I was hoping to be able to announce the location of the 35th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic this afternoon, but we just havent been able to get it finalized. Hopefully soon. No matter where we hold the tournament, it will be fun, it will be family, and it will be a great waterloo time!

In the meantime, the tournament WILL happen: October 13-14, 2012; with doubles on Friday Oct 12th.

Yes, this is ACL weekend, ****! But we were pushed off our usual 3rd weekend in October, back to the 2nd weekend, so we just have to make the best of it.

It is also UT/OU football weekend, so who can bring out the big screen TV and the satellite dish? :D

Registration is not yet open, but you can still reserve your spot in this fun and historic tournament by taking the Father Dave McC-Note Challenge. Full details are below. 4 people are already in, and around now is when a bunch more start sending in their McC-Notes to reserve their spots.

Our 2012 Father Dave McC-Noters so far are:

Larry Kruse, Stevo Barnes, Jan Baumgardner, and Jeff Moore

See you at Waterloooooooooooo

Gordon Maxim-Kelley
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its Father Dave McC-Note Time

The way it works is this: send the Waterloo Club a check or money order for $100 now. Your spot in the tournament is guaranteed. When fees for the different divisions are set, we will deduct from your $100:

your entry fee
ace pot
ring-of-fire
non-active pdga fee (if applicable)

All the money left goes directly to the charity. In 2011, there were 44 McC-Note Challengers, nearly half of the field. This added over $1800 to the total charitable donation!

To clarify something that has come up occasionally: this money saves your spot, not a spot. Once the tournament fills up and there is a waitlist, if you have to cancel you cant just give your spot to someone else. As with any cancellation, the spot goes to the next person on the waitlist. If you do have to cancel, you will receive a refund of everything except what would have gone to the charity (and that money will still be added to the donation).

Dont wait too long and end up missing out on this wonderful event. Send in your money now and you wont have to worry about it filling up without you.

Send your check or money order, payable to WDGC, to:
WDGC
PO Box 33531
Austin, TX 78764
Please include your full name, division, and pdga number (if you have one).

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

Dear Sponsor,

The Waterloo Disc Golf Club is proud to announce that it is hosting the 35th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic in Austin, Texas. This historic disc golf tournament is the longest running tournament in the Southwestern U.S. and one of the oldest in the country. This year the dates are set for October 12-14, 2012. The 35th Waterloo Classic will again benefit the Austin Ronald McDonald House (RMH).

The RMH is a wonderful non-profit, charitable organization that provides a home away from home for families with critically ill children undergoing treatment at area hospitals. This allows parents the chance to be close to their children when they are needed most.

Thanks to the support of our great sponsors, we have donated more than $76,000 in cash and supplies to RMH over the last fourteen years. The goal for 2012 is to raise $8,000. Won’t you please help by being a sponsor of this wonderful tournament? Sponsorship can be in the form of cash, merchandise, or a combination of the two.

• For a sponsorship of $200 or more: your logo or name on the back of the official tournament shirt, plus on a tee-box sign. This sign will be seen by all of the competitors each time that they play the course. Your logo/name will also be added to the Sponsor List that will be displayed at the course and included in the program distributed to all the players and spectators.

• For $100 - $199: your name on a tee-box sign and on the Sponsor List.

• For up to $99: your name on the Sponsor List.

Please mail all sponsorship to Waterloo Disc Golf Club, PO Box 33531 Austin, TX, 78764 (checks payable to WDGC). If you wish, you may make your check payable directly to Austin Ronald McDonald House in order to get the tax benefits of a charitable donation. For more information, please contact Stevo Barnes at 512-451-2064, or Gordon Maxim-Kelley at [email protected] or the Waterloo Club cell phone 512-994-9508.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Gordon Maxim-Kelley

We have the location of the 35th Waterloo DG Classic, Oct 13-14, now confirmed. It will be on this cool little property just a bit southeast of where the F1 track is being built (and the F1 track is southeast of Bergstrom airport).

Well design a Waterloo-type course (no Roy G. distances here :D ), well have doubles on Friday, well be able to have the baskets up all weekend so that means night golf!!! And youll be able to camp out there if you wish. We may not have Waterloo Park, but we will have a GREAT time!

