I'm trying to decide between the Revolution Club, Revolution Casual, Gateway Weekend Deluxe, and DTW PDGA bags. (I'm hoping to pick one up at Rock Hill this weekend.) They're all roughly the same capacity and price, so those won't be factors. Do any of them have extra features that I should be aware of? Which would you go with, and why? Thanks. (Sponsored players, Dave H, and Dave M, feel free to chime in, but I'm particularly interested in responses from the non-sponsored crowd.)

Felix, do you have my Bag Buyer's Guide to compare the features? If you need it drop me an e-mail.
I have said it before and I'll say it again...REVOLUTION!! My first bag (CUBE) fell apart in less than one year. My Revolution bag is going strong after two years of steady use and abuse. I have used it as a backpack and as carry on luggage. When I was on the East Coast I loved the rain flap (rarely used in SoCal), and the new frame design is a great improvement. GREAT BAG! DD
Felix- First three rules in bag selection are:
REVOLUTION,REVOLUTION, REVOLUTION
I got one of the original revolution bags approx 5-6 years old. Not a sign of wear of any of the seams all zippers function perfectly aside from the original purple color faded to a steel blue, there is nothing wrong with it.
The quality is unmatched!
Dave's just done some enhancements over the years to meet the requirements of TEAM REVOLUTION, but the same quality and workmanship still goes into every bag.
It will be the last bag you ever need to buy...
Bad for Dave...good for us!

REVOLUTION ROCKS!!!
Felix, I have had a Revolution for over a year now and it is the best bag I have used so far. I have had a Mega Cube, a Gateway, an Innova and at least 2 or 3 others.
The only drawback to the Revolution is that it is a little pricey. The flip side to that is you get what you pay for.
If you decide on the Revolution I would suggest you also get a Quad Shock shoulder strap as well.
Quad Shock on the Revolution bag is it! I have never been so comfortable while playing disc golf. I can easily see why DD would use it while hiking. It is a great bag!

Dave H at Revolution,
I'm updating my Bag Buyer's Guide and I'm wondering if you still make the Casual bag. I don't see it listed on your website or in your DGWN ad. Do you still sell the Casual bag? And how much do you sell the Club bag for now?
I would have to recommend the Revolution bag over all the others I have possesed. There is a cheaper version (club bag) that is just as good as any other out there.

Lowe-
I still have some of the REVOLUTION Casual Bags available. There hasn't been a ton of demand for the bag and its not something that we plan to have in the line in the future.
However, I just received the first batch of a completely new 8-10 disc bag called The MINI. It is based on the CLUB Bag design with zipper top, 1 zipper pocket, front utility pocket, padded back, mesh waterbottle holder, nylon utility handles, and even an internal frame.
Check out some pictures at our all-new website:
http://www.discgolfer.com
(The site redesign is still in progress so keep checking back over the next few days for more pictures and descriptions...)
The MINI is MADE IN USA of 500d cordura and sells for $40. It comes in a bunch of different colors including Gold, Lime Geen and Purple as well as Lake Blue, and Spruce. I think it's really the first "serious" dg-specific bag for golfers that want to travel light!
As for the CLUB Bag, the price is $55. There are several strap upgrade options that make this one of the best values available for disc golfers looking for a pro-style bag with an internal frame.
Thanks,
-Dave

