Please visit www.kcfdc.org for more information to follow, but we are excited as a community to be hosting the 30th version of the Kansas City Wide Open.

June 1, 2, and 3 are the events, Camping opens May 25th.

This will play as an NT for Pro Men and Women

An A-Tier for all other Pro divisions, and Advanced Divisions

A B-Tier (2-day 3 round) for Int., Rec., and older Jr. Divisions

We will be using the same 5 courses for the NT/A Tier groups consisting of:

KCMO Parks:
Swope Gold 2012-Swope on an extended layout with difficulties added to combine the classic nature of the historic course to meet the demands of today's players and technology.

Water Works-With all of the elevation and challenges that this course brings, as well as the determination to play on what many consider one of the best courses that they have played, this will be yet again a challenging and demanding course for all to play.

Blue Valley-This year the course will play significantly shorter as the "new" course within a course will be utilized, shortening the course and removal of holes #17 & #18 with additional holes and new teeing areas, this course will create new challenges for all players. All the while there will be no denying you are still at Blue Valley.

Kansas City Kansas Park:
Rosedale-The history of Rosedale and the tales that come of it make this course a true test of time as its well known trouble spots will make even the most prolific player cautious of its impeding drops.

Blue Springs Park:
Wilbur Young-This technical layout will enrage some, and find fits for a few but the challenges of playing a long open course and complimented by the technical carvings of this course will show that Kansas City truly does find a home for disc golf in most any park. This recent addition to the disc golf scene in Kansas City will challenge every player accordingly, and be a shiny spot on the map of places to play whilst in KC for this event, and as you return to visit!

The B-Tier players will play a combination of 3 courses over the 2 days on the same layout that the other divisions play.

Camping will be available at Swope in a special part of the park that is only 3 minutes from the course. Camping will be available only by registering with Dan Cashen, but it is available the weekend before (Memorial Day) if you want to get to town early. The site is along mountain bike trails as well if you are so inclined.

We have a couple of host hotels available ranging in price from $69-$119/night depending on your demands.

We have a wide array of activities planned for the ceremonial events that only 30 years can bring. In fact we encourage you to help with the event by contributing photos from your years of playing disc, or related KC photo's. Get them together more information to follow soon!

Hope some of you saw the Video Promo that ran during the Memorial on www.Discgolfplanet.tv

We are really wanting your help in discovering old Kansas City Wide Open (For that matter even old World's photo's and stories) material for the program, a trip down nostalgia lane if you will. Many people have played over the course of the event, and many have played over the course of the last 13 years and the World's that have been in KC, so express those for all to enjoy!

Getting closer and closer each day folks, we are excited to have you come play in our yard again!

Thanks,

Jack

Swope set up sneak peek....

Yep....It is going to be a fun set up. Hopefully it will be set for league next week in the Wide Open configuration.
A little sneak peak.....
1--play 1 long, surrounded by OB, double Mando off Pad
2--play 2 long, with OB both sides of fairway, and ob behind pin
3--play to #3 middle (just before Road) OB right/left, all the way up to road
4--play from #4 pad to #5 left long pin position. OB all the way up the fairway right, and Road, tappering towards pin and behind pin

****walk past house North to road tee****
5--Following Gregory, on west side of fairway, all the way, pin on an island, OB Right all the way up, 3 roads OB on the way
6--throw across "lake" shortest from pad, easier area ~210', farther down, skinnier fairway, close to 400' to clear must clear the little "bushes" from the pad or re-tee
7--short little Island shot, drop zone if you miss, by Parks Building
8--Plays #6 long with OB all over it
9--plays to #7 which is an island green, either on the green or drop zone, drop zone right by double mando :-)
10--plays to #8 (OB is around shack only)
11--plays #9 short--then go to #11 Short pad, skip hole #10
12--plays to #11 long (the come backer' pin for those in the know! ps, you're old if you get it) OB right all the way up the fairway
13--plays to #12 right, standard OB rules, road and across
14--plays #13 long, you are on the only "inbounds" location on that side of the road, OB will be the road on the other side, or the OB line all the way up the fairway in the woods. If your tee shot goes OB, you go to Drop (short pad)
15--plays from #14 long, to #15 pin across the road. Past the rocks is OB, and there is a drop zone for your second shot, regular OB rules on your drive. You must be on the Island after second shot, unless you are still inbounds. When you go to throw on the island, if you don't make it, go to drop zone. If you hit the basket and roll off the island, you go to drop if you are throwing across the road....get it? :-)
16--Will be the corner from Gregory like last year, to long #16 with OB all the way up on the right, and OB road on the left.
17--Left placement, OB behind it all around.
18--Middle placement with OB on both sides of Fairways.

