Still in the grips of winter but we'll give it another shot. On Sunday 22 February we will be hosting a fundraising tournament in Yadkinville to help pay for these beautiful new Discatchers. Baskets have been installed on all 18 holes with most in new pin positions that are considerably more challenging than anything you have seen in Yadkinville before. We have also poured alternate pin positions on a number of holes. There will be two rounds of random draw doubles with new pairings for each round. Entry fee is $10. The top two finishers will split 25% of the total entry fees (#1 sixty percent, #2 - 40 percent). There will be CTP's awarded on all holes. Collectible discs will be for sale as well. Donations to the basket fund will, of course, be accepted. Player meeting - 9:30. Tee time - 10:00. Contact person - John Glen 336-682-8141. Come on out and bring a boatload of friends. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

And, as always, the invites go out to all you Charlotte and Raleigh boys who seem to rarely venture out of your hidey holes. We are only an hour from Charlotte and just a little over that from Raleigh. Admittedly both cities have some fine courses but they don't have a Yadkinville course. Come see us. Jamie

John Glenn, Bear Griffen and I moved baskets into alternate pin positions yesterday 1 February so we could get a feel for them and do some fairway "tweaking" with the pole saw. For the most part these alternates as somewhat "easier", but in some cases they are just different. Give them a try and let us know what you think. Jamie

Have you ever noticed how many really good folks are involved in disc golf? Just got in from Raleigh and a round at Cedar Hills with "Diamond" Dave McQuay and a heyhowdy with Walt Haney. Dave/Discraft and Walt donated an armload of discs, bags and banners to the Yadkinville basket fund cause. Larry Leonard was there and kicked in a disc as well. Thanks so much guys. Now, come on over and see us.

Back home after a right productive afternoon at Y'ville. Bear Griffin moved in two concrete benches
to the tee pad on #6. Also got initial brush cutting and pole sawing done on the long tee pad for #6.
The next time you are in the park look uphill from the benches on six to the cleared area, then take a
walk up there and look at the line to the basket. It's way cool, in a twisted sort of way. Just another
ace run. Don't forget about the sunday 22 February basket fundraiser. Looking forward to seeing you
there.

And Mookster thanks for the kind words. We have a great deal of work left to do, but I think we have
made a good start. At the old Y'ville course it was kind of nice to be the only one on the course but
it is much nicer to see the parking lot with ten or twelve cars in it in February due to the good word of
mouth the new layout is getting. And again, thanks to you and Super Dave and all the other High Point boys for the basket and continued support. Jamie

Very good work day yesterday with Bryant Austin bearing the brunt of the work constructing the long tee pad on #6. Any of you who have swung a four pound maul on landscape spikes know what I mean. JG and I pitched in digging, scraping, chopping and sawing. Thanks to a timely arrival of a mulch load we even got the pad usable. The addition of this tee and benches placed by Bear on Sunday will make this the "signature" hole of the new Y'ville. Yagottaseeit.

Finally got a day warm enough to remove the old number decals and put on the new for the newly configured course. Still need to do some mulching on a couple of teepads and shuffle some baskets around but we are basically ready for the basket fundraising tournie this Sunday 22 February. Nice clear skies and mid 50's are forecast so make your plans to be there.

