Got mine today along with the Z-Talon. Thanks Discraft! About to head out to the field. Full report in a bit.

Dec 11 2002, 09:14 PM
You really want to know what I think about my z-wasp? Ok, Ill tell you. Not quite as stable as an 01 CE Roc, but it does have considerablely more glide. Now I will tell you how to throw it. Throw it to the right of the basket, and it will get left. Do not put any hyzer angle on it, for it will go too far left(unless you are going to put some umph behind it). That is my observation, I will be carrying one for the remainder of my disc golf carreer. Thanks for reading.

Hey Scott, worn that thing out, have ya. It is almost three years old, isn't it. Actually, I have an even amount of bags and carts, so I don't have an extra bag to send you. However, you can order one on-line from Sky South (that's where I get 'em) for the same price:

In the "Departments" window, click on "bags" and then "Sky South Bags" and scroll to the bottom.

Now that you've discovered the Z-Wasp, treat yourself to a Z-Talon. You won't regret it!

Dec 13 2002, 05:47 PM
I've hear the talon compared to a Teebird, My-Hero. It certainly doesn't look like a Teebird and I never hear whether it was TL or T. If it's similar to the TL, it would be great. I now have in Z, the Xtreme, Predator, Wasp & Xpress. I just ordered a fly-dyed Z Magnet. I heard It's flippy though, as opposed to the stable CE Avair. I plan on picking up a Wildcat & Talon. That should do except for a straight/turnover mid-range similar QMS. Oh yeah, I'll need a putter. Swirl or Soft Magnet?

Dec 13 2002, 07:54 PM
If you don't have the Z Wildcat yet you don't have the best disc on the market! Just my opinion! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

btl.

Dec 13 2002, 08:12 PM
The Talon is faster and more overstable than the Teebird. The Z-Magnet is far from flippy. I used to throw beat up Rocs for straight/turnover shots, but now am in love with the X Comet.

Dec 14 2002, 12:00 AM
For everyone who is still freaking out about the ce to pro plastic valkyrie change, or who is trying to get a 30 dollar ce valk of ebay, just spend $12 on a z wildcat. I primarily have thrown ce valks for several months now for my pure D shots. I picked up a Z-wildcat last weekend just to check it out. At the soccer field the other day in the cold, I threw it 4 different times further than I have ever thrown any other disc. It really isn't overstable like the disc says, but rather medium stablility. The flight is alot like a ce valk...throw it with a little hyzer, and it will flip up, then turn a little, then fly really straight and fade off a little at the end. I have a medium arm, maxing out at about 350 golf distance, and this disc flys really good for my arm. check one out!

Dec 14 2002, 01:52 AM
I completely agree with the above post. Fair Hays, you're right. There. I said it.

Sharky
Dec 14 2002, 09:26 AM
No, you guys are incorrect. The Z-Wildcat has more stability than a CE Valk. I am carrying one in my bag now as it predictably goes fast, straight, and long, before coming back stable. It is similar to the Z-Reaper which I don't hear to much about anymore.

Dec 14 2002, 11:04 AM
The Z Wildcat is most similar to the first batch of JK Pro Valkyries - these where a little more over stable than the typical valkyrie.

From what I've heard about the new BEAST, I think that it will end up being very similar to the Z Wildcat. If so, looks like Discraft got there first this time! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

btl.

Dec 14 2002, 11:43 AM
Mark,

Which version of the valk do you mean? There are so many.

Dec 14 2002, 04:05 PM
Why don't we hear much about the Z-reaper anymore? It is still my main driver.

Sharky
Dec 15 2002, 11:10 AM
Not sure, one of the average stability runs though.

Dec 15 2002, 11:53 PM
In my opinion the Z-wildcat gets more glide than any other disc ive ever thrown. Z-wasp cmon consistent mold with controlability, all i need is a x-magnet and ill be ready to take on any course... now thats "keeping it real"

Dec 16 2002, 01:22 AM
the wildcat is discrafts teebird....the wildcat is faster, but they have about the same amount of glide.

