To all the Victorians out there: There will be a mini in Gonzales on Saturday Feb 28. Tee off at 9:30. First round singles, second round random draw doubles. WOMEN are welcome. This Saturday there will be two women, so don't be scared to play! If someone could please tell Bruce T. and Tamara, I would appreciate it. Hope to see you guys and gals there.

Feb 26 2004, 12:17 PM
Cool! A long overdue thread for the Victoria course, instead of a once a year tourney thing.

Thanks Danielle! :)

This is one of my favorite courses anywhere and I can't wait to play it green for the first time at the ZLT10 there this summer.

Now that they have a thread, all we have to do is buy those Victoria boys computers and teach 'em how to use 'em. :D

LIVE OAK WEEKEND! (OCTOBER 30TH AND 31ST)

Remember the big Live Oak weekend (just outside of San Antonio), is the weekend after states. The ace pot was not hit at Brooks, so there will be an estimated $750 ace pot available on a great course with MANY ace holes. Attendance should be high as there is a ton of local support and Austin players will make the short trip down as well. The next day we will hold a Big Money Doubles Series as well. This is the weekend after Texas States, so save your pennies so you can make the trip! The DiscGolfStore.com GCCS event is Saturday the October 30th with BMDS being October 31st.

DGCCS information can always be found at www.TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com. (http://www.TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com.)

LIVE OOOOOOOAK!!!!

Live Oak is coming up this weekend with sanctioned singles on Saturday and the unsanctioned Big Money Doubles Series on Sunday. Early registrations are going great and with the $445 carry over ace pot from the first three DiscGolfStore.com GCCS events, the ace pot should be close to $750 for the day!

For anyone who needs a hotel for the night, the Comfort Inn has rooms ranging from $59 to $69 depending on Triple A membership etc. I am told it is very nice and has a free breakfast and a pool. (Phone # 210 659-5851, 200 Palisades drive, 78148, Directions from I-10 from Houston, take 1604 right/north, go 7 miles and turn right on Palisades and you are there - - the internet maps steer you wrong apparently).

Directions to the course: NE of San Antonio on I-35, take Judson Rd. or Toepperwein exit to Leafy Hollow Dr, which leads into City Park. 1st tee at the end of park road.

Tournament central will be set up in the pavilion near hole 1.

Hope to see you all there!

Hitchcock Report

The last DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series event in Hitchcock went great with 65 players on a pretty day. A huge thank you goes out to the local Brooks players who helped set up the course and coordinated the 3 extra holes. Over the first three events we have had 112 different players and we have not even started the swing over to Victoria, Round Rock and Live Oak.

We have had some confusion with the players packs. Each AM at EVERY event gets a players pack. Please see us during lunch or after the second round to pick it up at each event. These packs are available through the generous donations of our donors and raffle ticket sales.

In the Open division, Alex Huges drove over again from Austin and took the division by one over local pro Michael Ynfante by one shooting a 119. The big story of the day came from the Advanced division where Brian Boo Pearson beat not only the Advanced division, but EVERY division with a smoking 115 on the day. The estimated ratings for Boos rounds came out to 989 and 991. Matt Hall (121) and Keith Vest (124) took second and third.

In the Advanced Masters division Cecil Larkin (130) came from 4 strokes back to beat Steve Dufrane and Jake Walsdorf by two. DeAtra Edwards (151) won the Advanced Womens division and Jenn Daigle (170) took the Recreational Womens division.

Intermediate was won by Marty Cooper (129) by two over Jaymie Perry and James Bailey. Jaymie had the hot round of the day in the division with 61 during the 2nd round but it was not enough to come back for the victory. The large Recreational division was won by Dan Showman (133) by three over Russell Carmichael and five over Steve Bachtel.

Thank you to everyone who came out!

So who all is playing from Vtown? Trying to figure out how much chili to make. We will have one very large container of adult malted beverage for your enjoyment.

I have a thought on the format. What about 1 semi-serious stroke round of 18 in the morning, eat some chili, play some games and then play something totally non-serious for the 2nd round. Something like Best or Worst Shot Doubles, F*** Your Buddy (we have cards) or some other crazy game.

Let me know what you think or any ideas. This is all about having lots of fun and raising some much needed coin for the Food Bank.

BTW, I have received our Ice Bowl Merchandise and the Clear, Full Color ZE XSs are SWEEEEEEET!

Did I mention FREE BEER?

1st Round: Stroke play, 2 divisions. No payout, but cool prize for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in both divisions.