Good morning all. A little slow getting here with our ISP denying our existence temporarily. A beautiful day and a very enjoyable inaugural tournament. Thanks Tim, all the High Point contingent and Plank Road boys for loading up the cars and helping to make this first fund raising effort a success. Mooky, wish you could have made it, but a big thanks for sending the untapped ace pool money from Mooky's cup. Likewise, thanks to Plank Road for the contribution. Another big thanks goes to Bruce Whitley for his hundred dollar contribution to the cause. Bear "I was looking for my hat" Griffin did a super job in his first stint as a TD. Thanks also to Bryant Austin, Brock Stimpson, John Glenn, James Wallace, and Ken Sizemore for the help in moving baskets to alternate pins between rounds. I'm sure I am forgetting someone but a blanket thanks to EVERYONE who came and helped. And none of us should forget that all of this was possible due to the generosity and kindness of Harold Duvall of Innova.
As TS said Doug "Little D" Branscom was on fire yesterday. We played the first round with all pins in the longest possible positions. The team of Branscom and Brian Bennett came in at nine under. The old mans team of James "the Mole" Wallace and myself were also in at nine under after a smokin' start of seven birds in our first eight holes. Those of you who have seen me play will be surprised to find that I actually was a contributing factor on the team and James' putting was throwing sparks from the chains on the windy, hilltop holes. In the second round with the pins moved in to the shortest possible positions and CTP's up for grabs Doug continued his hot flicking, this time teamed with Mike Edwards, to card a sixteen down and take first overall. Mike took second overall.
After most everyone had loaded up and headed toward the barn nine of us were still standing around and grinning and apparently not quite worn out enough, so we played a round of triples to simmer down a bit before pointing our own cars home. During that round John "a day late" Glenn tossed a 2002 Dayglow Pink Champion Roc into the heart of the #9 basket for the only ace of the day. Aces have been rare since installation of the baskets. To the knowledge of us locals there have only been three - John's yesterday, Brock Stimpson's crash through the pines on #5 last Thursday, and my own ace on #2 last fall.
An awful lot of good golf went on yesterday and for those not mentioned I apologize. An awful lot of good fun went on as well and for those not mentioned in that regard, your welcome. Thanks a lot everybody.
Great job on Sunday to all. Loved the new long placements. Can't wait for more action in Yadkinville.
Got to witness JG Ace run. A nice way to end a great day.

More action already Dave. Michael Gregory noticed a new line on #17. He had JG take a look at it on Monday. John in turn showed it to me on Monday in near darkness. Super, super line which we were so excited about John moved in new timbers on Tuesday to start throwing it and get input from everyone else. On Wednesday I cut one smallish dying dogwood and one small poplar to open up a longer look on the same line. We temporarily marked it with timbers as well. Get by there and take a look. Not only does it give a different line to #17 it eliminates safety issues from folks teeing off on #16.

Meant to get a report in here yesterday, but the power was out until this morning from the big windstorm at dark Sunday. No basket damage at the park. We were lucky. Phil Martin, the park director, said their batting cage, constructed of treated 4x6's, was snapped off. Anyway, before the wind on Sunday we had one incredible work and play day. Park workers pulled out the six remaining too small concrete pads on Thursday necessitating a big push effort to get those pads leveled and mulched and back in use. Thanks to everyone who showed up and pitched in it only took 2-3 hours to get done and on the course ourselves. It was very gratifying to see probably fifty people on the course Sunday afternoon in the good weather preceding the storm. Keep your eyes on this thread. We are presently working out a date for the next fundraiser. Conflicts for first Sunday in April??

Jamie, any word yet on first sunday in april? will this be a singles, or another double random draw for dougie to pull two heayweights. I did hear from both his partners that DOUGYYYYYY BRanscom played very well and made some key saves and putts that put both teams in the positions they were. just messin with doug. is the course set up in the long or short for this weekend? thanks for your hard work out there.

Mar 12 2004, 12:40 PM
Hey there Tim. Yup the next fundraiser will be Sunday April 4th, probably random doubles again, for everyone except "Little D" Branscom. He will be assigned a partner for both rounds. We've got our eye on a local resident of a long term care facility that John Glenn hooked us up with. According to John once he's had his daily meds he's good to go for at least a couple of hours. But since there will be foursomes Dougy should be able to recruit some help in pushing his chair for the second round.
The course is currently in the long pin positions and will stay that way through the weekend. I'm on call, so I'll be in and out, but some of de'boyz will be there. As for the thanks for all the hard work, de nada. We are all basically self serving SOB's who just wanted a better place to play.

Got to play Y'ville, right after the baskets went in, I thought it couldn't get any better! Then I went back 2 weeks later, I enjoyed the new pins and tees even more! Big Ups for all the hard work your doing, Y'ville has always had a scenic course, but now with the tone poles gone its even more scenic. Hullo there Mr. Spurgeon. Since we have quite a few "alternate" pin positions that will be poured by then, we will probably be exposing y'all to a lot more newness at Y'ville. Pretty much all of the newer alternates are as long or as difficult as the "longs" we played last month. My feeling is to expose everyone to as much of the new stuff as possible. We just can't seem to stop the Mole (James Wallace) from digging holes. Give the boy a cold beverage of his choice and you just eventually have to take the hole digger away from him. Amazing for such a skinny old dude. Looking forward to playing with you guys again.