Bringing this back up...
I'm considering getting a new bag soon. Currently I have an Innova small bag. I am testing a sort of hackneyed addition to it...I have the strap fed through the rings and clipped to the metal rings on the back of an old (circa 1943) US Army courier bag to provide myself with about 5-6 discs extra carrying capacity and pockets better suited for pencils and scorecards than the ones on the bag. This setup has the added advantage of the ability to switch very quickly to carrying either component by itself. However, it isn't perfect, and if I decide it doesn't suit my purposes I am planning on getting something with slightly larger capacity. What I'm looking for is something sturdy that will hold about 12-15 discs, maybe a couple more, but be comfortable to carry and not become floppy if I only carry about 10...my standard collection is 4 drivers, 2-4 midranges, and 2 putters, but I also like to carry a couple backups, a couple discs for throwing over water (psychological convenience...I'm less nervous throwing a disc over water that I don't need for the rest of the course and therefore less likely to choke), new discs I'm comparing to my standards to see if I should switch, and so on. I also typically carry a drink (1.5 liter Aquafina bottle, usually of tea), a cleaning rag, a drying towel, an extra towel on wet days, an umbrella on rainy days, my cell phone, and often a flashlight. If I do get a new bag I would like it to have a convenient place to carry a spare shirt.
Now that I've given far too detailed an idea of what I'm looking for a bag to do...
The main choices I'm looking at right now are the Gateway Weekend Deluxe, the Innova Deluxe, the PDGA Tour Bag, and the Revolution Club Bag. Cost and durability are of about equal importance to me currently...if two bags are both adequate for my purposes, I only want to shell out for the more durable one if the cheaper one is liable to fall apart in a few months or so. I do use them pretty roughly though. As far as features go...if I get a new bag, I definitely want a water bottle pocket that can hold my 1.5 liter bottle (and stand up to it...the seam on one side has ripped loose and I've stapled it back on my current bag) and a scorecard/pencil pocket that's easier to get to than the velcro pocket inside my innova bag, preferably with a sleeve that actually holds the pencil upright. Other features I'll pretty much be weighing along with durability and price. I apologize if I've missed any relevant info in my research (I only skimmed most of the threads here because a lot of the information seemed to be about even larger bags) but basically what I'm looking for is this...are there other similar bags I should consider, which of those four are the most durable, would any of them be likely to have trouble with my water bottle, which if any have the kind of scorecard pocket I described, and anything that seems relevant that I don't appear to have thought of. Who wants to help me out? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jerald...Revolution makes the yellow and black, and it is so bling-bling that the BUS couldn't drive past it without flashing a ghetto smile. It is the cheap one too...like $50-60 straight on the internet site: revolution.com... They are great bags!
Hey BS, thanks. I looked at that one on the web site and it looks like there is no water bottle holder. What is up with that? That is the second most important thing next to the discs. Did I see it wrong?
Jerald, look under the "features". Water bottle holder is listed there.
Is there a pix or the Revolution Texas edition team bag? Would like to see how they designed two water bottle pockets.

Jerald-
The CLUB Bag absolutely has a water bottle holder. And as BS mentioned, The CLUB comes in a gold and black that would make any Stillers fan proud. Hey, its a 'burg thing!
You can get a good look at the bottle holder if you click on the Spruce Green bag picture in the CLUB Bag section of our website:

If you want some other pictures, let me know and I'll take them with the digital camera.

I received a club bag for my birthday in April, and it is a great product. Very durable. Has a waterbottle holder, easy access to your discs and plenty of pockets.
the strap for the bag is very narrow and that is a tiny flaw for such a great bag, and that can be upgraded.
Go with the Club Bag, best bag at the best price.
Aaron
Dave, Have you ever had complaints about the strap squeaking (incessantly) on your bags? If not, you have now. How can I stop the squeaking? It's driving me nuts! Other than that, the product is great, and I've recommended it to many.

I thought I was the only one. The clips that connect the strap on my Revolution Mini bag squeak too. I'm also wondering if there is a way to stop it.
Chris Hysell
Jun 16 2003, 03:03 PM
It is the plastic clips that make the noise. Fix it with those aluminum mountain climbing carabiners that come from your local dollar store. No more squeaks and they come in fashionable colors.
dave9921
Jun 16 2003, 04:07 PM
Clay and Daniel-
You can lubricate the clips to keep them from squeeking. Put lubricant (like WD40, 3-in-1 oil, or a teflon spray) on the swivel wherer the clip hook meets the d-ring. The heavier the lubricant, the less you'll have to reapply.
Chris's idea of replacing the fastex clips with the dollar store caribeeners is a good suggestion - especially if you like to carry a lot of stuff. Also, for those who want something more than the basic stap that comes with the CLUB Bag, I do have several upgrade options including ProLine Quadshocks, TEAM dualstraps and the nicer shoulder strap that comes with the TEAM Bag.
Thanks!

TK-
The Texas Edition TEAM Bag is the regular TEAM Bag with an oversized bottle holder large enough to accommodate a Nalgen or Gatorade size bottle. The TE TEAM sells for $100 and is available in five 1000denier colors.
Jerald-
The TEAM Bag is not available in the same gold as the CLUB Bag. The two are made of different materials and each material is available in a different range of colors.
The 500denier Cordura used in the CLUB Bag tends to be brighter and more flamboyant. The 1000denier Cordura of the TEAM Bag tend to be more muted and typical of outdoor gear.
Thanks!
-Dave
Gateway makes Tour, Player and Weekend Deluxe bags in yellow and black. These colors are not offered on the website. Email me if you have a special request. We are gearing up some Camo bags as well.
Tim, I am in need of a REAL bag. I recently tried the Innova Tour Bag, and am possitive that they should stick to the disc market. My question is will you have the backpack bag in camo?

