One month into the Ice Bowl season 4 of the 5 Golden Sombrero Ice Bowl Series events are in the books. With only the San Marcos Ice Bowl left on Feb 26th, Bert Cotton is the series leader with 121 points, followed by A.J. Risley with 111, Mark Verrochi with 97, Carl Renda with 95 and Evan Taylor with 92 points. Each point signifies one player beaten at a GS Series Ice Bowl, withthe top 3 scores being used for each player. Bert's first place finish at Oak Valley, combined with strong showings at Redlands and Chavez Ridge have put him in the lead. There is still an opportunity for others to catch up, as the San Marcos event typically maxs out at 54 players, so there are points to be had. Full standings so far can be found here (http://sandiegoacesdgc.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/golden_sombrero_standings.xls).

The San Marcos Ice Bowl will be held Saturday, Feb. 26th at Montiel Park in San Marcos. It's the 4th annual Ice Bowl held here and will benefit the North County Food Bank. Registration forms are available here (http://sandiegoacesdgc.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/2011_ice_bowl_flyer1.pdf), and online registration is available through Disc Golf U (http://www.discgolfunited.com/disc-golf-tournaments/tournament-dashboard.cfm/tourn_id/160). In addition to the traditional 36-hole Ice Bowl we are holding a 9-hole "Fun Round" for new players during the 36-hole lunch break. And speaking of lunch, lunch from Tina's Deli (sandwich, salad, chips, drink) is available for a mere $5, pre-paid.

The San Marcos Ice Bowl always has a lot of extras - Disc Golf Bingo will be back, there will be a long putt contest to win an Ice Bowl hoodie, a hole-in-one prize of an Innova Discatcher Sport, and mulligans for sale that also double as raffle tickets. Stone Brewing has come through again with a few raffle prizes (for the over-21 crowd), and there will be prizes from other local merchants, the San Diego Aces and some Ice Bowl merchandise as well.

This is a trophy-only event, but remember we're raising funds to help feed hungry folks in our area. Each dollar raised from the tournament will feed a meal to three hungry people. Our goal is to feed over 3,000 meals from this event!

Join us Feb. 26th!!
