I don't think that Mark was requesting a move back to the old board (but that may be what he was doing). I certainly didn't request that. I just would like the option of a tree view of every new post since either I last checked them or the last 24 or 48 hours.

There's a feature called "New to me" that's available from the Main Index - look near the bottom at the list of links under "View recent posts". You have to be logged in to see it. That link will give you a page of posts that you haven't seen. Specifically, for each forum, it shows you posts that were made since your last visit to that forum. See the link below for more info.

gee, thanks conrad, i couldn't have figured that out on my own. new to me, cool.

[*****], can't anyone address what i was asking. christ! bottom line, most folks (whatever theo), don't like this as much and don't use it as much.

****, try to point out something and all you get in response is a load of "defend the castle walls at all costs" crap.

you people seem to walk around without a clue. is that what you're like in real life?

where's randy wimm when i need him? the freaking puss!

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...........................

I am curious, do any of you people who complain about this new board, use OTHER mesage boards?

I use MANY different boards, and trust me,the OLD PDGA one SUCKED EGGS!!

Sure, you could see all the posts from the last 24 hours, but if you pull your head out of the sand long enough to look, you can tweak your settings to do about the same here.

granted, it takes getting used to, but ****.....

The old message board was a major pain to maintain. Marty tried to dump it several times for that reason but always relented when the whining got too loud.

I preferred the old one but also much prefer anything that makes PDGA volunteers lives easier. If people don't want to use the new free board then too bad. Using the old free board isn't an option bacause it is too time-intensive to maintain.

Some time soon we'll be upgrading to UBB 6.4, and along with moving our modifications forward I've tweaked the "new to me" feature to be a lot simpler. It'll show posts that have been made since the last time you used the "new to me" feature. They'll be shown as search results.

Also, you'll be able to change your rating of a thread or user. It seemed kind of silly to me that once you rated something you could never change it.

For some reason it seems that the new upgrade of the board has brought back the problems of the old board for me. It shows me page 20 on a thread but there are no posts on the page. Any ideas why? Also it seems that my board has a minimized look to it.

You made a very serious implementation mistake in assuming that no one would ever want to ignore an administrator!

There is only one user on this entire board that I wish to ignore, and I can't because he has the A-flag next to his name, which in his case probably stands for something other than "administrator"!

Whatever you all did to the board, undo it!! Just when people get used to something, you had to make it different. Change is not always a good thing!

Actually, that decision was made by UBB, which you can see if you follow the link at the bottom to get to their documentation. You can't ignore moderators either (moot since we don't have moderated forums). I'm not sure why; seems to me you should be able to ignore anyone you feel like ignoring. I'll check into whether there's a good reason for it.

I've noticed that both before and after the recent upgrade, for threads that have a lot of replies. It's a known bug that I'll look at at some point.

That problem has been fixed, as well as the one where you click on the "Last post" and get a page with no posts.

I miss the "Mark All As Read" feature.

And would like a way to "Go To Last Post" on a thread with one click.

I miss the "Mark All As Read" feature.

Still available under "My Home", just not as handy as having it on the front page.

And would like a way to "Go To Last Post" on a thread with one click.

When viewing the list of threads, click on the name of the poster in the right-most column. This takes you to the last post in the thread.

UBB moved that to "My Home" as part of the upgrade. I could add that link back into the nav area if people want it.

For some reason unknown to me the board seems to be showing that there is still posts unchecked (in a red number) even after I check the thread. For example, the midrange thread in equipment will show 3 new posts so I check it out, see the new posts, and then hit equipment up top to return to the list of equipment thread, but the midrange thread will still have a 3 next to it. If I hit PDGA topics up top it takes me to the main discussion page and shows that their would be no new posts in the equipment section of the board which is normal.

From time to time, I see message board users 'bumping' threads up to the first page and complaining about blank pages, which occur due to old message board crashes and the resulting user deletions. You're likely still using the default display preferences.

To make for a much better message board experience, click on My Home, then Edit for Display preferences, number of shown threads, languages, colors...

Then make the default display the Infopop style sheet (skin) as well as the following:

Default display mode: Flat mode
Default view: Collapsed threads
Total parent posts to show per page: 99
Total posts to show on one page when viewing a post in flat mode: 99
TextArea columns: 60
TextArea rows: 5

With the new message board software upgrade, the 'Infopop' style sheet (skin) doesn't have a lot of contrast. I've found that the 'Green Day' style sheet (skin) makes for a much better message board experience.

Click on My Home, then Edit for Display preferences, number of shown topics, languages, colors...

Then where it says: Which style sheet (skin) do you want to use for your display? choose Green Day.

The following settings are also helpful:
Default display mode: Flat mode
Default view: Collapsed threads
Total parent posts to show per page: 99
Total posts to show on one page when viewing a post in flat mode: 99
TextArea columns: 60
TextArea rows: 5

Strange thing.

Infopop at work has blue text.
Infopop at home has orange text.

Yeah, I didn't dig the lack of contrast or the orange links associated with Infopop. Green Day is the next best thing.
