I'm voting either Viking or DX Beast.

Oct 31 2003, 12:20 AM
I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say it will be a first run DX viking, possibly a first appearance of the viking in DX.

No way Rob. The real distance guys (the ones who actually have a chance to set records) practice with a specific mold and train to get ready for these competitions. No way they will switch up to something new at the last second.

I put my money on Socal local Joel Hall.
16 and stringy, but throws a ton!!!

It should be very nice to see all these new discs flying far across the desert sands.....

Im interested to see what a "Crush" can do in the hands of a "True" Big Arm. I watched Sonny Ashby literally stomp some holes that have never been 3'd before. One is about 1200' and uphill. Absolutly incredible as to how far that disc actually flys. He let me have a rip at it once and I threw a very easy hyser well over 500'.
Too bad I love Innova so much, I might have to hide 1 or 2 of those behind my T-Birds.
Id love to have a rip out in the "D" but my schedules just dont let us ex-state distance champs get out as much anymore. http://www.pdga.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif

Oct 31 2003, 07:38 PM
Rhett,
maybe, but it sure would be fun to see a huge anhyzer from Joel sail away!!!

just remember i said it first.......hahaha

Has anyone seen the forecast for BIG D?
Will anyone break 800' again?
Will there be a new world record...820'+ / 250m+ ??
Jarvis vs Sandstrom...DUEL IN THE D!!!
...ought to be a pay-per-view!! :D

Nov 07 2003, 01:51 PM
Other than Sandstrom, will there be any Discraft Big Arms there?

Nov 07 2003, 02:24 PM
Sonny Ashby can throw a country mile. I'd consider him a lil' BIG arm!

Nov 07 2003, 04:15 PM
is that Epic gonna be tossed in the desert at all? I'd like to see a big arm chuck that thing either flat or thumber. IF the epic doesnt grab the title itll be the viking fer sure

Results?

Nov 10 2003, 04:46 PM
I just got off the phone with a guy at DTWorld.com. Longest throw was by Christian Voigt. 219 meters with a Talon. Complete results will be on their website later in the week.

Any indication whether it was the original Talon or the retooled Talon?

Just wanted to thank Mark for running this event. Had a blast and wish I could've stayed for all three days. Hope you guys didn't hurt yourselves too bad at the State Line. ;) Looking forward to next year. I'll actually practice and bring my own plastic!

RE-TOOLED TALON!?!?!?

Inquiring minds want to know...... :D

Nov 11 2003, 05:20 PM
Why later in the week?!? It's been OVER for TWO full days now!
...it's hard to understand why a THREE day event can't be alloted TWO minutes to cut and paste results when it's timely, and interest is at its peak...[?!?]

Nov 11 2003, 05:51 PM
Sounds to me like meat should've volunteered to go to the event and gather/post results.

Nov 12 2003, 02:44 AM
Had I returned in time to make the trip I could have; had I been in charge of postmentation, results would have been up the eve of the 9th...that's only good [ugh] business sense, methinks.

...and I hope that's a signature line and not an admonition; someone should know better...

rhett
Nov 12 2003, 01:54 PM
It's a signature line *AND* a suggestion for every disc golfer everywhere. :)

The Big D things aren't PDGA things, and no one is under any obligation via any sanctioning agreements to post results at all, let alone within hours of the event finish. Sure it would be nice, but so would dg tourney with a million dollar payout.

It was a Z-Talon.

The poor Turnout mentioned on the website, probably was hurt by it being on the Same weekend, as a Supertour in Arlington TEXAS, that many touring pros attend every year...

Of course, I could be completely wrong.....

Thanks for posting a link to the results, for thise of us who can barely even dream of such distance.....

Nov 12 2003, 04:42 PM
No surprise about Big Nate rocking those at Big D. Here he is canning the CTP at Santa Maria this year.

Help me out here. I'm looking at the table of results and see the 1 person with 9 throws; 1 with 8 throws; 1 with 4 throws; 7 with 3 throws and 1 with 1 throw.

Never seen one of these events, How are they (or this one) structured so that there is such a divergence between the number of throws each competitor had?

Nov 12 2003, 05:19 PM
Right on, Rhett...
Thanks for the results, DTW; although I'm not sure why you call the turnout VERY poor: after 'only' [email protected] BD IV, and [email protected] BD III...you must be referring to the disappointing lack of women participants?!?
May I make a suggestion, DTW? For BD VI, announce the event ASAP, and OFTEN [as opposed to ONCE a month before]!!!

...now reverting from hot pastrami to cold cut mode...

Well Said.....PROMOTION is the key to getting numbers.....and doing something that interrest people...

Which i would think a BIG D competition, would.....spectators, at least...

Nov 12 2003, 05:35 PM
Oh yeah: Word here is Joel didn't compete because he felt he 'wasn't ready' ...pity he didn't know about the event around the time of BD III [when he was 15], or he "for sure" would/could have set the junior record...I'll get the 'official' excuse when I confront him in person...

What the site said about saturday being "unusually calm" was an understatement! I was there all day saturday and the wind never went above 8 miles an hour. When it got to 8, all the throwers got ready, then it died down to 4 or less. I wish I could've been there on friday for the 15-18mph wind, and to watch Voight throw a talon 219m!
Oh, well, hopefully it will be better next year!

Nov 14 2003, 01:58 AM
Oh yeah, continued: Any word of mini, or "non-turf roller" contestmentation?

Nov 16 2003, 12:57 AM
I still haven't heard from Joel in person, but a reliable source informed me that he has a hand injury, suffered whilst playing basketball. But "Eldo Nino" will only be 17 the time Big D VI comes around, so no hurry...you read it here first: I predict he'll eclipse 200 M no later than Big D VIII. He's throwing [pre-injury] NOW roughly what Charlie Beal was in his prime, and that's with a flat throw...no telling what he'll do when he learns the distance shot.