I have to say I have had four different bags, and none of them compares to my cart. Check out the similar cart at gottagogottathrow.com. It's listed as All terrain Cart. You can hold 15 discs and a six pack if that is your bent. Mine haas a plexiglass divider with a cell phone pocket, pencil and scorecard holders, rock solid construction with carpet on the inside, noiseless, big ole tires. Always easier to roll than to lift. Plus it's a chair. Anyway, just my .02.
Always easier to roll than to lift.
Depending on the terrain. :)
why dont you just throw your discs in ye olde backpack. If you dont have one, go to goodwill and buy one for $3. Spend the $80 on discs instead. Buying a better bag is not going to make you a better disc golfer, but buying $80 in discs and practicing should.

A tour-style bag (Innova/PDGA/Revolution/Gateway/etc.) with quad-shocks does make a difference.
I just carry a cheapo Prostyle bag...when you only carry 6 discs...don't need a ton of room :)
Now my question is: where do you guys (and girls) store your extra stuff when not playing with it. Are there gigantic bags that can hold 50-60 discs...or do you just toss them in a trash bag the closet???
I ask because I'm up to about 25 discs already...and with the cold weather...they don't like the trunk of my car anymore :)

IMHO. Revolution makes the best bags on the market. Highest quality in materials and workmanship whether it's a club bag, a mini, or the Texas Tour Special.
As for extra storage - a box or tupperware bin works well for me - anywhere where the discs can rest comfortably, i.e. not stressed by weight or deformed.

About 5 years ago I picked up a Plano Outdoors System soft-sided tackle box from Academy. It was about $7.
Made out of tough cordura...has three large outside zippered pockets, bag holds 12-14 disc, plus room inside bag for two bottles of gatorade...or 16-18 disc total without the bottle + a rain flap.
It looks great, is easy to carry, holds everything I need, and has held up to extensive use and abuse.
Why anybody who's not sponsored would pay 8 - 15 times what I paid for a 'brand' disc golf bag is beyond me.
Revolution Bags - hands down the best on the market. Best Quality (material and sturdiness) as well as a ton of extra storage room for the Team Bag. Although it only has one bottle holder you cant always put 3 12 oz. bottled waters in one of the zippered pockets or either tightly squeeze a quart sized cooler in there. Why seemingly expensive to probably most they do make one the greatest birthday or christmas presents that a disc golfer can get.

I've been using an Innova tour bag since about February with no complaints. Holds a lot of discs and a lot of stuff in the end pockets.
I might not be that hard on bags, though, as I had a Gateway tour bag for several years that I never had any problems with. Okay I got the Revolution Bag. The question is are you people who already have one of these using the frame/divider that Dave includes that you assemble and insert? I can't decide if it's really necessary. It certainly cuts down on the interior space. Is the bag weakened without this thing? So please let me know, are you using the bag with or without this frame/divider? Thanks.
I use the divider. It can hold 8 drivers and 6 midranges with the divider in which is more than enough discs for me. If I carry more discs than the divider will hold I just put them in the big pockets. I also think the divider adds to the overall sturdiness of the bag.

I have the TE Team Revolution Bag and I used it with and without the divider. It doesn't weaken anything. It is just a matter of choice. Sometimes I like have the divider to separate my driver and mid-range/putters. All in all it is the Cadillac of Disc Golf Bags!! They handle the hot, cold, wet scenarios. They are pricey, but trust me it is worth it. They back the bag up with a Lifetime Warranty! I back this bag 100% and I will even post there site here to prove it. Go with a PDGA bag. It's a very durable bag at a great price. I paid $50 for it...a bag that will hold up to 20 discs (if you take out the stupid accordian divider which wastes space), has two bottle holders (a must in Texas), two big pockets for keys, wallet, bandaids, whatever, good putter pocket, and two other side pockets. I made my own support frame out of thin PVC pipe and it holds the discs upright and inline very well.

i have a regular innova bag that i got for $25 from play it again sports in plano roughly 9 months ago...list was $35 but they told me they'd give me 10 bucks off any bag in the store.
i think it's only supposed to hold 15 discs or so (it came with two 5-disc accordian dividers) but i can fit 20-22 discs with no problem...(5 in each accordian divider, parallel to the putter pocket, 5 loose discs between the two accordians, two discs perpendicular to the others tucked into each end, 1 or 2 putters in the putter pocket). and that still leaves a big, insulated water pocket, a mini/scorecard pocket, and a big zipper end pocket for whatever.
this bag has been through lots of hell (easily 500+ rounds) and
shows no signs of wear. those revolution bags are cool, but i dont think you need to spend 4x as much money, imho, to get a sturdy bag. if you are more concerned with aesthetics than practicality, then go for it, but the mid-range innova bag seems fine, and sounds like it fits just as many, if not more, discs than the revolution or pdga bags.

