Jan 07 2003, 12:36 AM
Okay Rodney, to say that any standings in which Randy Wimm and I both fell out of the top 5 "might" be skewed by the holidays is an understatement of biblical proportions.

Kids back to school (just today), life back to normal, 20 minis and 3 B-tiers in '03 to talk about? Sheesh, dream on, Metal.

We should feel that posting messages is a privilege in this DISCUSSION area of the PDGA's web site. Sure we are going to have some fun with others, but personal attacks and taking the "wise guy" thing to the highest level is most unnecessary and naive. I am a disc golf promoter and love to see our game grow and prosper. Attitude can do so much good for that cause, on and off the disc golf course, especially when others initial impression of disc golf, and its community, is a favorable one. For the most part, the ideas expressed here in DISCUSSION have been most productive for the cause of the PDGA. Keep the ideas coming in everyone for the our great organization that I am proud to be a part of since 1993.

Bill Mikuliewicz
PDGA #7378

Feb 13 2003, 12:35 AM
Dud, I'm not ready yet. My training is incomplete. You might need to take this one.

BTW Bill, everything from your fourth sentence on is dead on accurate. Don't take this stuff too seriously, nobody else does. Its a good forum for sharing ideas, info, updates and the like, but it has a personality too.

It be's what it be's.

(This coming from they same guy who's first posts were telling Nick and Randy to be nice to each other. What a dweeb I was.)

Feb 13 2003, 01:41 AM
Learn well, the teaching I give now, builds a better tomorrow, it does...

"We should feel that posting messages is a privilege in this DISCUSSION area of the PDGA's web site." Who do you think you are to tell me how to feel? How do you know that everyone on this baord doesnt already "feel" as you? You crawl from under a rock and jump on here and preach...you think your friggen Jesus?

"Sure we are going to have some fun with others, but personal attacks and taking the "wise guy" thing to the highest level is most unnecessary and naive." How do you get "naive" outta giving people [*****]? Maybe a dictionary could help you with your wording...In your pretty little world of green pastures and rolling meadows lives a beast. this animal is free to roam and may do as he sees fit, he hunts, he sleeps and he does as he pleases. Since he lives in the FREE world he is granted the right to do such things, unless he is deemed a pud. The joking and tom-foolery is enjoyed by many and hated by some. You dont like it? Try moving to North Korea?

"I am a disc golf promoter and love to see our game grow and prosper." Glad to hear it, we could use more people that do this.

"Attitude can do so much good for that cause, on and off the disc golf course, especially when others initial impression of disc golf, and its community, is a favorable one." Ya, so...

"For the most part, the ideas expressed here in DISCUSSION have been most productive for the cause of the PDGA." So then what are you trying to say...You start by saying we should be thankful then switch to mean people [*****] and now this. I think guys like you should just put the friggen drugs down and walk away from them, they will just rot your brain.

"Keep the ideas coming in everyone for the our great organization that I am proud to be a part of since 1993." I hope you stop watching re-runs of The "leave it to Beaver" show and take things with a grain of salt. Just think, if everyone was like you...we wouldn't have any wars! Now that would be a [*****] boring society, wouldn't it?

Give me the delete button and I'll set up a smack talkin' members only pig sty for doodie to wallow in. Where only the brave (or stupid) may choose to venture.

This message board is great! But it could serve a slightly different purpose. All it would involve is the will to do it, and I've got that.

Then we would have a place for newbies and potential sponsors, as well as serious news could go, and a place for the nonsensical verbal sparing that is smack talk to flourish, and never the twain shall meet.

Aug 26 2003, 04:14 PM
Nick, repeating the same thing over and over, in long, boring, verbose posts does not equate to quality.

Hey Statbot, care to do a count on words instead of posts?

Aug 26 2003, 05:06 PM
My gosh, AP, talk about padding word count stats! Whew, that was a good example. Calling Nick's posts long, boring and verbose is pretty darn redundant and a shameful overuse of verbiage on your own part.

Rodney,

This needs to be a weighted average, something like (Count)x (Average Quality of Posts).

I know that would move me way up on the ladder. :D

If I was truly concerned with count, I would post a lot more, since my posts seem to have a "lexiphobic" effect on threads... :D

How long has The Birthday Today thing been on the main index page? I can't believe no one has a birthday today. What are the odds of that with the amount of members in the PDGA?

Do they say how old you are?

cdamon
Jan 14 2004, 10:01 PM
Discette,

The birthday feature has only been with the board since the recent upgrade to UBB 6.4, as part of the Calendar feature. Clever me, I forgot to turn the display of birthdays on in the config (and UBB shows "No birthdays" if you have the feature turned off, which is kinda dumb). Anyway, I turned it on. But you probably won't see many if any, since it's not dependent on the info you have with the PDGA, but on your account here. You can enter your birthday via "My Home". It won't show your age (an option I'm keeping turned off).

This bulletin board is a separate application within the PDGA site, with its own database, so it has no clue about PDGA data. I might see if I can link it to birthdays from the PDGA database, but that's a rainy-day project.

Moderator005

The difference in other forums is that the post count is sometimes tied to ability, expertise, knowledge, etc. Around here that's not the case; a high post count does not necessarily a good disc golfer make. We have easily accessable ratings and tournament results to find that information out. Of those with the highest post counts, many have ratings in the recreational/novice level (<875)

You should see the fantasy football forums I visit on occasion. Unless your post count is several hundred or more, it's assumed you don't know jack schitt about football. Newbies with low post counts that suggest something risky or against conventional wisdom are often shot down harshly. Usually there's no access to individual's league pages where you could see someone's roster and W-L record to see for sure whether a person knows what he's talking about or not. So post counts rule the roost.