Ok, it's on for next Sunday, 4 April. Format same as last with random draw doubles each round and different pin positions each round. Several new pin positions since last month. Also Bear Griffin has spent the better part of the weekend turning the teepad to #13 into something of a disc golf oasis. I won't even try to describe it. Ya gotta see it and ya gotta know Bear. Player meeting at ten. Don't forget the time change. Once again everything goes to the basket fund. Come enjoy.

T.S., I'll be working some more on the #17 teepads on Wednesday, particularly the short pad, hauling out a few loads of the coarse sand and replacing it with good packable dirt and a little mulch. All the long pad needs is a thin layer of mulch and a few hundred feet tromping on it. Both are pretty cool positions. Jamie

Looks like the weather for Sunday's Basket Fundraiser is going to be perfect - low 60's and clear skies. Don't forget the time change. Got enough of a break in the rain yesterday afternoon to get the short tee on #17 in good shape. The long tee won't be ready for this weekend however. The gully-washing shower we got pointed out an inadequacy of the pad position. For the time being it will only be used in dry weather and casual rounds. When we get to the pad pouring stage an elevated concrete pad will solve the problem. Catch you all Sunday.

A good time was had by all in the wind at Yadkinville yesterday. Twenty plus braved the 25-35 mph winds with old hand Shane Stevens being tied by newbie Chuck Hanes at a combined nine under par for the two rounds. Shane was steady as she goes in both rounds while Chuck took advantage of a fortuitous pairing with young gun Brock Stimpson in the second round. Brock burned a few worms out of their burrows with laser beam upside down pancake drives to combat the wind. Right impressive. "Little D" Branscom fought a brave fight in the wind but to no avail. On the other hand his lack of elevation kept him under the worst of the gusting. Low center of gravity and all that. No aces, so the pool rolls over. All in all, pretty brutal wind conditions for around here. Thanks to all who came and all who helped. Bottomline, we are a tad closer to having the baskets paid for.

Everything's a go for Saturday afternoon and Saturday night the 15th of May. 4 p.m. player meeting with tee off immediately thereafter. Two rounds of singles with second round being a GLOW round. For the most part the glow round will be played with pins in short positions. As with all these basket fundraisers the toll is ten bucks. Come on out and make an evening of it with us in Yadkinville. There won't be multiple bands and live music but I'm sure Bear could be persuaded to bring out his boom box. Speaking of Bear, he and Adam Clifton teamed for a scorching 18 under par in yesterdays Piedmont Random Doubles Tour round at Horizon's Park in Winston Salem. And it was a definite team effort with both Adam and Bear making impressive drives and a couple of long putts each. It was very close to being 19 under par with Adam smacking the badge on top of the basket on I think #13, the around the barn shot. Again, come on out and enjoy the GLOW of Yadkinville.

Sorry to be so slow getting back on here after the fundraiser. I only hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. The daylight round was played with all pins in long placements and the scores reflected that fact. Bear has all the scores so this is from memory but I'm sure Shane Stevens was leading Pros and Hugo was leading Ams. Between the two rounds everyone pitched in, got a fire going and chowed down on dogs and burgers. Then a pretty much perfect evening for glow - no moon, lots of stars, even more fireflies and a good bunch of folks. As has already been mentioned Cliff Hutchens aced #14 in the glow round which was also a CTP hole so he took the hundred buck ace pool and the CTP for #14. A few minutes later Shane Stevens and his group heard Shane's disc hit chains on #14 only to walk up to the basket to find his disc on the ground and the CTP bag already tied to the light stick from Cliff's ace. You're in good company Cliff. Rumor has it that Shane's first ace ever was in a glow tournie as well. And Patrick Sima had a scorching front nine in the glow round at seven under par. The back nine cooled him off but he still finished at six under for the glow round. To the best of my knowledge and recollection, a killer time was had by all.

Played 2 rounds at Y-ville this evening and had a fantastic time. We were all talking about how this course is so much fun! Even with a bad score, I can still say I had a great time playing! Funny how a single hole there can blow a decent score. It was #6 that killed me first round (but had a great drive for birdy 2nd round on this hole....from top tee) , then #8 second round.
When we started the 2nd round, they were having a concert at the ampitheatre and a school art show or something. Lots of cars were parked not beside the road, but way off the road and all over holes 2, 3 and 4. They were parked far enough down on 4 to block a straight shot to the basket....they make for interesting obstacles though ;) . They also had knocked down the tee marker on #3. I can't believe that even non-DG'ers couldn't tell that they shouldn't have been parking there. Oh well, we still had a good time.