More details soon, including fees, when registration opens up probably sometime late next week.

The Father Dave McC-Note info is above in the first post. The one thing that will change is that in addition to covering your entry fee, ace pot, ring-of-fire, and non-active pdga fee (if applicable), your McC-Note will also cover your camping fee.

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

We were hoping to be able to send out the flyer today for the 35th Waterloo tournament (Oct 13-14) and open up registration, but unfortunately that will have to wait until Monday.

In the meantime, here is where the tournament will be:

A cool little place called The Ball Farm (yeah, yeah you can all start your snickering now. You know that Dave Tayloe would, for sure!)

It is in-between where the F-1 track is going in and Moodys ranch. The link below to Google Maps will give you good picture of the area. And if you use the "search nearby" option and zoom out far enough, it will give you some hotel options in the area of Bergstrom Airport and around Buda/Kyle/Bastrop.

If you want to, you will be able to camp out there on Friday and Saturday night for just $10 per person (that is $10 for the weekend, not $10 per night; this fee is for players and non-players alike). And I think it is pretty much guaranteed that we will put glowsticks on the baskets so campers can play some night golf :)

The Ball Farm

Lots of ways to get there but one set of directions (from I-35 & Ben White): Head East to 183 South - Take 183 South 4.1 miles to FM 812 -Turn Left on FM 812 -Continue east on FM 812 for 12.4 Miles to Old San Antonio Road (look for water tower with smiley face on it) -Turn Right on Old San Antonio Road and continue 2.7 miles to Red Bird Lane -Turn Left onto Red Bird Lane, entrance will be on your right.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We will be having a couple of workdays out at the farm before the tournament to get it ready. The first one will be next Sunday, Sep 16th. More details to follow next week like what time, what well be working on, what to bring, etc. The next one isnt set yet but will likely be sometime during the weekend before the tournament

----------------------------------------------------------------------

One more afternoon of miserable sweating and then we finally get some cooler weather this weekend, HOORAY!!! And just in time for the two 1-day HOTT tournaments in Waco (saturday) and Temple (sunday); or the clubs Bart mini on Saturday morning at 10 am if youve got a bit less time. So we hope everyone has a great disc golf weekend. If interested in one or both of the HOTT events, just get in touch with Team Justice at 830-392-6060.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally, THANK YOU to Disc Nation for the constant, strong support they give the Waterloo Club, in everything we do!

Thanks,

The work day out at The Ball Farm, the venue for the Waterloo tournament this year, is changing days.

The work day will now be on this Saturday, Sep. 15th! (not Sunday the 16th as originally announced)

If you can, please bring:
rock rakes (heavy duty rakes, not light grass/leaf rakes)
work gloves
water
(plus bugspray and sunscreen)

Well probably finish up around 1 pm. Directions to the farm are below.

If you want, you could then head straight on over to Moodys ranch, it isnt too far away. Team Justice said you can show up that Saturday, camp, play a glow round, and then take part in the big farewell to the course on Sunday.

We hope you will come out and help us get the course ready for Waterloo, and then go play the Moooooove Over Moodys event!

Thanks!

Okay, we know this is really short notice, and we also know it is not the greatest of times for a workday, BUT

This Sunday, October 7th, 2:30 pm

Workday
The Ball Farm
119 Redbird Lane, 78616

We will have a workday out at The Ball Farm to help get the course ready for Waterloo next weekend. We will be marking the course, measuring the distances, doing some clearing and tee box leveling, that kind of stuff.

If you arent going to be out at Moodys that day and can come by and help we would really appreciate it. If you have a weedeater you can bring, great. Other implements needed will be rock rakes and shovels (for the tee boxes), and maybe some loppers. Dont forget work gloves.

Should be a nice day for it at least, cool and breezy.

Here is a link to a map that should work: https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=the+ball+farm&aq=&sll=30.307761,-97.753401&sspn=0.684085,1.352692&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&hq=the+ball+farm&hnear=&t=m&z=10&cid=16324385553371558487&iwloc=A

and here is the address for The Ball Farm that can be put into mapquest or google or something: 119 Redbird Lane, 78616
Thanks!

