hello all,
i am curious as to the length of the longest course (with baskets, no object courses please) EVER, permanent or temporary. i know the fly 18 in sarasota checks in over 13000 ft.
thanks,

joe...that is definately longer than 13000 feet /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I officially declare this to be a stupid, pointless topic:
Brooksville (Gran Canyon), Fla. is around 13,000
If you consider Hudson Mills to be one-48 hole course, it's 16,000'
jim- considering hudson mills one course would be stupid and pointless (like the letter holes on the monster). /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
i am considering temporarily installing the world's longest and need to know just how long that would need to be.
rock hill sc had the longest hole ever
at Ice bowl last year the second round was a one
mile long hole
I think 17 throws won it
I would love to hear from people playing
those 13000 ft courses about the experiance
do you throw your arm out
or is it exillerating
Why not just put together the World's Longest Gorilla Course? Tee off from, say, #1 at Morley Field (San Diego) and go for the pin at #1 at Borderlands (Mass)? That oughta keep everyone happy for about a month ...

Great idea bazillion!
Though I'd say you should shoot for #17's basket at Borderland, it's the easternmost on the course (it'll getcha a good 1500 feet more than #1).
Even better would be to tee off from Enman Riverside in Caribou, ME to an island green in Honolulu (U of Hawaii). Talk about Discs across America!

Sounds like one of those Par 2's to me.
Well what you guys don't realize is that NASA actually played a trick on everybody. You remember when we had that moon landing a while ago and the astronauts planted a flag up there and so forth?
Well what they didn't show in the photos was that they also set up a 9-hole DG course, right on the other side of the lander! I mean after all, up there there's absolutely NOTHING else to do!
So anyway, if you want to REALLY play the longest course, well hey - make #9 "up there" the finisher.

If you go to the highest mountain on the moon and throw a disc horizontally at 7,000 km per hour, it will go into orbit around the moon and never come down, and never lose spin because there is no atmosphere.
A 180g disc on the moon will weigh 30g. With no atmosphere what would be the disc of choice up there? I'm guessing most discs would turn hideously left for righties.
On Venus, I'm guessing the overstable stuff would work best. That's if my assumption that the gravity is the same and the atmosphere 2-3 times denser than ours. Although, I don't know the atomic weights of the gasses that make up Venus's atmosphere.
I don't know [*****] about what I'm talking about. Maybe someone educated in this area could help?

This thread leads right into our tourney, the Star City Shootout. Can't forget a shamless plug for IFO either.
A comet should be a good disc for a lunar shot.
and don't forget, on the moon there are no trees!
After the first moon toss in would be most fitting to say, "The Eagle has landed."
You couldn't throw any regular disc on Venus, the surface temperature is hot enough to melt lead. The pressure is so intense that standing on Venus would feel like the pressure felt 900 meters deep in Earth's oceans. Much greater than 2-3 times denser.
The moon does have an atmosphere - just very very thin. I would like to meet the person that is going to throw it at 7000 km/hr. : ) But you could chuck a disc very far there if you didn't have to deal with the hundreds of pounds of spacesuit.
But you probably could throw a disc all the way around Phobos ... a moon of Mars ... and catch it coming back to you after it went around the moon once.

Cong,
Do you think the Wildcat favors the CE Eagle, or more like the KC? The reason I ask is IMO, most of the KC Eagles I've run across are more overstable than the CE's... maybe I've just had bad luck finding the right CE Eagles, I dunno.
Anyway, I'd be interested in trying out a Wildcat if it flew like the CE's I've run across.
Hey Lowe - Paw Paw WV (The Woodshed and Whippin Post) Have a front 18 at just slightly under 8000 (seems longer) and back 9 at around 4,500 (Also seems much longer). This course has quite a few holes with long 500ft plus with ultra tight (10 foot) wooded fairways and quite a few 600 to 900 foot holes (also some elevation changes). This is definetly one of the long courses.
It similar to my CE Eagle, I havent thrown a KC, in quite some time, but my CE one, is far more overstable, than any KC one, I had ever thrown.
But they were all pre-blended KC's.

Cong,
Yeah, I still have one of those older KC Eagles... it's fairly beat-up and turns over nicely. But I also have 2 of the KC molds from early this summer, and they are wicked stable.
the CE one I use, was wicked overstable too, approaching a Firechicken when new, but since i use it as my thmber, repeatedslaws into the ground onlanding, and made it not as overstable as it was.