Welcome to the board Chukker, and thanks for the good words on the Y'ville course. Yup, it is a right smart different than it was a year ago. Our aim was to make it more challenging, use the land we had to better advantage and still have a fair course that most skill levels could enjoy playing. And it is a pretty place to be, especially the creek bottom holes. As you said some of the holes can bite you on the butt - #6, #8, #9, #13, #17 and most any of the others at any given moment - and they are still fair holes with no trickery required, just hit the lines.
Cars parking on the hilltop holes has been a problem and stands to be in the foreseeable future. Unfortunately all multi use parks with disc courses have their crosses to bear - picnicers on the fairways, softball tournies, soccer tournies, etc. - and in the overal scheme of things we hope to eventually come up with other holes that will eliminate these less interesting holes completely. I know what you mean though. How can anyone drive their car over landscape timbers or a tee sign without realizing something was amiss.
Again thanks for the good words. Keep watching this thread for future plans - tournies, club organization, work days, adopt-*******, etc.

:oAdmittedly a self serving post here. Many thanks to Dickie, JG, Bryant, Brian and Brock for the help in dragging brush from new fairways at my Ramcat Ridge Disc Golf Course this past Wednesday afternoon. We basically have all the fairways cleared except for holes #12 through #16. The Ramcat course is at my house in western Yadkin County on the first humps in the Brushy Mountains. The entire course is wooded with most holes being tight, technical and with elevation to consider. A bit of a cross between Wellspring in Burlington and Golden Hills in Blacksburg, but on the other hand pretty unique. Then again I am biased.
At any rate, next Saturday, 12th of June, I humbly solicit further assistance in clearing these final five fairways. The chainsaw work has been done, we just need to drag the brush and tree tops out. My notion of a work day involves some work, some throwing of discs and sufficient hydration with the beverage of your choice. It's June. It's hot. If cold beer works for you it works for me and there will be a case or four on ice for your fluid needs.
If you have any notion you might like to work your butt off for any portion of the day for little more than a heartfelt thank you and a cold beer give me a holler at 336-679-8818 days during the work week and 336-468-8081 nights and weekends. Again, thanks so much. Jamie

Another ace on the new Yadkinville layout. Yesterday Bryant Austin throws a huge honking hyzer out over the cedars on 310 foot #10 in the straightaway pin position and bam, dead center. Yeeeeee-freaking-haaaa!! To the my knowledge that makes five on the new setup, all on different holes. B's ace on #10, Cliff Hutchens glow ace on #14, Brock Stimpson's crash through the pines ace on #5, John Glens post tournament fun round ace on #9 and my own ace on #2. Anyone know of others?
The Ramcat course is coming around well. James "the Mole" Wallace and I got fairways #12 and #13 cleaned off on Saturday and I got #14 cleared on Sunday. That leaves only #15 and #16 fairways to clean debris and treetops. Teepads from #8 on are next. Many of those only require marking to play, but some will require a fair bit of shovel and berm work. If you are interested in playing or working on the course, give me a holler. Bryant and I will be working it Wednesday afternoon. Thanks. Jamie

Hey there Tater. I'm in the process of trying to get de boyz together for a planning meeting tomorrow evening so we should have something going in a week or so.
On the Ramcat side of the county, Bryant spent three or four hours with me yesterday afternoon cutting in a hillside teebox for #16. That is the last of the back breaking work, I hope. Still lots of little stuff to do but the whole course is playable now. All it needs now is traffic. If you or any of the Johnson Street bunch are interested, I am off this weekend and will be around the house. I'll be working some and playing some and will be more than happy to cease and desist on the work to give you a tour. PM me or call at the clinic 336-679-8818. Jamie

Good meeting Friday night. For the duration of good daylight hours, every Friday night fun random draw doubles, player meeting 5:30, tee time 6:00, $6.00 - four to basket fund with one to the ace pool and a dollar from each entry to payout the top team. This starts this Friday the 16th of July.
Also, the first Saturday of every month there will be either a singles or doubles tournie. Details to follow.

Don't forget Friday Night Doubles start tomorrow evening 16 July. Player meeting 5:30. Tee time 6:00. Pass the word along to folks who don't follow this board. We will continue doing these Friday evening things as long as daylight savings gives us a chance to finish a round before dark. See you tomorrow evening.