This is long but has a lot of Info about the 35th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic this weekend, whether you are just thinking about playing doubles, thinking about playing singles, thinking about coming out to check out the course and hang out, or already registered. It includes info about:

Friday doubles
More Women Players wanted
Available spots for singles
Check-in and Registration times
Directions to the course
Parking
Camping
Meals available for purchase during the weekend
When you can play the course if you are not in the tournament
Night Golf
Fundraising

Oh and FREE BEER 
We will have a couple of kegs Saturday night (thank you Tramps and the Stair Family), plus we have a bunch of delicious beer from Austin Beerworks which will be enjoyed Friday night (but we will save some for Saturday as well).

Friday Doubles:

Friday October 12th, flex start 1 pm 5:30-ish. However, those starting after 5:00 or so are likely to finish in the dark. We will have glowsticks on the baskets, and red LED lights available for purchase, so be prepared.

Open to everyone, $13 per person (includes $5 greens fee for the day), bring your own partner. There will be an optional ace pot, $2 per person. If no aces are hit on Friday then the money will go towards the fundraising.

More Women Players wanted: We have 9 women players already, but we would really like some more. All women receive extra stuff in their players pack, we have a CTP each round for women only, we pay out 100% of the women who play (sure, last place in a division may not get much, but she will get something).

Available spots for singles & Check-in and Registration times:

Friday afternoon late registration and check-in time: 3 pm till dark. Tournament HQ is just a little ways inside the gate (cant miss it).

Saturday morning late registration and check-in time: between 7:30 8:30 am at HQ.

There are still spots available for the tournament, about 25 or so, just call the club cell phone to reserve your spot, 512-994-9508, or email me at [email protected] (but if you going to email, you must do it by 5:30 pm tomorrow - Thursday, Oct 11th - after that I wont have email access).

Normally for Waterloo we do not hold spots. However, with this being ACL and UT/OU weekend and all, we have enough available that we will do it. If you call or email for a spot, we do expect you to show up for it. You MUST be there either Friday afternoon between 3 pm and dark or Saturday morning between 7:30 8:30 am (the earlier the better, please).

If you are already registered and fully paid, you must also be there either Friday afternoon between 3 pm and dark or Saturday morning between 7:30 8:30 am to check in. At 8:30 am Saturday, we drop anyone who hasnt showed up, fill the spots from the waitlist (if we have one by then), finalize the cards, and get going.

Juniors who want to play Waterloo: We will register Juniors on Friday during check-in or on Saturday morning during the first round. Juniors will play one round per day in-between the main rounds. The cost is $20 and theyll receive some stuff for signing up plus well make sure that every kid who plays wins at least something. The number of kids and their ages will determine whether we have different divisions or not.

Parking:

Parking should not be difficult this weekend (unless there is a lot of rain). We will have a parking area set up. If you are camping, your car goes in the parking area. You can pull up at least close to your spot to unload your stuff (and well have some wheelbarrows that can be used), but then you need to move your car to the parking area. At the end of the weekend you can do the same to load up. If you want to camp by your car, you will need to camp up by the parking area (but it is fairly open up there, not as many trees). If there is a lot of rain and the farm is too muddy for cars, then parking will be along the road (Redbird Lane), but we will have carts and/or wheelbarrows available to help you bring in your camping stuff (same as camping at Circle R in Wimberley).

If you are driving out to the Farm each day you can park on Redbird Lane and walk in. If you prefer, you can use the parking area for campers. Either way, you can drive in to HQ, drop your stuff off, and then move your car.

Directions to the Ball Farm: 119 Redbird Lane, 78616
From IH-35 and Ben White: Head East to 183 South - Take 183 South 4.1 miles to FM 812 - Turn Left on FM 812 - Continue east on FM 812 for 12.4 Miles to Old San Antonio Road (look for water tower with smiley face on it) - Turn Right on Old San Antonio Road and continue 2.7 miles to Redbird Lane - Turn Left onto Redbird Lane, entrance will be the first one on your right.

Link to Google Maps: https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...558487&iwloc=A

Camping: Camping is $10 for the weekend (whether both Friday and Saturday night or just Saturday night)

Food for Sale: Martin Rendon and his cousin will be there selling breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, and lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. The menu will be:
breakfast Saturday: brisket, egg and cheese tacos
lunch Saturday: hamburgers with pasta salad and all the fixins
breakfast Sunday: ham, egg and cheese sandwich and fruit
lunch Sunday: smoked chicken, potato salad and baked beans and bread.

