Sounds pretty cool. Someone, please post a review of the course.
B, I'm playing this morning at the Rock. We can hook up later if you want to play. I'll check back later. MR /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
The course is sweet and well worth the drive if you live anywhere in Texas! The course plays 61 different tee boxes.
Elevation changes, some narrow tree shots, and a creek throughout the course make for a challenging round. The blue tees play 3528', the white tees play 5034', the red tees play 6344', and the 11 red and 7 gold play a whopping 7244'(hole #8 = 1041')BOOM! This course is an excellent course for all levels of players. Sat. Jan.10 is our Ice Bowl, we will be donating all canned goods collected to the Crowley House of Hope. So bring your cans and your game, its gonna be a good time! Merry Christmas!

I luv living two miles away from this course......
I also luv how they have stopped moving the new baskets all around. It seemed that every few days they were moving them all around.
THIS COURSE ROX......
Each time I go, I see new work that has been done to improve the course.
One thing I dont like is some of the big [*****] cactus patches and the thorn bushes. They try to fight me all the time.
:)
Why does hole 7 eat my lunch every time?
IM starving.
Saturday Dec. 20th after the 9:30 Mini there will be a final work day to get the course ready for the ice bowl. We can use all the help we can get.
Also, I saw some of the trophys for the ice bowl and they are SWEET!

When is the Ice Bowl?
The Bicentennal Park Ice Bowl is Sat. Jan. 10th. All food and cash raised are being donated to the Crowley House of Hope. We hope to have alot of people show. We are going to dedicate the course on the same day with an engraved piece of granite (which will be placed in concrete) thanking the City of Crowley and discgolfers for all the hard work put into the course. So everyone come out bring lots of canned foods and play this sweet new course. Open division has a payout. Trophys for all divisions.

Did anyone else hear about or read about some disc golfers at this course who attempted a rescue in the rain-swollen creek there of someone who had fallen in?
I thank these DGers for their altruism.
Hey Bill. Yes, I heard that there were a couple of young kids playing by the playground, But I believe it was an 18 year old girl who got sucked into an 18 inch tube. It is a walk bridge from 1s tee to the pin. When I've been there the water is about 2 inches deep. It was really flowing that day. What a terrible tragedy! I heard that some casual golfers used cellphones for 911. :( So Sad! P.S. Sat minis: 9:30 start And I believe LOONNGG tees in afternoon! "MeisterOUT"

I will be going out to this course on Friday. I think I have a pretty good idea where it is, but what I would like to know is if there is a course map, and if the tees are marked well enough for someone who has never played the course to get around OK.
Also, are there any alternate tees I should look for? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Bill, the course is layed out very well.. I believe there is a map on the bulliten board. There are four sets of tees, red, white, blue, and gold. The mando are posted on the bulletin board as well, but I believe there is only mandos for the blue tees. The course is easy to follow, just pay attention to the arrows!! Have fun, this course is very nice. :DOne more thing, after you take a right on crowley-renden road you will see another road about a mile up on the right. That is the road the course is on, right next to a neighborhood.

The tees go in order of blue, white, red and gold. Blue are the easiest and gold are the hardest. There are only gold tees on some holes, about half I think. Play the whites or reds. They are the most "fair."
Mandos are not only applicable to the blues. For instance on hole 1, you have to make the mando from the white tee also. I think that mando was put there because people threw hyzers over the playgound from the white tee.

play blue's first then play red's,gold tee's are for producing good shot's not to see how far you can throw.red, white, blue does it really matter, there's some people who spent alot of time putting them in and painting them.

Is it just me or does it seem that Ron Silliman and/or the people responsible for Crowley's course are bound and determined to run their events up against Maceman events????? I don't understand it, if the people in charge of Crowley have a problem with Brian Mace they need to address that with him personally, not make player's choose between events constantly. There is no reason that ALL of the TD's and courses in the DFW area cannot work together to make this a better area for Disc Golf, until we do, DFW WILL NOT progress like it should as a Disc Golf community. I personally don't have a problem with either course or course "staff"(officers or people in charge) I'm just sick of the BS. Please try to avoid these "scheduling conflicts" in the future, I would love to have the chance to play two great events at two great courses and not have to choose. Until then all of this bickering and fighting is only going to hinder DFW area Disc Golf in the future.

I wouldn't say that is the whole schedule..no TX 10's on there and few others..we have over 100 sanctioned and non-sanctioned events and the times have progressed to having to make a choice.

Jason...I do agree on the Crowley situation...I don't know all the particulars as I have been there once...but you know I monitor the situations and this can probably be fixed with a fun round of golf and some talking.