If you guys get a stamp then you could payout better while still making $$$ AND i think the attendance will start to increase for the monthlys. some peolpe have stated they do not want to play for only a couple places, but LOVE the course and wish to have a chance to cash while supporting you guys

Hey TS. Covered up summertime busy here as well. Had a really good start to the Friday Evening Doubles last Friday with a dozen hardy souls participating. As luck would have it Shane Stevens and Brock Stimpson were paired and took first with -11. Finishing second were Michael Gregory and myself at -8. Michael pretty much pulled my cripple butt through the round, for which I am grateful. BUT probably the best thing was that most of the principal supporters/workers/contributors were present and contributed mightily to the post round discussion of direction of the "club" and course.
Some new motivation was injected by a project we have been stymied on for over a month. Kevin Morris had graciously offered to solicit participation from a number of his music making buddies in a fundraising concert at the Yadkin County Park Amphitheater. A great deal of unanticipated difficulty had been encountered with previous committments for the Amphitheater and the park through the rest of the summer and into September and October making November the only timeframe we could use. Then conflicts arose with the music faction and Kevin understandably threw up his hands and said it didn't look like it was going to happen period. But as luck would have it the individuals who had previously committed to the Amphitheater on Saturday the 13th of November bowed out of their committment making it once again a viable date. Soooooooo.....
The plan at present is for a day of music at the amphitheater on Saturday 13 November and a two round singles disc tournie on Sunday the 14th of November. It is entirely possible that this would completely pay off our basket debt and head us in the direction of financial solvency.
After last Friday's round we also discussed coming up with a club logo for a club stamp and an initial order of stamped champion plastic.
As always Tim thanks so much for the support from the Oak Hollow club, both financially and physically. Keep your eyes and ears open over the next month or so as details are finalized for November. Should be a ton of fun. Jamie

Mawnin' Tater. Wish y'all could have stuck around. Good crowd at 18, a lot of them first timers. The random draw was a little suspect. I was pulling the tags out of the Crown Royal bag and had only pulled two when Brock walked up beside me. I poked him in the shoulder with my finger and said, "You and me this week kiddo." Last two numbers out of the bag? Yup, me and Brock. Bear and Bryant were paired and finished at nine under. Another good pairing was Bryan Bennett and John Glenn who finished at eight under. But even Brock's unfortunate pairing with the likes of me could not derail the Brock-train. We finished at ten under. I think the highlight was his draining a forty footer through the trees after he overthrew the long anhyzer on #8 giving us one of our eight birdies on the front nine. Three weeks in a row, three different partners, three wins at -11, -10, and -10.
Headed to Plank Road? Have a good one. Hope you can make it to Ramcat either 5 August for PRDT or 21 August for the Homegrown.

well well well zach and i played it twice this morniong and afternoon and im pooooooooped. the first round zach seemed to save par from everywhere and i had four birds-couldnt putt, two five, two fours and a six on #4. i made it clean past the basket about 180' down the mountain and had to fight to get a six. i lost to zach tag #4 but regained it in the later round as he struggled like me then.

man that second round was fun and Jaime you and any crew that has helped has busted their humps to get this course in. If you like tight placement shots which go up and down hills across valleys and tight walking paths then head on up into the west yakdin hills and see this nice layout. 9 holes out and then 9 holes back to the house, better bring some water and wear your hiking boots.

take an anhy roc, hyzer roc, 1 driver and a putter. this course is a mix of baskets- and homemade bamboo tone poles. it is a short course except for about five-six holes but tight placement is the game. you can birdy alot or you can graze the wrong tree and be wishing you hadnt. long tight holes 3, 5, 9, 16, 17 and another one on the back somewhere. i still am tickeled about the putt over the tree on 16 -bang 2. 14's basket is nesteled up about five foot in between three trees, nice. Go play RAMCAT RIDGE

:DA killer second round TS. Seven down? Did I count it right? Not many folks have played it yet but that would be the best score so far. Dickie and a couple of friends from Hickory played it yesterday and two of them carded -3's. Man it sure feels good to hear folks talking about being on the course after a years worth of humping up and down the ridge. So you think our time was well spent? I'll still be humping up and down but now it will at least be playing for a while. :) Killer putt over the leaning locust tree on #16. I can picture it well. Last Wednesday afternoon playing a round by myself as I put up course signs I hit a long one on #16. I smacked a tree part of the way up the hill on my drive and ended up 135 feet from the pin just off the left side of the fairway. Couldn't see the pin because of that large landmark clump of poplars and had to throw an anhyzer forehand flick high out over the fairway and over that tree. Couldn't see it but knew I was close when the chains started singing. Thanks for the good words.
Everybody come on out for the PRDT Thursday afternoon. Bring your scrambling game and a couple of liters of water.
Look forward to seeing you at the Homegrown Tim.