2nd Round: Doubles, low score + high score pairs. Probably best shot or alternate shot. If possible, I think it would be cool let all 2nd round players decide the the type of play. No payout planned, but we could do one if enough want to buy in.

$1.00 per round gets you into the Ace Pot. Only one $200 ace pot will be up for grabs. If a RDGC member gets an Ace, they will be paid $200. If a non-member gets an Ace, they will receive the money in the pot for that round. If no one gets an Ace, then we will have a CTP for everyone that paid $1.00.

Feb 14 2005, 01:35 PM
I'm so glad I make the trip down from Houston to try out this course; it was well worth it!

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first course I've played in Texas with concrete tee pads. The difference is significant! With seemingly softer soil, higher traffic, and flat terrain, most natural tee pads I've played in Texas are muddy messes, that are under water more often than not. The ample concrete tees at Victoria were a refreshing change! I wish that more course maintainers and park comissioners realized that concrete tees can make a course world class that might otherwise not be, and the lack of permanent tees can spoil the golfing experience of an otherwise outstanding design.

The're a nice variety of holes at Riverside Park. There are some easy deuces, some multi-shot/par four holes, and some "Texas-sized" par threes that are in the middle. I really liked holes two, six, fourteen and sixteen because they required placement drives and long approaches to score birdie threes on. The signature hole 16 (The Beast, as the locals called it) is about 600-650 feet in length with the OB road bordering the entire left side and the Guadalupe river lining the entire right side. It plays through scattered trees and is even more narrow than it looks; I was happy to escape this hole with a four. Watch out for armadillos around the polehole!

I thought the depression where holes 8,9 and 10 play is an especially pretty section of the course. Holes 8 and 10 are good examples of "tweener" holes; I know Texas boys can throw far but those holes seem too long to get deuced and too short to call them anything more than par three.

There's a lot of short grass at this course and rollers worked well on many holes. Though some local punks have wrecked a few, there's also professional tee signs on all the holes that are a very nice touch. This course is so nice that it's tough to find any faults with it other than the close proximity of the park roads on many holes - I always worry about novices not waiting to throw even though cars are approaching. Also, the Guadalupe river may singlehandedly keep DX plastic sales in business because of its close proximity on holes seven and twelve. They are both short "pooch shots" but the polehole lies precariously close to the edge. The dropoff is steep, and the water deep and murky. If your disc goes over the edge, you're NOT getting it back.

Big thanks to Jason Terry for his guidance with the course. Rest assured that it is in fantastic shape, with standing water only on hole five. You've got a great layout down there and I hope you get a fantastic turnout at the tournament next weekend. The 2005 Victoria Open should definitely be one of the best events this year in Texas!

Fellers clubs consist of different personalities. And it makes for a very challenging relationship. But differences is needed for a club to grow.
You all have done some great things down there and have a bright future. Maturity and respect is important, (I speak from experience)........going ons of club biz dosen't go public ....EVER!

It's all good, this person just did some unethical things towards the club. It won't stop the growth and positivity of the majority!!! Everybody will get over it and learn from mistakes. Let's all have a blast at the Open and be happy that there is one and that some people work very hard and spend alot of time and money to make it happen. So just show up and have some fun. That's all anyone wants!!!! :D

The Texas Womens Championship 2007 is April 21 & 22; we are interested in Texas club participation of this event. In the past clubs sponsored with merchandise and with man power. We want to see this continue. We want to challenge each club to send the most women from their area. We are trying to break the women only attendance record and what better place than Texas. We can use volunteers to escort, disc golf merchandise for ctps, a Texas size player packs, and anything surrounding lady golf. Something I would like to see our club sponsored girly stations. The club could pick a hole to set up a canopy with water, face wipes, candies and club hospitality towards the players.
The question is not if you are interested, but how you are interested in help.
Contact myself or Ed Coffey to work out the logistics. This is our ladies weekend. So lets honor them with our support! Let us know your ideas, we maybe the tournament directors, but the event is Texas owned.

The staff for Texas Womens Championship is challenging every club in Texas to be a part of the Girly station program for TWC 2008 April 26 & 27. Last year Live Oak set the bar for Girly stations and spurred a friendly competition between the clubs. This years winner will be judged by the players and will receive a lil something special for the best girly station during the event to be used for the winning clubs discretion.
So come join us in showing the ladies what Texas hospitality is all about. Please contact Ed or me of your commitment to a girly station.
We are also need artist for the inner color fund raiser disc; follow the Innova Inner-color format. If you want to see your art on a disc and submit to Ed or me