Fewell Park in RockHill, SC plays very long. Even though it is only 9 holes the course still plays 1097' I don't recomend the course since it is very likely to throw your arm out.
Nine holes at 1097? That's over 100 feet per hole!
I had 3 aces in one round at Fewell a few years back! Great approach course. It can fine tune those upshots!
chris

Ah, Yes Reese, You must be a GOD, spending all that money.........Stafford is county funded and golfer maintained.......But then again, who gives a crap about all of it anyway......you know you are really getting annoying with your FLY18 crap.
I bet youd [*****] your own **** if you could wouldnt you....../msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Find a PARK, build a course, then come out and talk. Yes you have a great thing, but it is NOT the future of our sport, just an alternative....
It must be nice to have a place where your maintanence is 0.......
Most people really dont care about how big your courses are......its just the nature of the beast.....when you have the space of a ball golf course you will have long holes....what a concept.
It doesnt mean that it is much of a challenge. Heck when an individual can shoot -3 in the first round ever played?(Tobish) Come on out and bring ANYONE!!! They will NOT shoot -3 @ Stafford the first time out......Most are humbled at an over par score time and time again.
In my own opinion.......this thread is about Big Courses with Long Holes.....NOT Ball Golf Courses with Baskets on it......
Dont get me wrong, I am all for what you are doing and will support your efforts as well as I can , BUT the more you try to ram it dowm peoples throats the more alienated you will become...../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I had not thought of the maintenance issue on a FLY-18, that alone would save us money as a club, maybe there is more to this than I thought.
It will not give you the sense of ownership that many of my club members feel. That will eliminate the satisfaction of Disc Golf for many.
We have a representative meeting with the Parks and Recreaction department tonight for our Blue Valley Course (We have an E/C meeting or I would be there). We will be proposing an object course at Blue Valley with discarded tires as the object. The park has a litter problem, and this is yet another way to show the P&R how disc golf is a solution to problems at the local level.
Once in the course will be over 10,000 feet long, with money budgeted for baskets in 2004. That money is in place, but we want people to see the layout. Manicured fairways, no, tough LONG elevation, tight turns, can you say Water Works on Steroids, YES!!
Fly-18 may be longer, and cleaner, but I will have fun on any course, especially one that is designed with disc golfers in mind.
I look forward to p[laying a fly-18, we actually were going to do an event at a local course, but we determined that our interests in promoting the game at parks that we want permanent course in at.
Jack
Jim, I believe it's just under 10,000.
Meanwhile, at CR2, The Strawbale Field course is currently at 7,032, while the Meandering Greenbelt is 8,899.
No carts, though.
Craig, is the 547' measured from tee to manhole, then manhole to basket? I have always wondered how the lengths are determined on doglegs. Yes, #11 at Seneca is one of the greatest holes you will ever find!
Thanks,
Danny

Houston's The Wilmont course in its orignal format has the 1083' dogleg wetlands hole, and in some configurations is about 8200 ft total overall. Worlds combinations played just under 8000 ft

Why no Mission Trails? It's on a ball golf course, but it is a disc golf course that is playable by the public year round.

Did anyone mention the Whatahole at OctoberFriz in Kansas? It is roughly 1200' with an elevation RISE of 100'. If played perfectly, after your 2nd 350' shot you must choose to either head up an old fire road, or stay down low. If you stay down low, you get one more really big drive then you must go UP a 100' cliff. If you choose to take the road, it's only 25' wide, and 600' long, slightly uphill the entire way. Easily one of the most difficult holes in the world. A 5 feels like a birdie. I've seen Open players take 10's and 12's. Hehe :)

At Highbridge Hills Sports Complex:
Highbridge Gold #5 Gold tee to A 740' / B 930'
Highbridge Gold #7 Gold tee to A 995' / B 1140'
Granite Ridge #3 Blue tee to A 400' / B 580' / C 805'
Granite Ridge #7 Blue tee to A 515' / B 605' / C 920'
I can't find the scorecard but #18 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN has a C pin at 1000+ feet downhill.