The other side of the mountain is +/-25 holes on three acres with fairways played both ways and crossing and all bamboo tone targets. My plan right now is to acquire eight more baskets around Christmas to make the entire 18 holes on the south side baskets. Then some time in January and February I'll add two new holes on the south side, eliminating current seventeen and eighteen which beg a bit of tolerance from my neighbors. Remind me the next time you are out and I will show you the lines for these two new holes. The Oak Hollow Insane Tee designers would be proud. Both lines are long and tight and of course use the elevation. The tone targets from the south side will then be used to transition to the north side of the ridge for maybe some seriously tight par two holes on the order of the Tiki course at The Grange. You know, kind of a wind down from the main course of the south side. God, I loooooove Billy Goat Golf.

it was only 6 down, first round 6 over, so i shot even par on the two rounds. i had lots of fun in the trees, probably will never shoot as good of a round again. i think i got most of the get-able ones today and saved a par outta my arse on nine with a tomahawk through the wicked tight trees. im still mad about that double bogey on short little hyzer 13, though

To paraphrase some comedian or other who's name I can never remember, "Tater, you were on hole #13. You were just asking for lizards." On the one hand it's a short, pure hyzer. On the other, it has to be a very high hyzer to reach a place where it won't roll back down the hill. On the third hand, it is hole #13. And there are lizards every freaking where. :D

Don't forget Friday night doubles in Y'ville this evening.
And tomorrow, Saturday, 7 August, our first monthly Saturday singles tournie. I apologize profusely for the short notice. I got busy and pre-occupied with getting the Ramcat course up for the PRDT yesterday and let it slip up on me. Player meeting at 3:30, tee time 4:00 for one round of singles. Again all profits go directly to the basket fund.
As for Ramcat, a big old time was had by all with Bryant and Matt winning at six down in a putt off with P-nut and Justin Jablonski. Also Matt had the first tournament ace on the new course on #15. This was the shot that put the B & M team in the putt off and eventually won the tournie for them. Congrats guys. And B., thanks so much for the hard work and help on Ramcat.

De nada, Jake. The High Point entourage is always welcome.
Big time had by all on both Friday night doubles and First Saturday singles. On Friday night once again we had a great turnout with 20 for the second week in a row. If we can keep up this pace the baskets will be paid off by the end of the year and we can move on to bigger and better things - like concrete tees, signage, club stamped discs and real payouts on tournies. The team of Frank Flippin and Adam Clifton burned up the course Friday evening taking top honors with a couple of pairs nippping at their heels. Saturday singles had enough folks for three divisions - pro, adv am and old men. Local Bryant Austin took pro by a stroke, Jeremy took adv. am. and Kevin Morris masters. Sounds like they are calling for another sterling weather weekend with a cool front moving in by Friday. Come on out.

We had a large time at Ramcat on Saturday, with the threatening clouds holding off until only one group was left on the course. The over east flatlanders fared very well on the hills and hollars with FBJ taking Masters and Kevin McFadden taking pros. They were no doubt aided by the cushy BMW that they pulled up in. There just isn't a substitute for a comfortable ride to a tournie. Local John Glenn took Advanced Ams.

Question - Is "ramcat" the new course in Yadkinville? I've been meaning to make a trip down to check it out.
riverdog
Aug 24 2004, 09:02 AM
Mornin' JP. The public course at Yadkin County Park is probably the "new" course you've heard about. The course has actually been around since the early 90's in one form or another, but was an all tube tone course until early this year when a small group of local golfers decided to quit talking about getting baskets and upgrading the course, and just did it. It is well worth your drive down from Rocky Mount, especially if you try to combine it with a trip to Ramcat. Ramcat is my private, at home course (please call before you come) - 18 holes, ten baskets, eight bamboo tone targets (to be upgraded to baskets when Santa comes this year), lots of elevation, all wooded, billy goat, placement golf. If you see yourself head this way PM me and I will try to get up with you or hook you up with some locals. :) Jamie

A big old time at the ridge yesterday with fifteen folks showing up at various times through the day. Good golf, good folks and the weather was pretty amenable, only drizzling a bit during the morning round. A couple of aces, the third and fourth for the new course. Brian Bennett hit a dead-nuts-center ace on #14, sitting in the tripod chestnut oak. Bear Griffen hit the second ace on #8, the short, laurel-hell, stonehenge oak hole.