When can you play the course if you arent in the tournament?
For those folks that aren't playing doubles or singles, and want a chance to play the course, there are the usual lunch breaks on Saturday & Sunday when the players will be off the course. The Juniors will be playing the course then, but that is usually only a card or two or three. Youll need to stop playing when you hear the two minute warning for the afternoon round. You can also play in the late afternoon / early evening on Saturday once the 2nd round is done. The cost will just be $5 per person for greens fees.

You can also play on Friday during the doubles. We expect a good number of doubles teams, but not so many that we cant also accommodate some casual players too (though in groups no larger than 4). The cost will just be $5 per person for greens fees.

The times of the lunch breaks are hard to guess, but we hope that the course will be available around 12:30 2:30 on Saturday and noon 2:00 on Sunday.

We dont know if well be back here again next year, so this could be the one and only time to play this course.

Night Golf:

SADA (South Austin Disc Association) will be bringing out glowsticks for the baskets so you can play night golf both Friday and Saturday night! We will have some of those great red LED lights available for purchase, and Mike Schulgen will have some for sale too, or bring your own. Not much moon expected this weekend so lights on your discs will be important. Should be a TON O FUN! Due to 4 of the baskets being near the home of the owners (inside their yard), we will not play those at night (except for those players who are finishing up Friday doubles).

Fundraising:

Two Silent Auctions: We will have one auction on Saturday and second, completely separate, auction on Sunday. On Saturday morning, well put out a bunch of items on display on the deck, and there will be a bid sheet by each item. Bidding will close at the end of the day on Saturday so when your second round is over, be sure to hang around, make some final bids, and collect your winnings. Well do the same thing on Sunday with a whole new set of items, and well close Sundays auction at the beginning of the awards ceremony. The silent auctions will have all sorts of great things from the small, to the large, to the really cool collectible.

Giant Raffle: Typically our raffle has over $1,000 worth of prizes. The Grand Prize is a BASKET! Single tickets are only $2 but buy more and get a better deal: 6 tkts for $10, or 15 tkts for $20. Tickets may be purchased until the start of Round 4 on Sunday afternoon. The drawing will be held shortly after, and the winning numbers posted immediately. You can pick up your prizes any time after that. You do not need to be present to win a raffle prize. If you arent going to be there Sunday afternoon, just put your name and phone number on the back of the ticket and we will contact you after the tournament.

Ring-of-Fire: will be held Saturday afternoon, immediately before the 2nd round (hopefully about 1:30 - 2:00 pm). It is $2 to play, and all proceeds go to the fundraising. You can sign up at check-in, or all the way up to the time we start it. Ring-of-Fire is a series of putting games, and it is really fun to play. It is also fun to watch, so even if you arent playing, stick around to see it.

Everyone (staff, spectators, and players) is eligible to take part in all of these events: Proceeds from these go to the fundraising, so bring lots of extra cash and your check book.

We also will have a box at Tournament HQ all weekend to collect canned, boxed, or packaged foods, household items and every-day necessities such as toiletries, etc. These items will be used by the families that stay at the house. We will have a big box for collection, so please go through your pantry and bring out some stuff. Toys and games for the kids are also welcome.

The tournament is taking part in the PDGAs Competition Endowment Program. This means that the $2 per-player PDGA fee, plus the $10 non-active member fee, is being donated to the charity instead of going to the PDGA. Thanks PDGA!!!

McHouse Concrete Challenge: WTF (Women Throwing Frisbees) is our host this year for this fun and challenging event. It is held on one of the holes during the 4th round only (Sundays 2nd round). WTF will pay out 5-1 if you can make your disc come to rest on the picnic table or in the designated area just below it. The basket will be on top of the table, but anywhere on the table or in the ring under it will win you 5 times what you bet. Give them $1 and win $5. Give them $20 and win $100. Good Luck!

Miscellaneous:

The Tayloe Toe Throw contest will be on Sunday afternoon, right before the 4th round (hopefully about 1:00 - 1:30 pm). It is free to everyone who wants to play, and well have some prizes for the longest throws. Great to watch as well; very silly, very fun!

