Looking for a little help to improve my game and expand my disc selection.

I'm upper GM age been playing about 4 years, driving I have a pretty consistent forehand, a Nuke or a Groove are my favorites (~100yards) for open fairway driving. Since I started playing, I've only been able to use a Avenger SS for backhand driving, everything else I've tried and I've tried alot of discs, never turns stable (flat) unless i let it go anhy and then it looses speed and distance ending up looking like a hyzar midrange.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If your avenger is working then you don't have a problem. You say that you've tried a lot of discs like (I'm guessing: sidewinders, monarchs, and roadrunners). Even those understable types stay overstable until they get beat up a little, so don't give up on them. Break them in with repeated throws. You may want to try the blizzard katana at 150g or so. I have had much success throwing the blizzard stuff and it's really easy to throw for old guys like us.

If you are coming into disc golf from a frisbee or old school background, here are some things that I found helped me:

1. keep your trailing shoulder high as you release
2. get out over your front foot as you release and also follow through
3. throw line-drives and keep the nose down
4. to help get a nose down release extend your hand with disc as if you were going to shake someone's hand then tilt your hand down. that is the nose-angle to have when you release your backhand (driving).

If you do not use a power grip you will have to work harder to keep the nose down (at least that is true for me). Getting the nose up on modern drivers tends to cause a stall and fall syndrome. I think they actually have lift that compensates for the nose being down (as long as you they have not ran out of gas).

Thanks guys for the help and ideas.

I did get a blizzard katana this winter and will throw it when the snow goes.

And I'm going to video my throw to see where I can improve my techique because i can't think about throwing and throw at the same time with my feeble mind I get distracted easily.