Dec 16 2002, 01:48 AM
I **love** the ColorMax Z Reaper... can't wait until my wasp and talon get here.

Dec 16 2002, 01:57 AM
Justin....The z-wildcat is a twist between a tee bird and Valk..meaning its gets more glide than a tee bird but as fast as a valk...

Dec 19 2002, 12:10 PM
For everyone out there who has wanted an overstable mrv/roc shaped disc. Your wait is over, this disc is the real deal. Personally I have never liked the feel of ANY kind of candy mid-range in my hand. I always felt they were to slippery for the kind of touch needed for mid-range shots. This disc feels very good in the hand, however, and will perfectly compliment a good understable mid-range.

Happy experimenting.

Z wasps in the shop/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif The order came in the 24th. I just got a chance to throw it today, very nice, sturdy, and mean.

Dec 27 2002, 01:56 AM
I tossed my Z Wasp last weekend and I have to say that the flight was perfect! Well not perfect I guess since I didn't ace everytime...

Very stable when thrown hard or into the wind. Faster than I had expected though. I had some trouble getting the distance right on touch shots. I'm 99% sure that was due to the change from my MRX to the Wasp.

The only complaint I have is that I still prefer the X Plastic to the Z. If the only way to get an elite X Wasp for 2003 is through tournament sponsorship you can expect a TON to be ordered for the 2003 Riverside Open! ..... all for me /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

YES sir, I already banged a 160' birdie with mine, good thing my drive fell short or I would never had the opportunity to hit the bird!

Jan 08 2003, 09:09 PM
The Comet was an excellent replacement for my broken in ROC, and the Wasp is better than a new ROC.

Don't give up on the Comet! Maybe the most under appreciated disc out there.

Jan 08 2003, 11:47 PM
Just want to add more props for the Wasp.. threw it for 5 teeshots out of 19 holes in my round today, all five of those occasions I ended up parked within 20'. It's the Roc I always dreamed of(I never got down with the CE type), nice and stable, super predictable for accuracy.

My first non-putter disc from Discraft, and my new favorite.

Jan 09 2003, 01:01 AM
I aced with my Z-Wasp on Sunday in our local ace pot. Luckily, the acepot had been cleaned out the week before, so I was only burdened with $16 for my troubles.

Ps. I bought another one.

Jan 09 2003, 01:23 AM
greg, have you tried any Hawks. I am also a convert to Discraft and am really liking the regular D series Hawk. It flies like my seasoned Sannies. I also am throwing the Wasp, but not Z Wasp yet because of the snow.

Jan 09 2003, 01:34 AM
Matt - I haven't tried any Hawks yet. Actually I did throw a Z-Hawk once. It didn't seem to glide very well. I like the smooth glide the Comet has. I'm not sure if I like the D-Plastic. I love the X plastic and can use the Z plastic. I don't want to get hooked on the old HD Hawk or old plastic either. Plus the Comet is easily available in beefier weights.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season.

Yep, the z wasp is a 12 dollar ce roc. Very predictable and pretty overstable too. A nice disc!

Jan 10 2003, 03:04 PM
Here's a question for you non-Dcraft hyping/bashing types:

How does the flight of a z-Wasp compare to a DX Roc?

(As a background, I like DX Rocs. I can get 'em ~350'. I'm curious about the z-wasp because of it's potential durability, but don't want something that really isn't that straight of a disc. [read: overstable])

Thanks!

Daniel

Jan 10 2003, 04:02 PM
I may be considered a 'Discraft hyping type' but I'll give you a straight answer as always.

I used to throw beat up KC Rocs or DX Rocs for straight shots. I would use new KC Rocs when overstability was needed. The Z Wasp is more overstable than a KC Roc. It can be thrown out straight if you give it a good punch but it WILL come back pretty hard at the end.

I think you should look into getting a Comet or a Hawk /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 10 2003, 04:10 PM
Thanks, Greg!