Also plans for the big do the 13th and 14th of November are coming together. Saturday 13th November will be music at the amphitheater of Yadkin County Park involving five different groups with styles ranging from alternative country to progressive bluegrass to african drums. Very eclectic. Lots of fun. There will also be demos of putting, mid-range and driving as well as competition pay to play putting and mid-range.
Sunday the 14th of November will be all golf with two rounds of singles with as many divisions as we have players for. The players package has not been finalized yet but is looking very interesting. Also the payout should be decent with the music Saturday paying off our basket debt. Keep your eyes skinned to this thread for more info.
Nothing going on in NC that weekend, 13-14 November, so go ahead and make your plans. If you are coming from out of town there is a very nice motel less than a mile from the park.
Thanks for the update.
We are scheduled for a trip to Outer Banks the weekend of Nov. 13-14. Darn the luck. This is a reunuion of old college buddies and has been in the planning process for some time. Nonetheless, let me know if I can help with some of the preparations for the event. Played the Y-ville course this past Saturday and it looked great, good work on some of the tee boxes.
Hope to see you this Friday or Saturday.

Some pretty good golf played tonight at Friday Night Dubs, with the emphasis on night as it was pretty much hard dark when we all finished. Two teams finished at 11 under Brock Stimpson/Ken Sizemore and Bryant Austin/Jamie Arnold (moi), but the winners were John "Senator" Glenn and the foreigner Elliott Wentz at a hearty twelve under par. Elliott apparently took the youngsters to school with some long putts and improvised up shots. A fun crowd. Don't think I heard a single whine. The Ace Pool went untouched and now stands at $181.
We have decided to try to keep up Friday night dubs through the month of October. Just too much fun being had.
Don't forget First Saturday Singles tomorrow afternoon at the park. Meeting 3:15. Tee time 4:00. Be there. It's what everyone will be talking about around the water cooler on Monday.

Tater! Where ya been bud? Working more than playing, no doubt. It's a shame when work gets in the way of play. Happens in the best of families though.
Yup, we are going to try to keep up Friday evening dubs until the end of October. Getting tougher with the short days. Right now meeting 4:30, tee 4:45. Had a big old bunch of folks last Friday, even a couple of Oak Hollow boys showing up.
We are having a meeting on the November 13-14 Fundraisers tonight and will hopefully have tickets for the Music Saturday and flyers for the Sunday disc tournie coming out of that. We should also have club stamped discs and minis available shortly. That could end up being pretty close to the time of the tournie with Innova East covered up with USDGC tasks.
Kevin, Bryant, Bear and de boys have been doing some fine work on the teepads. Still natural, but bigger and hopefully dryer.
Speaking of which, are you going to make it down to Rock Hill this weekend? Several of us are going down for Saturday and I may stay over Saturday evening depending on what the cut does on Saturday and how competitive the top groups are.
Some good golf still going on at Ramcat. If I don't stay for the Sunday rounds I'll be playing on the ridge.

Hey TS. Very quickly I'll give you what I've got. Todd Gillihan volunteered to run the event for us and Todd has all the detailed payout info. (And I currently can't find Todd). Saturday 13th is music primarily with some disc golf demos on the side for the non-golfers and kids. Sunday 14th Nov. entry fees: Pro $30, Ams $25, $1 ace pool (which is now in the $220 range I think). Everyone registered will receive a Champion Disc for entering, two rounds with all 36 holes paying $5 CTP's, top 50% in each division will get at least plastic payout, not sure beyond that. First place trophies for each division. There is a possibility of further goodies but I am not yet at liberty to say precisely what (but rumor has it that we have a really cool new stamp designed by a nationally known designer). Still waiting on specifics from Innova on our costs so unsure about our final debt which of course affects what we can pay. With any luck this will be the last event where we have to really poor mouth as the idea is for these two things to pay off our baskets. Some cool new pin positions have been installed by the way. More info when I have it. Jamie

