What can anyone tell me about Hidden Lake DGC? How far is it from Lemon Lake?

cgkdisc
May 16 2013, 04:16 PM
Hidden Lake is about a mile from the host hotel in Merrillville. It will be a more open layout than the Red course at Lemon with 5-6 holes where the lake comes into play. Par 59 or 60 depending on the layout decision being made by Brian and Shawn over the next few days.

Thanks, Chuckster. Glad it's not an hour drive or something like that. KL

It will be nice having some water come into play - that's about the only thing missing from the Lemon Lake courses.

I don't see numbers anywhere. Like what is the cap on number of players? Are there separate caps per division or just a total number? What I'm essentially getting at are what are the chances that this currently 954 rated Am can get into the MPM division once reg. opens to me on July 12? If I somehow find somewhere to cash between now and then am I then able to jump the "Am wait date"?
Thanks.

The current caps are on the schedule: Pro Worlds 2013 Schedule (http://www.pdga.com/2013-pdga-worlds-documents/2013-pdga-professional-world-championships/invitation-package/2013-pdga--2)

OK. So, if I cash between now and then, will I be considered Pro and be able to register before the Am wait date?

cgkdisc
May 28 2013, 03:24 PM
Perhaps you could stretch the rule by cashing. But I think you would need to update your member status to pro at PDGA HQ so the automated registration process had you listed as a pro in the PDGA database when you registered. You might need to pay the $25 additional to officially establish your pro status. The PDGA doesn't go out and ask for the extra $25 if you cash this year. It doesn't happen until you must renew next year at the $75 rate.

do all AMs that want to compete at Pro worlds have to change their PDGA status to Pro?

Apparently only if their rating is under the limit specified for Ams depending on division.

I heard you had something to do with the design and if so, my hat is off to you Mr. Kennedy!
Super White is AWESOME!!! One of the best courses I've played in quite a while. A true risk/reward design. Easy-to-get 5 or worse, a good 4, a great 3, and a stoopid insane 2 chance all on the same hole! A truly fair design to all routes, really balancing the reward and danger to the risk. They should put White back after World's for rec/family play and make Super White a permanent Black! Not neceassarily the best course I've played, but probably the best design. Just fabulous.

Thanks, but most of the credit goes to Brian and a few of his volunteer team on the Super White layout. I saw what they were up to with a couple of the new white temp holes on a few visits. But I'll be as surprised and interested to see how it came out and play it as much as others. Brian and his team have done a great job tweaking the Worlds Red, Blue and Hidden Lake layouts with a bit of advice on visits from Shawn Sinclair and myself including testing and tweaking the Red twice to get a good balance and routing. I think players will enjoy the combination of courses they'll play on their Worlds schedule especially those who will see the improvements since 2010 Worlds.

It's my understanding that the Super White, Red and Blue will revert to their original versions sometime after Worlds especially since Super White goes through some areas with sensitive foliage. But these temp configurations could be available for special events in the future. The few Hidden Lake Worlds hole tweaks might be used on a more regular basis.

Note Schedule Draft 2.2 (http://www.pdga.com/2013-pdga-worlds-documents/2013-pdga-professional-world-championships/invitation-package/schedule) available with a some schedule adjustments to include more FPO players.

I know Disc Golf Planet will be there to prepare another half hour show for Beach Sports Network. Not sure if there's any live coverage planned.

I don't think we have sites for Pro Worlds after 2015 set yet. Here's the page where you can check for future sites and when bidding opens up for future events: http://www.pdga.com/pdga-major-events

Jason, the "souped up" courses should change my original views from 2010 which pegged White as a fun pitch-n-putt, Blue as very meh, Red as well above average, and Gold the shining gem of the facility and one of my top 25 courses played ever. Blue course has new holes 4-10 which I'll be interested in seeing. Red course added holes#8-10 from the White course which are actually three of my favorites on the property and make Red even better. I am REALLY looking forward though to the new Super White course; at over 8000' in length and with a whopping seven of the 18 holes over 500 feet in length, this is hardly the rec player course it previously was. I leave one week from today, can't wait!!!

DGP has been selling "early bird" subscriptions for their Worlds broadcasts, so it certainly appears that they will be doing live coverage. Same deal as last year's Worlds, PPV with a daily and an unlimited option. I've already bought my unlimited subscription and am looking forward to watching.

Watching an MPO group playing the 687' pro par five 12th hole, Paul Ulibarri's approach shot from several hundred feet out crashes the chains, drops onto the fast green, and rolls down OB. He misses the severely uphill comebacker, and goes from what would have been a miraculous 2 to a 5. :(
