Ok, fair warning. Hole 17. If you are parked left of the basket near the road there is a HIVE of BEE's in the ground. I was lining up my birdie putt and thought the initial pain was the brush stabbing me in the leg. You know how you've got fire ants on you and you ignore them the first five seconds? Well, I decided that the putt was more important until I looked down and had those muther f'ers buzzing me. I got out of there with three stings. Joey got his thrills of course. Carson was man enough to go get my disc. Funny, I only get stung when Joey is around. I keep checking for the Rottweiler from "The Omen".

ATTENTION ALL CENTRAL TEXAS GOLFERS!
ROUND Rock has donated time to other clubs and sponsored many event. And now we need you alls help!
Rivery is having a work day this Saturday. I will leave it up to Ed to post a time. But I know I will be there around 8:00am. But I have a mission to make #8 the signature hole of the course.
There will be plenty to do on the rest of the course.
Things to keep in mind:
1.Its time for other than R&R member to do some work in WILL CO.
2. Bring tools....gloves, lopers, chain saws, weedeater and mowers.
3. A B.Q. will follow.
4. San Gaberial is cold and good for swimming.
5. And did I mention its time to see someone else than R&R members to help in WILL CO.

edman
Sep 13 2004, 07:27 PM
Talked with the city they are supposed to be there before Sat. so we should know exactly what we are up against before we start. There is talk of having a BBQ afterwards, will see how that shakes loose.
The Double R has stepped up and done alot for WILCO and austin for that matter, and there has been plenty of talk from Austin players that they love the courses north and would like to help out on them. Here is your chance, come on out and give something back to the sport we all love.
THERE WILL BE NO RENEGADING. NO TREE TRIMMING UNLESS IT HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO CUT.This course is tight and will stay that way for the tourney and forever. There will plenty to do for the whole family not just golfers so bring your families if you want.
More info this week. Start time of Work Day 9 a.m. See you all then with mowers, weedwackers and rakes.

I met with the city at lunch, drove the course, and discussed what I need for them to do for us. They are going to mow everything except holes 4,5,6,9,10,11 and 17. They cannot get there equipment in those holes. That is where we come in, we will weedeat 5 and 6 and mow the others. The city will be there this Thursday so we will be able to come right behind them Sat morning. We need mowers and weedeaters mainly, I have everything else. So if you have access to a mower or weedeater and can't make it out please PM me and I will make arrangements to get them.

Everybody involved with the cleanup crew will be able to drive down through the gate on the south bound access road of 35 and park around hole 3. If you are not out there to work and drive down

take I-35 north to exit 261-A
get in right lane, turn right just past river at KFC
take first right behind KFC
follow dirt road to bottom, park under 1-35
take walk bridge up hill to pavillion

The city will not allow us to park on the access road, WE HAVE TO PARK UNDER I-35 ON NORTH BOUND SIDE.

Rivery looked good. Great job guys. FYI I found two hazards. One is a bee hive by hole 2 at Settler's. From the tee box on 2, twenty or so yards on the left by the water, just past the first huge weed is a hole in the ground and they are swarming out of there continuously. One bug bomb at night might get them since you can cover the hole at night with all of them in there. The other is a huge yellow jacket nest in the weeds at hole 18 of Rivery. It is on the right of the fairway about 15 yards short of the old tee box ( far right of fairway). Someone we were playing with found them the hard way. We thanked him for showing us! I'll be there soon and might hit that nest with some wasp killer. By the way any guesses on the lowest score at Rivery this weekend? My guess is -8.

I am finally back at my desk.
I also want to thank all for the help!!!!!
We made a difference and it shows. I will be on the course today to take the stomps out of the NEW #8. The hole is 250' long and 45' wide. Nothing special but its tight. To make it a great hole I needed more oaks and elms. But the design can give you a birdy or a boggy so it was a success in my eyes.
Cedar benches are at the tee box and two in the fairway so a golfer has something to set on while his playing partner hacks out the woods from a bad shot. It is a good change from the BORROWING hyzer that the hole use to be.
Edman call me.

One last thank you-Efrain Salazar for the chain saw usage, thanks buddy now move up. :D
We did have a very hardworking group on Sat. we couldn't of done it with out you guys. If we would of had just 5 more people we could of made the park shine. Those who thought they should of came out I wish you would of, we took care of a little bit on every hole but couldn't be as thorough as we all would of liked.Hopefully the city is ON BOARD with me now and can continue to help me and the Double R to keep this a true jewel in the Austin area. There is no other course around here like this one it's awesome.
I predict that this will be the toughest TX10 yet as far as course play, mentally and physically. From one extreme to another.
If you feel guilty(which I know you all don't) I'll be making it longer and tougher the next couple of days so come on out so I can put you to work.(this message is not for those showed on Sat., it's for the rest of you slackers /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Sep 23 2004, 11:09 AM
Efrain finished the round (17-safing par, 18- great par,2-outstanding birdy,1 great par) to my finishing (17 -ok par, 18- safing boggy,2-hacking down the fairway double boggy, 1- a ok par) to beat( yes beat me) by 1
I shot even and efrain -1....dam I am a good coach :D
I think the best for this weekend on the RIVERY will be about -4...-5. Until the rough off the fairway is undercontrol. -8/-9 is a thing of the past.