Wish I could have made it to the Roast. One of these years. Had a big old time in Yadkin County though. Showing Lowe Bibby around Ramcat and the Yadkinville course. Beautiful weather and about as close to peak colors as we are going to have this year.
First Saturday Singles at the Yadkin County Park this Saturday with player meeting at 2:00, tee time 2:15. Ace Pool is over $200. Come on out and enjoy. Supposed to be around 60 degrees and clear. In other words a perfect time to get in some practice before the big two rounder on Sunday the 14th of November.
And don't forget about the day of music on Saturday the 13th. Only five bucks gets you 6 hours of music and a chance at a $75, $50, and $25 cash door prize. :D

Five bucks plus a dollar ace pool. Ace pool is currently $226 plus whatever it grows to on Saturday. Also going to have Sunday afternoon random doubles this weekend at 2:00. Tell everyone you know about Saturday since we weren't able to get the word out last Friday night. Also the 14 November event is shaping up beautifully.

Looks like the weatherman is going to cooperate with us for this Saturday and Sunday's events at the Yadkin County Park. Saturday music starts at 11:00 and runs until 5:00. Pretty eclectic blend from bluegrass, to just plain blues, to Kevin Morris' drum choir. If you have never had the pleasure of hearing a good african drum group, you are in for a treat. These guys rock.
As for the disc golf part of the weekend - Sunday 14th of November, player meeting 9:30, 1st round tee time 10:00, 2nd round probably around 1:30. Will have as many divisions as we have at least three participants for. Pro's $30, Ams $25, with all participants getting a CFR TL with twenty bucks of their entry fees. Plaques for winners of all divisions. The ace pool stands at $249 and will hopefully be closing on $300 for the tournie. In addition CTP's will be played for all 36 holes with at least $5 per CTP. So between the ace pool and the CTP's come on out and run at some pins with us. See you Sunday. Jamie

Killer, big old weekend in Yadkinville. I'll provide details of winners later, but the music on Saturday was excellent and the golf on Sunday was most excellent as well. No doubt the biggest monetary winner of the disc golf fraction of the weekend was none other than Dickie Bockoras who hit #3 to take the $303 dollar ace pool. Congrats Dickie. :D

Again, thanks so much to everyone who participated in this weekend. I hesitate to mention any names for fear I will leave someone out, but here goes. The weekend would have never happened at all had it not been for the work of Kevin Morris who had the original idea and followed through on it. And big ups to all the following, in no particular order other than how they pop into my little bitty brain - Harold Duvall and Innova East, Bryant "Bridge" Austin, James "Mole" Wallace, John "Senator" Glenn, Ken Sizemore, Bear Griffin, Todd Gillihan, Phil Martin and many, many more. A special thanks goes out to John Dorn for his graphic interpretation of our rough idea for a stamp/club logo. We have DX Rocs and Dx Aviars available with this new stamp. Better still and way cool, we also have CFR Glo EL's, CFR Glo TL's, and non-glo ChampFR TL's available for sale. For those of you who haven't seen or felt the CFR glo plastic, it is absolutely bullet proof, the closest thing I have felt to the original CE plastic, an absolute must for your bag or wall; glo's $25, non-glo's $20. Shoot the stamp alone is worth that.
A great crowd turned out for a gorgeous mid-November day, cobalt skies, low 50's and virtually no wind. Numbers - 38 total, 14 Pro-Open, 11 Adv. Am, 5 Masters, 8 Ams.
Pro-Open #1 Brad Smith with a sizzlilng 1st round 47
#2 Bret "Count Mookula" Byerly of Highpointilvania
#3 Bryant Austin, token local
Adv Am - #1 Ben "The Barrister" Porter who managed to stay
a couple of steps ahead of "Little D" all day
#2 Doug Branscom
Old Guys - #1 BearBob Griffin
#2 Todd "The Tabulator" Gillihan
Ams - #1 Howie S.
#2 Zacklet B. (Super Dave told me that was your
personal favorite nickname)
More Y'ville news when I have a little more time.

A quick note to all before I escape Yadkin County for a week. The Discatchers at Yadkin County Park now belong to the people of Yadkin County free and clear. Thank you Harold and everyone else at Innova for giving us the opportunity to take our local discing to a new level. I think a celebration of some sort is indicated. If it's OK I'll go ahead and start without you. See you all a week from Sunday. Jamie
