I have a question about everyone's course signage. We are trying to design nice signs for each hole but we are having trouble. We do not want the signs to turn out generic, but not one sign company in our area has been able to design one to our liking. I started searching the web for computer software programs, but I did not find much. If anyone knows a good computer software company please write back. Thanks.

I don't think there's a program out there that will actually design the signs for you, but there are plenty of tools you can use to create them. Here's what I know of:

Quark XPress - This is the layout program most pros use. It's powerful, but has several drawbacks. First, it's not easy to use. Second, it doesn't have any kind of graphics editing capabilities, so you'd have to make those on a different program. Third, it's like $900.

Adobe Creative Suite - This package includes the latest versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, and Acrobat, all for the low price of $1299. You can do pretty much anything imaginable (except video) with Creative Suite, and do it well, but there will be a lot of stuff you won't need.

Jasc Paint Shop Pro - I have this program at home. It's user-friendly, powerful, and at $100, by far the most bang for your buck. You can make great logos and graphics with Paint Shop Pro, but it's not really suited for large amounts of text.

Microsoft Publisher - This is Microsoft's layout program. It's not as powerful as Quark or Adobe InDesign, but it's quite easy to use. Like Quark, you'll need a separate graphics editor. My version came included with Office 2002, but I think it's about $150 by itself.

Corel Draw Graphics Suite - I've never used these programs, but people really seem to like them. They're quite powerful, and a bit cheaper than the other high-end ones.

Those are the ones I have experience with. There's plenty more out there, including lower-end programs that don't do as much, but are generally easier to use and much cheaper.

I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Adobe Illustrator is your best bet. Its extremely powerful yet it's fairly easy to make nice looking graphics right off the bat. You can probably buy Illustrator for about $200-$300. If your really serious about designing your own signs, go with Illustrator. You don't need to buy the whole Adobe CS suite...just illustrator. Good Luck

I'm a CAD drafter and actually did the tee signs for Veterans on CAD this year. While not for the faint of heart, or most people, it turned out pretty well :D. If you need some done shoot me an e-mail and I'd be more than happy to help out until you find a program that's easy for you to use.

I made our course signs with Illustrator. It was fast and easy. We laminated them and we plan to put them behind Lexan. You can see an example on my dyed disc page- http://www.funtigo.com/pnkgtr scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Does anyone know a place to get affordable sponsorship tee signs? I have seen Innova's (http://www.innovadiscgolf.com/signs.html) & DGA's (http://www.discgolfassoc.com/signs.html) and they are too fancy (i.e. too expensive). I also saw Chain Reaction (http://www.chainreactiondiscgolf.com/) in Austin does signs...thats something more like I'm looking for. I want to shop around before I commit, so any insight on the companies mentioned, or suggestions of where to look would be very helpful - THANKS!!
