jul 29 2004, 01:55 PM
Hey Mike, sorry this took so long.

Mike was kind enough to send me a little Ching care package and I have a few comments.

I have read this thread and constantly see words like "clean" and "pure." Man, this is dead on. This disc is as smooth outta the hand and as pure in flight as any upshot putter type disc I've thrown. Haven't putted with it much, but I've thrown a bunch of upshot style throws with it and back and forth with a friend in a wide open area.

I love the flight path and the way this thing lands. Haven't figured out which of the thumbpads I like best, but the overall feel of the JuJu is awesome. When I throw it on a line with full power, it holds it. When thrown flat and straight with the right technique (hit or miss for me I know) it flies so true its scary.

This is a great feeling, true flying approach disc and I am putting it in the bag for some real time course work.

On another note, I put one in our Famous HCF Raffle O' Wonder at the LOSO this weekend. All the raffle items were on a table on display all weekend long and the most talked about, fondled and asked about item on the table was the Ching JuJu. It certainly generated a lot of interest.

Good luck Mike and keep doing what you do.

Holgate, what is this Supreme Juju? Same disc with another plastic? The specs differs from the Fusion Juju a bit. Ive recieved and tried the Fusion Juju and I like the disc a lot, Im using it as a putter :)

Kjell, Thanks for your support. The CHING Supreme plastic is a translucent, high grade, durable urethane similiar to other dyeable top line blends ( Dr. Dye's Supreme Juju - Dyed Prototype (http://www.drdyed.com/gallery/10-and-up-dye-jobs) ).

As expected, this blend cools differently out of the mold compared to our Fusion plastic. When thrown with a smooth release the variation seems to add a skinch of stability to the flight, so if you want to extend the disc's ideal distance, gain a little confidence throwing into a headwind, or if you play aggressively in the woods, the Supreme plastic may be preferable.

With the recent PDGA Approval, a first run is now scheduled ...availability planned for the holidays.

Aug 30 2004, 04:06 PM
Looking at the dr.dye disc from the link above, I do not see the "thumb pads" on the supreme plastic.

Am I seeing correct or what?

drdyedcom
Aug 30 2004, 06:12 PM
The dyed design doesnt make it easy to see. If you go to that DR DYED JUJU and click on picture for larger pic, then click on the larger pic again and you get a larger than life picture. It is easier to see in that huge pic. For reference to where to look for them: The "blank spot" where there is no dimple, is at the top of the dyed JUJU.

Aug 30 2004, 07:45 PM
holgate, would it be an accurate statement to compare the fusion and supreme plastics to innova's DX and Champion plastics respectively? I do want to give the JuJu a shot and will probably be picking a fusion up soon, but the prospect of further durability AND stability makes me very interested in a supreme juju if that's the case.

I take it we'll see the supreme juju before any other excelerator discs, too?

holgate
Sep 06 2004, 10:37 AM
Hi Cromwell - I believe our Supreme plastic is comparable to Champion (and/or Z) - improved durability with a little less love in the chains. Our Fusion blend is designed more for grip (wet or dry) and impact attentuation...as close as I can recall in similarity to the original Fusion Tanks.

Supreme Juju will be the next release - late this year, as the mold is already finsihed and we've now completed final plastic testing. A (first) driver not too far behind.
