I know I caught a post on the old messageboard from "Gimp" in Houston on the CE Valk runs that was verified by Dave D. I thought we should try to put together a definative list of the Champion Edition runs that are selling on ebay for so much money so nobody gets screwed. I know I've seen Valks on there advertised as 1st runs that clearly are not. This is my loose list to get us started, PLEASE input any knowledge you have on this subject...
1st run-Only came in 2 colors, blue or red, domey and understable, supposedly the best flying run ever!
2nd run-Flat tops, apparently some kind of goof-up with a sudden temperature change caused the domes to collapse. I've seen these in Red, White, and Blue(berry). Uber-stable, I own 2 of these and will probably be buried with them!
3rd run-I never owned one, but heard they were a lot like the first run in flight, but I don't know about plastic or color choices.
4th run-These were the less durable ones that feel a little gummy, also came in many shades including pastels.
5th run-Last of the true CE, these are the slick, stiff daddies that many didn't like at the time, but regret not buying. Not too sure what these flew like, but it was nothing like the previous runs. These also came in plethora of colors.
Please post any insights, pictures, or corrections. My ultimate goal is to have one true list of the CE runs for all to use before plopping down 60$ bucks on a disc so you know what you're getting.

Proto? Came out in late 2000 with the big star-stamp. I only saw light blue and red, with a prismatic-silver hotstamp, with the red ones being far far far more numerous.
1st Run came in more colors than that. Himing was getting a bunch of crap from a nobody for selling, I believe, a white one on eBay. Of all the people in the world to not trust, Himing isn't one of them. So the first run came in at least three colors.
2nd Run: came in more colors than that. I had a 157g teal one that I would throw into *any* headwind. I think they came in that day-glowey yellow too, and a few other colors.
.
.
.
4th Run: Not less durable, just a lot less stable right out of the box. But that makes them go really really far. Some of the gummies came out right about then, but they were really clear 150s. Some heavier gummy ones came out a little later, but I consider the "4th Run" to be the hard opaque Valks that were more understable (and hence better on the unltra long range S-style distance shot) than the previous runs.
Thank you for your input Rhett. I have a question though, do you think there was ever a 5th run? Maybe I'm getting 3rd and 4th runs confused and it was the third run I'm thinking of when I say 4th run. The last run was definately the opaque hard ones with the prior run being the understable ones though. I guess I'll wait and see if anyone else chimes in on this subject... :D
I think there was a 5th run but i am not positive, I know that they had at least 4 colors for the 2nd run though as pointed out before: White, Red, Day-glo and Blueberry. I have about 10-15 of these and love them! But i still like the first runs better. 7 and counting Sam! got you by 4 now! :D :D

adam, we have run a 6th run at least. Just finished. At least for now.
Dave, details please  Also I have a grass green 167 that I have always assumed was a 2nd run as it flew just like the red one I had lost 5 days before. Now that's good karma :D

What a great thread & great disc!! I have 14 CE Valks.
I have a 160-gm CE Valk that is kind of a lavender color -- opaque. Nicest driver I have ever had. Have no idea which run. I wish I had bought a few more at the time. Also had a nice early CE Teebird, but sold it to a friend who was looking for a disk after losing his favorite driver on the course one day. Every time I see him throw it I regret selling it! Man, those CEs were nice discs...
Okay, so I assume the 6th run is newer style Candy and just says "Champion" and not "Champion Edition", therefore there must have been 5 runs of Champion Edition :). So who has more info on the 3rd run then? And if anyone would like to send me samples, please feel free!! :D:D

Although this probably belongs on the "Trader's Row" thread, I am looking for Champion Edition CE Valkyries. I have mint 2004 USDGC CE Rocs to trade for them.
yes it does belong in traders row, unless you want to help define the differences between CE Valk runs, then you're welcome to stay! :D

1st runs were available in more colors than what is thought.
Red being the most common, blue of which maybe a few hundred were run. Then you have the ultra limited other colors, white, grey and a light purple. Only a handful came in these colors. Easiest way to distinguish a first run is not by color but by the flashing on the rim and the high dome.
2nd runs were also available in other colors. I have a ice clear one that I only pull out for very windy days. Distinguish these by the almost concave top rather than color.
4th runs were domier causing them to be less stable but long straight flyers. These seemed to get extra distance without changing your throw.
And no matter what is said here it wont change the perception of ebay buyers who live under the "lie" that all first run CE discs were red. Should have seen the slack I got for the white 1st run CE Teebird I sold on ebay. "but they didn't make 1st run CE Teebirds in white" oh yes they did.
:D
Well, hopefully any future disagreements over these discs can be directed to this thread, I also hope to put together a conclusion with photos and post on the web somewhere for future reference. I also can't believe there's not more info on the third run yet everyone seems to know about the first...Maybe the 3rd run is even more scarce than the first and we're all coveting the wrong run!!

