Danny - it's happening for me too! I sent Conrad a message at around 7am (CST) with a cut n paste of my error message, but you're right - it seems to be getting worse now.

The message board database seems to be crashing increasingly more often, causing lost users and posts every time. While the inconvenience is temporary, and users can be reinstated by sending a PM to the administrator, it's a headache that we shouldn't have to deal with. What can be done to prevent the database from crashing in the future?

Have you noticed that the crashes seem to coincide with a certain user getting banned ;).

Just trying to create a conspiracy theory :D.

The good news is that these problems used to last for 5 or 6 days, now the volunteers are correcting the problem within 48 to 72 hours, which is a huge improvement.

Is there any way to get the new posts to show up when you click on the threads, instead of searching through the "empty" pages?

Not that I know of.

See my related post:

We don't know what's causing the crashes. That would require a level of troubleshooting that we don't currently have the resources for. Conrad has automated the recovery process to a certain extent, but it still has manual steps involved.

Perhaps once we get the bulk of the forums to "members only", the volume of non-relevant messages will go down, and the board will be less likely to crash.

Sorry Theo, I was one of those people who made a new name after the crash. I think there is confusion as to what to do in when you lose your discussion account. I read somewhere to PM Conrad, but I couldn't do that without a new account.

Good point! In the future, we'll have people contact us via the Contact page (http://www.pdga.com/contact.php?a=sf&contact=Website).

Theo, why did they eliminate the feature where you can change your displayed name? I would like to see that returned. If people are abusing it you could limit the number of characters or something like that. I tried the contact page but no responce. Thanks.

"the volume of non-relevant messages will go down"

There are no "non-relevant" messages, just "non-relevant" replies! :o

Why is it that I can see people have posted to a thread, but I'm unable to see any of the posts? This seems to happen mostly on the threads with lots of pages and replies?

Still wondering, Theo....Conrad...or anyone directly involved.

MulchMaster,
I sent an email asking the same thing before you posed your question here.

Conrad told me that it was disabled due to abuse and he didn't know if it would be enabled again.