LOST DISC: 1.13 white polaris

hole 15, da shed hole, shot a anhyzer into the trees and never saw it again. it was coming in high and hard. dunno. there will be a reward on your death bed. ;)

course is looking goood.

beware of the shule on #18. there are some serious thorny vines on the left side of the fairway. i was only 2ft off the fairway and had to use a long stick to get my disc out. those vines are crazy.

HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELPED RIVERY LOOK AS GOOD AS IT DID. AWESOME JOB

Sep 27 2004, 11:52 AM
I agree. I know a LOT of work went into Rivery and it turned out really great. I hadn't played out there in quite a while and was quite impressed. Hole #8 was awesome. I love the new fairway, and I was somehow able to hit the perfect ani line both in practice and in the tournament. Although I almost aced it in practice and flew long in the tournament only getting my 3. I could however see how that hole could hurt me for a 6 or something. Thanks to everyone who put in the work on this course.

This was my first time to see/play Rivery. It looked like there was a lot of work done. Nice, but tough, course. I like it :)

Sep 30 2004, 03:42 PM
I agree that alot of work went into to new hole# 8, with alot of work still to go though.

That has got to be the uglyest hole in disc golf. Maybe once all those tree stumps, and the piles of dead ceadars are taken out it will look a little better but, I doubt it. And what's up with that tree carved into a "V", somebodies ego getting in the way?

It use to be hole #3 was the poorest out there, boring, no personality but #8 takes over for it's pittifullness and butchery of nature.

And no it's not that I took a 4 or worse on it, parked for a two, I just think that it is UGLY.

Saw lot's of orange paint out there around 10-13, is the city fixen to take those holes out?

Hopefully the holes that replace them will be better designed than #8. :(

Sep 30 2004, 03:50 PM
I can't believe you started a new alias just to post that. :)
There's nothing wrong with not liking a hole. I don't think hole 18 at Bart is very worthwhile.

I saw the new hole 8 in development. I haven't seen the finished product yet. From what I saw, I think it's a better hole than the previous hole 8.

Sep 30 2004, 03:59 PM

Actually, I heard someone else ******** about #8. I kindof like it. Just take out the cheater shot and it would be pretty cool. :D

Lou. #18 at Bart in the short. I totally agree.

Yea really, it's OK to keep your real name and publically dislike a hole. I mean, there are a number at Old Settlers that totally blow. :D What do you call it Ed: poking the bull.

Don't let whoever get to you, I personally think the new #8 is a helluva lot better than the old one (boring hyzer). I have done nothing but bogey it or par it. Yes there is still work to be done on it and it will shape up nicely. It plays true to Rivery standards tighter than a nuns c[_]nt. Speaking of c[_]nts this WHATEVER must have one.

As for 18 at Bart... if you don't like it HA. Joel and I made that hole and there was'nt much else to make a new hole. The bank from the old tee was getting wore down and there was'nt a whole lot of options.

With all that being said DEAL with what is made for you to play on or don't play them, play elsewhere.

Without getting into the particulars of the Bart hole, you might want to be careful with the attitude of "deal with it or play elsewhere." I mean. Bart is everyone's course.

In sum, (I personally like #8, but am not bothered that someone does not) I know I am guilty of being an ***** about hole design and should learn some more tact, but sometimes criticism leads to a healthy change. Sometimes, asking for alot of input before changing a hole (Bart, not Rivery) helps.

Ed and I played the Rivery and the path to the lake is in and in the way.
Looks like #10, #11, #12, and #13 are in the way.
It has been know these holes will be taking, but the city also committed to land to replace the lost holes.
Things that will have to happen.
A parking lot or at least fix the road to park under bridge.
Re-design
Re-numbering
LOTS OF WORK.
Ed is getting with the city to determine the opportunities and resources allotted to the disc golf course.
We will keep everyone posted, and if you feel compelled to contact the city your selfs and make inquires. I would not hurt!

I "tried" to play the Rivery Friday. The river is flowing over the bridge if you try you park below Dukes and they are building a Wendy's on the other side of the highway so I couldn't park above hole #1.

I can only imagine that 10,12, and 13 would have water at or surrounding the baskets.

anyone else been out there?

Now that y'all mention it, it is kind of strange that the park really has no designated place to park. Or does it?

That river stays that high for that long. There must be springs a plenty upstream.

Would they use the land from the old challenge course? I can see them wanting to get away from the pond area.

vinnie
Dec 15 2004, 12:22 PM
The land is ours to use. But the flow of the course is the problem. So yes the city is behind us. You lose a few holes here and there, holes like #18 are not a part of the flow.
Bottom line: there is a lot of work to get done out there and we are unsure if the city will help with it.

quick update. All but 2 holes are playable right now. # 10 and # 12. # 10 is about 2-3 feet in the water so you can reach out and get your disc out of the basket. and # 12 is about 20 feet in the water, # 11 & # 13 are about 2-3 feet out of the water and are playing very tough. Other than that the course looks good.

Dec 20 2004, 12:27 PM

Anyhting happening with that plan? I played the course last weekend and it looks like some kind of work had been going on out there. I am thinking of playing again this weekend.
