I heard it was an awesome course. Me and my i guess you could call it a team but not really are going up to play it soon. From all i hear it is supposed to be the best course for free. I also heard there are two courses. The Gold and The regular course. Which one is better? Thanks

You heard right!!! It is one of the most awesome courses ive ever played. If im not mistaken, i believe that the Gold course is only played at the USDGC. This is because the Gold consists of the roped off area for out of bounds. It is also much longer than the regular course. Ive never played the original, but it should still be well worth playing.

You can play either course because the additional Gold baskets are usually there. In case it's unclear, it's not two independent courses. The regular course is interwoven with the Gold course. You just decide as you go which sets of holes you want to play at different branching points. The Gold course has the baskets but of course the two miles of rope that narrows the fairways for USDGC isn't there.

Renaissance Original and Gold works the same way with the course interwoven.

All Gold baskets are currently in except for 9 (behind the old house). They were doing some work out there.

I suggest you either get a good map or try and play with a local to figure the courses out. Winthrop is beautiful. However, some of the beauty is due to it's natural landscape. No above ground tee signs are allowed so the signs are flush with the ground and can be a pain to try and find.

Post what dates you are coming and maybe I can meet you and show you around.

Stay tuned for changes to the course layout for this year's USDGC. Holes that will be different are 9, 16, and 17. Keep yourself in the know by checking out the new www.usdgc.com (http://www.usdgc.com)

Latest Course News - July 1st, 2004

They are draining the lake! A construction project has required that the lake be drained, and you can bet, there are a lot of discs that are appearing as the water retreats. I myself have had 4 discs saved from the murky depths of Winthrop Lake just this week!

I made the trip down there after a round at Kilborn in Charlotte on day...I had MAD trouble trying to figure out the layout and wound up only playing like 7 holes before giving up. I tried to follow a couple of guys but they dissapeared. Is there a map anywhere online? i really like the course, or what i saw of it anyway.