Even though I had been pretty much sold on Teebirds, I recently bought a Z-Wildcat and was truly shocked at how straight and how fast it was! I outdistanced my Teebirds easily by 30-40 feet!

I can relate, Daniel...

I recently tried a Z-Talon, since I had heard they flew like a CE Teebird, and I liked it a LOT. Next thing I know, I have added the Z-Talon to my bag, and now I'm looking to get a couple of Z-Wildcats, as well, to replace all my fickle CE Valks.

But I REFUSE to replace my flat-top KC Rocs with the Wasp.... won't do it... can't make me... must resist.......

Jan 10 2003, 05:10 PM
YOU will be assimulated

Jan 10 2003, 05:35 PM
Come to think of it, Greg, if you'd really want to send me one or two hawks and/or comets, (or have dcraft do it), go right ahead! I'll gladly try 'em.../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 10 2003, 05:48 PM
Daniel,

I have recently worn in a photon wasp (180ish) and it is now in that perfect "fly's how you throw it" condition.

There is nothing sweeter than a disc when it reaches this phase of it's life cycle.

The Z-Wasp is overstable, but you need that too you know. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 10 2003, 06:29 PM
I wish I was in a position to send out some plastic. I would feel guilty though. Kind of like a drug dealer.... 'cause I know once you tried it you would be HOOKED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Honestly, I never thought I would find discs to replace my KC Rocs. The MRX was an 'ok' replacement for overstable shots but the Z Wasp is better than anything I have thrown before.

The Z Wasp is a good disc! After 2 months or using it as my primary mid-range, I found myself longing for my Z MRV instead. I found I had to throw the ZW harder to get it to do what the ZMRV does for me, which inturn was not working. After years and years of a faster mid-range, it seems a little too slow for my game . "Slower" is a good thing for some people and not for others. I'm sticking with my ZMRV for overstable mid-range shots. I, like JD, seasoned a D Wasp. $$$! This disc will remain in my bag for the slow gentle turn shot. It's a good problem to have, ya just need to figure what works for you!!!!

I gave in and picked me up a Z-Wasp this weekend. I haven't thrown it much, yet, but I can already tell it will likely not replace my flat-top Rocs... it fades too hard on the end to be of much use for me. Besides, I already have a CE Spider that does the same thing, and I'm already used to that disc.

Jan 13 2003, 06:08 PM
Hey Timmy - May I suggest the Z Hawk? I have switched to it as my sole midrange disc (keeping the D Hawk for the turnover in the bag . . . ). It's not as "heavy" as the Wasp but extremely accurate.

Hope the weather in MN is being kind to you (he he he). We're still at that little spot on the weather map that is red (for 70 - 80's). /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I've been having a lot of problems finding consistent runs in wasps. I have now own four different one. The first was a 173 fly dye and it did exactly what i was told it would do, be an overstable midrange. I then bought a 167 fly dye to increase my distance, and to have another overstable midrange in my bag since my first one was three years old and wasn't the same. The 167 was actually more overstable than the 173 new. I lost the 173 a while back and went out and got another 173 in yellow. this thing threw like a broke in MRV. Then I got a 178 fly dye and it was a little better but threw stable.
Should I be looking closer at the dome heigth to find one that will be overstable? Would it be worthwhile to find a first run? Anybody else have troubles finding a consistant Wasp? Thanks for reading.

May 03 2005, 11:41 AM
First runs are muy overstable.

If you want to compare stabilities, try to get the same weights in the same run.

I want some first runs. Anyone got any 175+ 1st Runs they want to trade to me???

Luke Butch
May 03 2005, 01:47 PM
I want some too. IMO 1st runs were awesome. My favorite driver for sure. Even though I have a couple back ups there is nothing wrong with more. I bought some over the off season for around $11. I don't think I'd sell them for $20+ now.

Try buying 2 at the same time, same color, same weight. You won't have any problems then. You may want to stay away from dyed discs if you are having probelms with consistancy- but that discussion does not belong on this thread.