Sounds like i might have to invest in a Revolution bag.
Can i fit 20 Discs in the main pocket???
If so this would be a great bag for me. I have an Innova tour bag right now which is great it easily fits the 22 discs i carry and i put a frame in the bottom of it. The pockets are huge and i can carry everything i want.
The problem with all the revolution bags except the Texas team bag are the Watter Holders are just TO FREAKIN SMALL. Let me know how many discs i can fit in this bad boy and i might have to get my hands on one.
Well, 16 months or so after starting this thread, I'll chime back in and report that I went with the Innova Tour bag. My only complaints are:
1) it holds too freakin' much. I always end up stuffing the end pockets full of minis, band-aids, sharpies, extra towels, extra socks, munchies, and other assorted knick-knacks, and carrying around 18-20 discs. I usually end up in a quandry, trying to decide, "Ok, what I throw here? Should I throw this disc or that disc?" then blowing the shot because in the back of my mind I'm worried I chose the wrong disc. What I really need is a bag that holds maybe 3 drivers, a couple of midranges, and a putter, tops, and has a water bottle holder.
2) it's too dang durable. You'd think after 16 months of use, it would show at least a little wear around the edges, but NOOOO! Do you know how hard to look like a "serious" disc glofer when the condition of your bag shouts, "Newbie Alert! Newbie Alert!"???? :D

I have had my innova tour bag for a little over a month now, and there is some noticeable wear. I play at least a round or two every day of the week so it gets used often.
I have heard nothing but great things about those revolution bags. If you are looking for a bag for just discs and not a lot of space to carry extra stuff on trips and such those bags look like the best buy.
Fore- One solution would be to have a couple of each driver (6 discs but only 3 drivers).... I carry 5 different drivers but thats about 10 discs for me... It makes selection easier to know what each of your drivers does for you, midrange I just have rocs in my bag so thats not a big one either. So get out to those fields and start carrying fewer kinds of discs and your scores will start dropping ;)
My Revolution bag holds 8-9 drivers on one side and 5-6 midrange/putter type discs on the otherside. The putter pocket itself will hold 2 putters. The two large zipper pockets can hold 4 discs a piece at least.

Even though the REVOLUTION TEAM Bag has a smaller footprint than some other pro-style bags doesn't mean you can't carry as much of the essential extras required during your round or while traveling.
Our design is a bit taller than others and features two 2" x 10" x 9" zippered pockets. You can fit an extra sweatshirt, towels, food or water bottle in either of the pockets without compromising space for discs in the main compartment. Plus, our zippers are the beefiest around, so stuff those pockets full - we've never had one blown zipper in over four years of production.
Granted, the TEAM Bag is not for those who want to carry 20+ discs regularly. But after you've been playing for a while, you'll realize that carrying 20+ discs only weighs you down and confuses you with too many options.
Let us not forget that the REVOLUTION TEAM Bags are designed by disc golfers and MADE IN USA from the best USA made materials and hardware available.
Thanks,
-Dave

Ditto all the good things you have read about the Revolution Team bags. Mainly I am responding to Dave's comment on decreasing the number of discs you carry with greater experience. Recently I played a round on my home course carrying only a Z-Wildcat, a Champ Cobra and a UV Challenger in a plastic bag as I carried tools doing course maintenance. I threw a new personal best. My response to this was to remove one midrange and one driver from my revolution bag. Ya gotta take baby steps. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess I really never looked that much into them. From pictures they just didnt look like they had that extra pocket space to them.
I will definately take a good look at your bags when I am in the market for a new one!

I have a question. Why the heck doesn't one of these bag manufacturers make one that has the **** BACKPACK STRAPS BUILT IN!!!!!???!!!!??
It seems so obvious. Why should one buy a bag for $60 (or $40 or whatever) and then have to buy a $30 strap hitch thingy???????
Gateway makes a Backpack Bag.

Are the revolution bags machine washable (obviously without the frame)????

I also agree. I am from Wisconsin and we play year round. Through rain, mud, hail, snow and ice! The Revolution TE Team Bag handles the weather with a breeze.

Ryinya-
You can machine wash your REVOLUTION bag. Take your frame and discs out and throw the bag in the washing machine by itself. If it is really dirty, you can turn it inside out and wash it again.
Once you are finished washing the bag, take it out and hang dry overnight. Should come out looking clean, fresh, and ready for your next round.
Thanks,

I bought a TE Team bag a few months ago and started using it right away. I have not been dissapointed. This is the best bag available. It is well suited for those tournament rounds where you want to carry extra gear and discs. There is plenty room for everything you want to bring with you.
I'm happy to hear that it is machine washable. I have not tried to wash other bags in the past for fear that they would rip or tear. This just adds to the value of the bag.

Well, 16 months or so after starting this thread, I'll chime back in and report that I went with the Innova Tour bag.
Fore,
Why did you decide to get the Innova bag? Have you ever seen the Gateway bag that you were considering?