Who's hiding behind a computer????? All of you know me and where I am at most of the time. And , as I stated, I don't have a problem with either any of the people involved in either course/club or whatever you want to call it. I'm not even sure what the issue is, that's why I wanted to put it out in a public forum and find out exactly what the issue is, if there is one.
You don't even play CROWLEY!!!![QUOTE]
Unfortunately I have only been able to make it to 1 of your minis this year and only played the new layout 4 times, I say unfortunately because it's a great course, and I haven't had much time to get out there.
[QUOTE]
And Another Thing John H. supported us with ctp's for Dominigue Roberts Fund Raiser( YOU DID'NT SUPPORT)
I apoligize that my financial situation at the time didn't allow me to give anything to your event personally, as far as the club doing it, that would have been up to Toolen and the other officers(myself included). We thought it was more of a $$ raising event to help out with the families expenses, so we didn't even consider CTP's. If you would have approached us about them, we would have happily given you some.
So Jason you need to work on disc golf game and Leave my Name out of it,it's people like you that stir up **** !!!!!
I love how anyone on this board that wants to argue with me brings up me needing to practice my game. I play this sport for the pure enjoyment of it and I TD and help run allot of events so that other players can enjoy them. Thanks for bringing this down to the level; of personal attacks though. As far as leaving your name out of it.....As far as I know you are the contact for the Crowley course, the face that deals with the city, and the person a TD would have to deal with if he wanted to do something at the Crowley course.......Correct???? That's the only reason your name is in there, I figured you would be the person that could help us to work on this continuing problem. Just trying to make things easier on everyone so we don't have to choose between 2 events that are within 50 miles of each other. I apoligize that you got so upset over this. Next time I have the time I'll come out to Crowley and we can talk about it over a beer and leave the personal attacks out of it.
Jason

I put in 18 benches for my course (mostly $$$ out of my pocket), spread wood chips every weekend for a year, held mini's, gave advice, picked up trash..ect.ect...
I love this sport just as Jason...and you...I will most likely never be a pro. I play for fun and friendship. The only mini I played in Crowley was a blast and the people were great, just like the Vet and ZBoaz guys and girls.

I can say this.....
The course in Crowley is incredible since the core group out there put in all of the time and money to get it where it's at. If you haven't seen what they've done out there then you're only hurting yourself. The original 9 holes were not all that impressive, but a few tweaking of the tee pads, and a whole new nine holes has made it a crazy, insane, fun, place to toss plastic around.
It's a difficult situation for me because i love all of the people involved in the conflicts. I played in the Crowley ice bowl last year, and would have loved to have played in the Crowley ice bowl this year, but there was a pdga event scheduled on the same day.
I also would have loved to have been a part of Dominigue Memorial event, but there was a DFW food drive event that had been scheduled since last november on the same day with a $1500 ace pot. Now, i understand that the Memorial event was a spur of the moment thing, and i think it's great that Crowley did this for the family. In fact, i still need to donate to the family on behalf of the Crowley core group.
Now this last food drive event in dallas at Flag Pole HIll was also on the schedule since last november. I wish Crowley had done their World's Biggest DG weekend on the correct weekend, because i would have been able to attend both events. On the otherhand, as stated in an earlier post, at least Crowley did do a worlds biggest. Props to that!
Let's try not to seperate the unity of the disc golf communtity. The Poison Ivy open pdga event brought in 105 players, the Crowley ice bowl on the same day brought in roughly 50 players. Wow! If the events were on seperate days, it looks like we could have had 150 players at each event! Now that's impressionable! I'm not sure how many people showed up for the Memorial in Crowley, but i heard it went well, and over $600 was raised. I do know that 87 people showed up at Z-Boaz for the DFW food drive event. What if they were on seperate weekends? Even more impressionable? Possibly.
Anyway, i just hate to see my friends not getting along, and fighting for attendence of an already tiny sport. Like i said before, let's try not to seperate the unity.
Phewww, my fingers hurt. Sheeeeesh!
Crowley Tues. night 6pm!

Seems to me somebody is going way out of their way to intentionally schedule events to coincide with anything Brian puts on. I like the the folks that run Crowley and Z-Boaz. It's a darn shame none of them can check their egos at the door and talk like adults instead of acting like 13 year old school girls.
You know how much Jason does for golf in this area. To question that is beyond low.

May 11 2004, 04:33 PM
This is the classic defensive response that I expected to find find on this thread. Why is it that a few concerned golfers who want this sport to grow pose a question and all we get is a hostile response? I don't know what your method of scheduling your events are and it may just be a big coincidence that all of them happen at the same time that Brian is hosting an event. That is why we were asking.
Now, I understand that the DFW area has a lot of events thoughout the year. It is inevitable that some will conflict each other but if we all made a better attempt to help each other everyone's events would have better turnouts.
I love playing the Crowley course and really want to support all of the great things that you are doing out there but feel like I should support the event that was planned out 6 months to a year in advance.
As an impartial observer, it really appears to me that you guys only care about your course and the disc golfers that play it. Now, this may not be your intention but it is the impression that you are giving off.
You are doing many great things for your community and disc golf but if you could be more of a team player, we could all work together to make DFW a great place to play disc golf.

"From Loop I-820 and I-35W south to exit 39 FM 1187/Crowley Renden Rd. Go west 1 mile to Main St. Go West about 1/2 mile, turn Right on 1st street after the bridge and follow neighborhood streets around west side of park to parking lot."

Basically, you don't turn. It's kind of a fork in the road. 1187 continues to the main part of town. Main St is the fork to the right that goes through the neighborhood.
If someone else has a better explanation, feel free to add.