The new #21 at Circle C in Austin TX is 880 ft. Par 5 and difficult to get in 5. The hole has 2 doglegs and is surrounded by live oaks and cedars, once you get to where you can see the basket there is about a 325 uphill tunnel shot where water comes into play about 30 ft before the basket.
Here's something I compiled on the longest holes in the country. No temporary pin placements or temporary courses were included, nor disc golf courses on ball golf courses. Last time I was through there they all had permanent baskets and permanent concrete tees. AFAIK, the course is there all year round and is free. That meets your reqs no? :D
And there are these listed at centxdglove.com on official looking scorecards and I think they still exist.
Circle R2 Colorado River #9 = 825
Circle R2 Meandering Greenbelt #8 = 954
Circle R2 Meandering Greenbelt #14 = 909
Circle R2 Strawbale Field #9 = 834
I am EN FEUGO with this stuff. :D

Pickard Des Moines #10 = 825
Pickard Des Moines #18 = 958
Pleasant Run Virginia? #5 = 900
Pleasant Run Virginia? #10 = 825
By the way I don't know why you wouldn't include permanent holes on ball golf courses other than Reese being a jackass but he doesn't have a patent on disc golf on ball golf courses. Not really any diff than a pay to play private course like some you have listed. Just a thought. :p

Hey Biscoe...I read the first page of this, and this page, none of that pesky crap inbetween. That being said, here's what your course should look like..
Hole 1: Tee of i (maybe push it back up the hill, or right where you come in, it's flat enough and perfect for a right or lefty, gives a whole new look to the shot, and keeps 'i' open yet) to the basket of 3.
Hole 2: Tee of 4 to the basket of 7.
Hole 3: Tee of 12 to the basket of 13 (cut out a couple more trees)
Hole 4: Tee 14 to the pin of 'A' (cut out some sort of gap) or force the 'around' shot
Hole 5: Tee of 'B' to basket of 'C'
Hole 6: Tee of 'D' to basket of 'E' keeping all OB's in place
Hole 7: Tee of 'F'(if F is the little downhill putter shot...I might be a letter off) to the basket of 'B'
Hole 8: Keep G as it is, neat hole
Hole 9: Current hole 16
Hole 10: Tee of 17 (maybe moved up a bit) to the basket of 'i'
This gives you one helluva long and challenging and fun 10 holes, now you figure out where to put the other 8 :)
I figure this layout would be what...7,000 feet give or take?
Lemme know what you think, or anyone that was at the team challenge.

Hmmm
Hole 11: Current hole 10
Hole 12: Tee for 8, basket of 9 (somehow, grace of god maybe)
Hole 13: I think I've used up all/most of your land here...somewhere fit in the '15' as it is now, great hole.(i may be mixing up my holes, gotta keep the cowskulls hole). that gives you 14 total (once you squeeze that one back in) the other 4 are up to you. :) I think it could work! 3 rounds a day naturally...

John, consider my layout for your longest course...what do you think? Most of that legitimately works with hardly any crossing or interference one hole to the next. The walks wouldn't even be that bad. You'd just need to stick in 4 more holes (maybe just use some existing ones) to make 18. :-D If nothing else, i'd love to play this layout if all the extra baskets were in place to make it possible.
doesn't Jacksonville, NC's Northeast Creek Park have the longest permanent hole at 1001 feet?

MiTTenZZ
Mar 31 2005, 02:00 PM
1038 is what's on the teesign. In 2002 I landed my drive dead center at the very end of the short pad (about a 400 foot drive or so), so I had a perfect tee pad run up for my second shot (which i crushed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off to the right into the high crap)...then did a 350 standstill anhyzer with my CE-JLS (oh yeah baby) and got pin high 30 left...missed the putt. Oops. That's my little story and I'm stickin to it.
Hudson Mills Monster hole from the Black Tees is 1107 feet i believe. It has also been 3ed by a single person during a tournament round. He is on here as ParedTheMonster.
How far was his putt? Or was it a fairway ace? Cause to get in the "putting green" (30ft) you would have to have two drives that avg 540ft! Doing that once is a monster crush, doing it twice especially the second time on possibly uneven ground is unhuman.
I guarantee that it was a fairway ACE!!
The moons of mars are tiny and have very low escape velocities, maybe a throw of 80 MPH from a teepad on one of those moons would send it in orbit and escape the moons gravity, where the outermost traces of atmosphere of Mars will cause gas drag and and capture by the planet, which will bring it down to the surface of Mars, you can say it needs to land on the planet of Mars at a certain landing zone, and then up and in for par 3.
That would be around 20000 miles