All Rocks will be OB, from the outer edge essentially, it will be lined up OB.

......Now for a little Blue Valley Information.........
For the Wide Open, Par (x) is next to the hole distance for the Wide Open

This version of Blue Valley doesn't have you playing Hole #17 or #18 across the street, and makes the course over 3000' feet shorter than last year's version.

On top of the great article that Crazy penned about the event coming up, there is quite a bit of local chatter going on in our forums at www.KCFDC.org here is one of the better posts by Rick about the Three-Tier options for those of you that can only make it a couple of days....... We look forward to having you here in town.

Jack

Forwarded start------------------------

Let me add another reason to join the KC Wide Open...come several days earlier and play some of the many excellent courses that are NOT going to be used in the Wide Open.

Scheduling information will be posted online as well as emailed directly to all pre-registrants quite soon, but first wanted to address the less than robust B-Tier registration.

So yes, I'm kind of surprised that the B-Tier Wide Open for intermediate, recreational, and novice players has not, so far, drawn more players. We hope this will change in the next 48 hours. The shirt order has to be placed by noon on Friday, which means if you think you want to play, let me know your division and shirt size BEFORE NOON ON FRIDAY!

Here are some reasons why lesser-rated players should be part of this historical event:
The cost is only $55 (add $10 more if not PDGA) and here's what you get:

1. Play three of the courses that the pros will be playing: Swope Gold, Water Works, and Blue Valley.
2. A very cool SuperColor ESP Buzzz
3. Pigment Dyed Performance Shirt
4. Dynamic Disc Dirt Bag
5. Saturday Night Soiree featuring a full Italian dinner. Check out frankiejscatering.com. Also a DJ, Triple X competition, and more will be happening
6. 30th Annual KCWO Commemorative Program - 32 page magazine tracks each of the previous 29 Wide Open
7. Vintage issue of Disc Golf World News--a large glossy, well-written magazine from years gone by.
8. Prizes based on finished, and some CTPS too.(but you’ll have to earn these!)

Besides what a player gets, there are even more opportunities.
1. Meet and greet Ken Climo at Disc Golf World on Friday night
2. Dynamic Disc Team Clinic on the DD KC Store on Friday night
3. That's right: TWO disc golf stores in one town to check out!
4. Triple X games - $20 includes your Passport Disc. Field is limited to participate in some wild and wacky Frisbee games. Fun and prizes.
5. Low cost camping at Swope Park - $10 a night
6. Final 9 at Swope featuring top 4 men and top 3 women
7. Sunday's free Concert in the Park after the Final 9
8. DD Doubles on Friday at Rosedale
9. Watching the top pros at Blue Valley and/or Wilbur Young on Friday
10. Becoming part of a 30-year tradition.

WOW!

That was a long tiresome weekend! Thanks to all of you that came out to play this EPIC event. With all the golf this weekend, I was wondering what we played in the 2009 worlds, and in most cases you had to play 5 courses, or 3, so everyone got a big taste of golf here. We played a total of 34,863 in distances, (I probably had to be closer to 50,000 based on my errant shots!) in worlds here was the breakdown:
MPO=5 courses=46,186'
FPO=5 courses=45,082'
MPM=5 courses=47,059' (yep that shocked me too....)
MPG=5 courses=46,228' (WOW again....)
FPM=4 courses=41,092'
MA1=5 courses=42,554'
MM1=5 courses=38,266'
MG1=4 courses=34,201'
Everyone played the following with the exception of the "B" Tier-
Course (If used in 2009 World's Distance)
Water Works-6049--(6164)
Rosedale-6907--(7287)
Blue Springs-5999--(n/a)
Swope Gold 2012-8544--(6922 Non Gold format....)
Blue Valley-7364 (10839)
Total-34863

So it wasn't as bad as I thought it was, but it was a lot of golf. I appreciate all the compliments that many shared during the event with us. We worked hard as a disc golf community to put on a big event for you to enjoy, and hopefully it was one that you will cherish for years to come, and hopefully look forward to having you back again in the future.

We have many good disc golf courses that you may not have seen so plan a trip and hit up KC on your next disc golf destination.

Thanks for everyone that helped to make this event a big success to all of us here locally!!

Thanks,

Jack

so is the local club keeping the ace pot $$$ just curious heard there was an ace and the player still has not gotten any $$ something about the TD will need to look how many paid in.. What the TD should know that information aftre players are registered.. something smells fishy in KC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jackinkc
Jun 05 2012, 06:22 PM
I am sure that they will get paid on the Ace, it was part of the registration process. Since I wasn't the TD, I can't answer how it will be done, but suffice it to say, I am confident that they will be receiving their payout on the ace quickly.