If you read all the way through, PHEW!!!

Cant wait to see all of you out at The Ball Farm for another wonderful Waterloooooooooooooooooooo

Doubles Results for Waterloo have been posted on the clubs Facebook page and website (www.austindiscgolf.org). The files there look a LOT better than what is in the post above.

There are also links in both places to the singles results on the pdga site; and the Raffle Prize list is in both spots too (weve had a good number of them claimed since the email and posts that went out on Tuesday).

Troy Herman has posted a BUNCH of great photos on the Facebook page. For those who are not on Facebook, he also posted them on Flickr (the link is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/troyherman/collections/72157631776665544/ )

If you won something in singles or doubles but havent picked up your prizes yet (or your cash). The best opportunity to pick out what you want will be in a couple of weeks. On Thursday, November 1st, the club will have our Fall WaterLeague payout at Zilker. We will have a lot of our merchandise out there so come on down and claim your Waterloo winnings; we should be ready any time after about 6:30 6:45 pm, and well be set up near hole #1 on the South Side.

Aces for the weekend were:

Doubles
Mike Schulgen, Hole #17, $196

Singles
James McNair, Hole #5, $56
Andrew "Blu" Romero, Hole #17, $56
Sol Mercodo, Hole #2, $56
Joel Kelly, Hole #10, $56
Jerry "El Chile" Perez, Sr., Hole #18, $56

Thanks!

Thanks for another great Waterloo event Gordon!

Congratulations on your Waterloo Spirit Award - I cannot think of anyone more deserving! You rock my friend!

I want to offer another big congratulations to Jodi Nintzel whom I had the honor of playing with during her very first round in her very first disc golf tournament. Way to go Jodi !!!

I kept an eye on your scores during the weeked and I've got to say that you did a marvelous job this weekend. Your scores improved with every single round you played. Wow!!! You have a very bright and promising disc golf career ahead of you and the way you are progressing, you'll be whippin' up on me at next year's Waterloo! (I hope we get to play our first round together again!)

Waterlooooooooooo!

LOST DISCS:
I heard about a lot of lost discs last weekend at Waterloo, and while some were turned in, it seems like not nearly enough. If you found a disc but didnt turn it in even if it doesnt have a name or number on it please bring it to Zilker during league this Thursday night (Oct 25th) or next Thursday night (Nov 1st) so we can try to reunited it with its proper owner (no questions asked, we just want the discs back). Cmon people, spirit of Waterlooooo

Some discs were turned in and made their way back home, and the players who got them back were VERY happy!

We still have a few though. If we have one of yours, come down to league this week or next and pick them up from me. If all we have is a description but no definitive name, just describe it (usually color and stamp).

Mark Wilson not sure what kind
Charlie Lockwood star vulcan
Bean champion leopard
LC QMS
? champion ? (yellow)
? - gateway putter

Thanks again to everyone, and the players too, for such a fun, happy, 35th Waterloo Disc Golf Classic!

This is the final post about the 35th Waterloo Classic (I promise :D ).

The total donation from this year’s tournament to Austin Ronald McDonald House (RMH) came to $4,500 in cash, $200 worth of food and household goods, and 15 ‘gallon jugs’ full of can tabs. We haven’t gotten an updated figure lately, but a few years ago RMH said that each jug of can tabs equated to a family’s 1-night stay at the House. Many of the jugs came from SADA, way to go South Side!

Thank you very much to all the sponsors, players, and staff who made this great tournament and this wonderful donation possible!

Our fundraising grand totals now from all the Waterloo Disc Golf Classic Tournaments since 1999 are:

Donated to Austin Ronald McDonald House
$80,000 in cash
$1,000 worth of food, household goods, and toys
102 ‘gallon jugs’ full of can tabs

Donated to Austin Parks Foundation
$1,500 in cash

Raised and Spent on Disc Golf Projects here in the Austin Area
$12,500 in cash

Also, a quick thanks to a few volunteers I managed to leave off the other posts: Wade Kolb, Jeff Martin, and ‘Marky’ Mark Dwyer.

Waterloooooooooooooooooooooooo!