If anybody has a new one of these they want to sell, I'll take it. I prefer white with blue hotstamp, around 171g.

I feel the need to defend myself since I am the "nobody" that called out Himing. Being that I am semi-new to the sport and the names that are associated with it I did not know who Chris Himing was. I asked Dave D if it was a first run and he said no. So I was only doing what i thought was right by calling someone out for listing a disc wrong. (Which happens all the time) I said I was sorry on the board to Chris, and I don't like being called a "nobody." That being said, kiss my *****.

If you hadn't brought this up here, nobody would've remembered that you were the nobody.
Something I believe would be germaine to this thread: The distinction between 'candy' plastic, and the so-called 'indestructable' plastic.
...it seems like 'candy' has come to mean anything non-DX, but I believe it's more specific than that.
...eagerly awaiting that shot of the 'proto' disc!! :p

Here's further proof that I have the best wife in the world:
http://www.socaldiscgolf.org/pix/Curio_small.JPG
The light green and light pink ones that you can't really see are those first gummy 150 CE Valks. So I'm not just showing off, that pic is thread-related! :)
This is just a show-off close-up of the two CE Gazelles and the 01 Roc:

needless to say... those are some sweet valks! :D

I have noticed the word "candy" getting used alot on eBay, but I do not think the seller's have a clue as to what "candy" plastic actually is. Sometimes I'm not very sure myself. I have seen alot of the KC 10x discs from Innova listed as "candy", but I know that they are not the true "candy" plastic. It seems to me this term "candy" gets tossed around by the sellers just like the term "first run" on some of the CE stuff.

I heard the last run of 10X KC plastic discs had the "candy" within the plastic mix, but you'd have to ask Dave or someone in the know.

I have some 10x Teebirds that are a blend of KC and CE plastic. They are very sweet. I assume that candy means the clear plastic.

Thanks for those Valkyrie pictures Rhett, especially the star-stamped 1st run/proto. Those are rare indeed...Also on the candy plastic, one way to discern the truest of CE is the rings that can be seen in the plastic. The newer see-through champion and the taffy (ex:4th run valks) are blends and not pure candy. I also have a pic of a proto dx and pics of some the other runs I'll try to get posted...

Here is a link to all my CE Valks. There are pictures posted in the thread.

It's going to be hard to type through the drool that's all over my keyboard now...Thank you very much for sharing! My only question is how many of these do you actually throw? And what would you do if you lost one?
cevalkyrie
May 11 2004, 10:44 PM
I have thrown 13 of the 15. Some I have traded for and some I have had since I started playing. I have been playing almost 3 years now. I like to practice and throw many shots with the same disc so I can reproduce the same shot every time.
I carry 5 of them in my bag at all times. All vary in weights and stability. When I feel my more stable CE Valks are getting flippy, i'll rotate another into the bag. I will then take the flippy disc and lay it flat in a warm place. In the garage in the summer and near the oven in the winter. That CE Plastic tends to become more stable by doing this (At least that is what I think).
I will continue to play with them until I lose them all or someone offers me a price I cannot refuse. Over time, my throw is changing and i'm using a CE Valk much less than I used to.

I'm fairly new to disc golf and I've picked up a few CE Valks on eBay (guess it's become my addiction!). Many are advertised as 1st run or 2nd run. Some are obvious, others are not. Is this a fair place for me to float some pictures and get feedback from those of you in the know?

Yes. Lets see those pics.
Absolutley, that was a big part of why this thread was started!

When I ordered the 1st run (not the proto star stamp) CE's I got 21 red, and 4 of the light blue. Never got my hands on any other color - so I can't confirm any other as 1st run (from personal experience). All I've got left are 3 of the blue ones - anyone want to trade for some SM rocs? Looking for red, blue, or dark purple run from '91 stiff, flat, up to 173 grams.
