Who is the best player(s) NOT to win an MPO Disc Golf World Championship?
Feel free to do a top 5 or a top 10 list. I am going to put some thought into a top 5 list, but Scott Stokely immediately comes to my brain, so I will probably put him at #1 on my list.

What an impressive list of names! So many outstanding talented names on this thread!
I would like to see this thread take a different turn. Don't just give us a name, give us a case for you name.

Why is your guy the best disc golfer never to win the big one!

For most people the answer why they never won the big one is Ken Climo.

I will omit the young guns out there as they have not been around that long and have a bigger window to get it done.

Steve Rico is the answer,

-he won his first open tourney at 16 (i think it was his first open event), so expectations have been pretty high for him and I think that a lot of people that have followed the sport probably expected him to break through at some point. I would not say his window is closed, but its getting closer...

-has been rated over 1030 for most of his adult life, having played with a few guys over 1020, an almost 10 year run at 1030 is insane.

-if the pdga compiled numbers like they should he would certainly be in the top 3 all time in cash won. (164,647 to date) behind Kenny and Barry.

-world finishes since 2002. 5,DNF,4,5,7,9,8,9,7. not sure of the deal in 03 but that is remarkable consistancy to never finish outside of the top 10!

I would also put Schweb, Josh Anthon and John E. Mcray in the discussion but I think that Rico's body of work is a bit better.

It is my understanding that Rico's DNF in 2003 was due to disqualification due to violations of PDGA Rules of Play Competition Manual Sections (http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/PDGA_Competition_Manual_2011.pdf) 3.3 B. 1,3 & 6.

I believe he was on the 3rd card at the time and likely headed for another top 10 finish. His body of work is indeed impressive and he is surely one of the best players in the world not to win the big one. He is going to be an absolute force in the Masters division when gets there though, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wins Pro Worlds Masters and Tim Selinske United States Masters Championship titles several times each.

Answer is probably Rico. Looks like he's actually 4th in money after Feldberg.

Yeah, he has made enough in his career to buy a 1000 sq/ft house in SoCal ...which is why he has a "day job".

At least we are better off than female bowlers!

Like in golf, money won is the most OVERRATED stat out there.

To me, it is nothing more than an indication of the best player of the last decade (more so in golf in that disc golf, however).

With inflation, growing purse sizes and such, it's easy to assume that someone now won more money than someone 10 - 15 years ago.

It would bet that if Nikko continues his pace in both tournaments played and high finishes in most of these events, he will become the all time leader in 10 - 15 years. Does that mean he will be the best player of all time at time? Unless he wins pretty much every worlds from now to then, I would say no.

Considering there are ten times as many 1000 rated players as in 01-02' I think how many times someone wins worlds is also a poor way to judge who is the best of all time...

Basically I think winning worlds bwecomes harder each and every year.

Also I don't think that avg purses have increased as much as inflation over 20 years.....87' Worlds payed out about the same to 10th as they do now....

1. Do you have a better way or are you just pointing out all the poor ways?

2. What's your point?

3. Worlds has never been about payout, but I'd like to see your number from '87 Worlds 10th place. I couldn't find the results anywhere.

Dave Mac took 9th that year and told me how much he took home......I can't find any real results either....Thanks PDGA!

When you factor in inflation the payouts have actually gotten worse. It may never have been about payouts but it sure is bad!....and I think that maybe this should change with the PDGA giving more $$$ (which they are supposedly going tio do) along with Innova and Discraft giving $$$ instead of discs.

Dave Mac tied for 9th in 1988 with Bob Ryan and Steve Slasor and each won $460. Ziggy and Devan tied for 10th last year and took home $850 each.