Idlewild is the bomb. The rock divider on the putting area is a nice touch.
I heard Scott Stokely threw past The Monster Hole in two in the DGLO, but didn't make the putt. I also heard he hit the cage on a 50 footer on Monster A and then deuced B through F in Worlds 2000. Any confirmations out there?

also the disc golf course is named "Idlewild" rather than Idlewild Park (the park it is in is called: "England-Idlewild Park")

The 1140 hole at Highbridge is now the 1325' par 6 hole #8 on the Highbridge Gold course in Highbridge, WI.
That makes Highbridge Gold #8 the longest hole on the chart. And it's on a regular DG course, not a Fly 18 on a BG course. Is it the longest DG hole in the world?

I think it might be. And it's a legit Gold par 6 with challenges along its whole length including crossing an OB pond just in front of the pin.

...OB pond just in front of the pin.
I thought that in disc golf we have baskets not "pins". :D

Depends on the course

The pipe is alternately called a pin which fits into the anchor or pin placement. Sometimes our pipe even has a flag on top so it looks like a ball golf flag with "protective armor." :D

"Pin," like almost all our terminology, comes from ball golf. They call it the pin because you put a pin in the hole.
The only word we use that ball golfers don't is "sweet" which is getting old anyway

How about hyzer, as in "Hyzer Creek"? :D

"Hyzer Creek" and "sweet" have the same meaning.

that's a wet spit-out. cool course.
86 the Sarasota Golf Club. It's only a memory now. For the record 86 Titusville Spacecoast since the course moved to SGC.
The "silent" baskets now rest in Dunnedin on a nice Fly18. The egg-catchers from Dunnedin moved to Lutz on a hilly nine hole(18 basket) Fly18. Sarasota is ready for a new Fly18, maybe 8k to 9k ft. Golf courses are loosing in Florida. They need Disc Golf.
Tourney rounds on the longest course in the world, for it's short life.

Hole #8 at Redstone Arsenal has a long but rarely used placement. It is straight along the pine trees making the tail of the S an additional 250ft longer.
It gets really tight, down two a 20ft fairway before the green opens up.
So the actual real lenght of # 8 is 1050ft. We will play it in the upcoming Amateur Open this spring. 800ft is the short placement.
Hole 23, Milo McIver State Park, Estacada, OR. 1187'.
It is played as a par 5 in the Beaver State Fling. I think the 1187' is the shorter of two positions, but I can't find proof online. Here's a link to the scorecards: BSF Scorecards 2004 (http://www.beaverstatefling.orsdiscgolf.com/PDF/Milo27_ScoreCards.pdf)
A friend of ours three'd it with a 350+ skip in. It's a difficult hole to get a par 5 on. It takes a couple of well thrown rollers or huge air shots. River on the right, OB path to the left, scattered trees throughout. Fun, fun, fun!

That hole at the Octoberfriz used to be 1450' back in 2000 and before. You played across the Walnut River on your first shot. You had to throw it 300' and miss all the guarding trees on the other bank. Then you had to play a insanely narrow uphill path that went on just about forever before finally reaching the open green. I think I took a 9 on it. That was a good score. I heard that it was actually 4'd once. Certainly the longest and craziest hole I've ever seen.
The hole they use now is in a completely different part of the river. It's on the course (Daniel's course) that cuts designs through the grass and makes the tall grass OB. That hole is #18 and plays 900' in the open to a small gap in the trees where you want to be in order to throw over the river. Once you get to this critical landing area, you have to miss the trees on both banks and then after 340' or so, make a hard left hook around the trees to the pin. If it wasn't downhill across the river, it would be impossible. As it is, when there is a south wind, the hole sees a 4 occasionally.
What's crazy is that even though that hole is 1250', it doesn't play much tougher than the next hole (#1) that is only 400'. Hole #1 is a crazy tunnel shot with dense foilage to the left and a nasty gulley to the right and only about 15' of fairway. You have to throw through trees to get to the elevated green. A hanging basket awaits you with a cliff drop off just behind it.