It looks like 71 was the best score in open and/or masters on the gold course!

Do all the holes have gold tees?
Every hole has a gold tee, they are pretty hard as well... I would say the longest is 1100 ft with ob on the right and alot of trees on the left. I love the course, wish I got off a little earlier and I would play it more often. Grapevine is a long way from Crowley when you get off when the mini starts...

Great course, but it took two of my discs when I played it.
One was a brand new comet with a BB stamp in elite x. It was picked up 5 mins after I forgot in the fairway, and someone jetted with it. The other one was a z-predator lost on hole 15, the one that is a hyzer over the creek, The disc hit the bushes right in front, and it was quite dark. The z-predator has my info on it. I would really appreciate getting thes back.
If you have these, please send me a pm.
Thanks

Ok, I played Crowley yesterday.
I played from the gold tee's.
Not a very good place to start from when you have only played the original 9 holes a few years ago.
Course was fairly well marked, I only had tough time finding the basket on 8 (a guy told me to just follow the wires) and finding the tee after hole 13, the rest I found pretty quick.
I shot about a 73 with a lost disc penalty, a 2 stroke unplayable lie penalty, and an OB on 14 (that is another story in it's self)
I could not tell if there there were any manditories on the gold tees. (it looked like one on hole 1 so I played it that way)
Holes 1,2,3,4 were all good.
holes 5 was rough, but I nailed the fairway for an easy 3.
Holes 6 sucked throwing from the gold tee, that tee needs work. I through way high and the wind took my disc over to 5s fairway, still managed a 5 though.
Holes 7 good.
Holes 8 is really rough. If you are not on the dirt (rock) road, you are in trouble. I did not know where the basket was so I just though a safe shot over to the other hill. My second shot got up in the air and it took me 10min to find my disc. (it was on the side of the hill in the grass though) My 3rd shot was way left in the brush. My 4th shot was an overhead shot that i never found. I spent over 30min looking for it before I gave up. I took a penalty and parked the up shot.
hole 9 is good, I parked it. It was very rough onthe left hand side of the fairway. Good thing I didn't go there.
Hole 10 is what ****** me off. I through what I though would be a safe shot and went right. The disc hit the trunk of a tree and went left by the red tee. this area is totally unpayable. My legs were massively scratched up from looking only 5 min for my disc. When I did find it, I grabbed it and took a two stroke penalty and took the disc back to the fairway. There was no way I was going to climb behind that disc.
CLEAN THIS AREA OUT. I then parked my up shot (good thing I didn't go right on this hole.
#11, ok hole, this area can not be mowed and I don't like tall grass. my shot landed on the top of the hill for an easy 3.
#12 I was glad to get out of the brush, I actually parked this hole for a 2 from the gold tee. (another tee that needs work)
Then back to the open on #13. Almost aced this hole from the gold tee. Took my easy bird and spent 5 min looking for the tee's for hole 14.
I was directed by some locals were the tee's were (I was looking in the wrong direction) I tried to through my favorate driver (the one I almost aced #13 with) down the creek and hit a limb. Splash by the tree. The creek looked shallow, that is why I through my favorate disc over it. But where I splashed down was deaper than any stick I could find. I lost my favorate driver, a 1st run red Valk. I managed to make a 5 on this hole.
15,16,17,18 were all cool. I had to throw around some soccer players for 16, but I just rolled right past them to the edge of the tree line for an easy 3.
Basicly, if the back holes were cleaned up of briars, I could live with this course. I don't ever want to play this course by myself from the long tee's again. Too many long blind shots for my taste.
Oh yea, after completing my round, I went back to the creek on 14 to get out my disc. That sucker was over 5 ft deep. I was on my tippy toes with my head bearly above the water. I did manage to find my 1st run Valk and drove the hour home soaking wet. (the only disc I lost was one that I found)

It is only 10 days away. The much anticipated finals of the 2004 JDGF Scholarship Series. We will be playing the Red and White Tees at Crowley giving everyone a chance at the ace. We are starting the ace pot with $500 + entries.
The Sereis Bonus Pool is at $800 to be paid to the top 8 point leaders. If no one hits the ace at Crowley, the $500 will be added to the Bonus Pool making it worth $1300 to be paid out to the top 13 point leaders, with all the entries added to be paid out in the JDGF customary CTP of 50% - 30% - 20%. I am still getting some last minute sponsors, but I can guarantee at least $2000 added in cash and prizes to the entries!
Even if you haven't played in any of our other events, you can still play in the Finals. There will be 5 extra holes with some interesting shots.
In the past Series events, the Pro Mens Division winner got cash + a certificate good for a 4 day / 3 night Bahama Vacation and Cruise. In the Finals, We are going to give a Vacation to the Pro Mens Division Winner, Pro Masters and Pro Women, provided there are at least 4 in the Masters and Womens divisions. If not, the 1 of the Cruises will be given to the Advanced Division Winner and we will have a Ring of Fire to give away the other.
After the Finals, I make an announcment regarding next years events (8) and the Enhanced Bonus Pool. (Hint: We already have a couple of sponsors for the Bonus Pool!!)
