mixed doubles question...

on discnation.com it says that intermediate is less than 800. is that for the ladies rating? my rating is 899 (rec men - although i usually play intermediate). do we play intermediate or since my rating is above 800 to we have to play advanced?

edman
Feb 02 2011, 12:28 PM
Men and Women will follow the PDGA guidelines just as a singles event. Both players have to fit within the ratings of the divsion they are playing for the doubles event. I will have that explained better on the entry forms here very soon.

Unless one of us pick's up some guy off the street, I would think it would go by the men's rating. Very few ladies out rate their fellas (pdga rating only) LOL

We've lowered the entry fees for the doubles event and the flyer can be found at the following link. Open is now $50. On line sign up is available at discnation.com. This will be the series finale for the TX Swing this year starting with the Victoria Open. TWC will be Sunday at the same park. So grab you man and come play with us to raise some funds for the 2011 U.S.W.D.G.C. in September in Round Rock.

We have a few more fundraisers planned in the next few months, viva la TWC!!!

Shannon will be selling some CFR discs at Victoria Open, some Glow Champion Bossess, what....maybe some Champion Katanas...

I have my partner for mixed dubs, woohoo!!!

Vinnie once we get through this crazy swing Tiff and I will try to run a women's fundraiser in Houston and a PROmotion pack would be great. We can talk about it at Women's or pm me if it's easier. We've been working with Tristin (our 14 month old daughter) and she's got the concept of putting it in the basket, we just need to get her to throw it instead of waving it around and we'll have another junior in the numbers.

Moving closer to the swing as it cranks up this weekend in Victoria. Good luck with your event 3rd coast. To sign up for TWC or TX Mixed Doubles please go to discnation.com who is again a very big sponsor for the ladies of our sport.

Regarding the doubles events the flyer states "required". This means that if your rating is that or above then you are required to play in that division. Example-you don't have to be 970 rated to play pro, but if you are 970 then you have to. Entries are coming in and have the players list for both events up in the next few days. Northtown Park is a beautiful venue and we want to show it off to the ladies of golf. It's got 3 ponds and a creek that runs through, elevation and a awesome pavilion to house HQ.

The wrap up party for the swing will be Sat. night at Hanover's in Pflugerville, just minutes from the course. Really awesome place right in downtown with washer pits, shoes, volleyball and I'm sure we can wrangle in a basket. We'll have our own bar that goes out onto a big deck out back. Prizes and awards to be won by all, so see everbody there. Email me with any questions at ecoffey@alc-collegedale.com.

Both players lists are updated and it's never to late to sponsor our ladies. You can sign up at Discnation.com until next Wednesday. The juniors for TWC will play a smaller layout of some of the holes and a few temps. They will play 9 at lunch and the same 9 immediately after the women's 2nd round. We will be starting early both days and I'll have the schedule posted by the weekend as well as some scorecards you can download on the Double R website. Now who's ready for some washers at Hanovers Sat. night?

Latest players list for TWC is up and the Juniors<13 are the biggest division. The youths are taking over the sport and TWC is bringing them in. The players meeting on Sat is for Mixed Dubs not TWC. TWC has it's own players meeting on Sun. You can check in for both events starting on Friday at the park between 5-7 and also on Sat. and Sun. morning.

Huge thanx to everyone that came together to make this weekend a HUGE success - amazing friends, family, & club. Proud - as always - to say I'm from ROUND ROCK.

A few people I forget to thank - 1st my brother - my friend & drinking buddy, my caddie, & my ninja. Don't know many people that will staff your event, run to the store (last minuteish) to purchase & provide lunch for over 80 people, & oh yea - carry your bag all day. Thank you Steve-O - I love you. Des - to not even have to think about dinner (both nights thank you) was such a huge help. Thanx for feeding Edman & I & our crew - mmm lasagne. & Finally (doubt it, but let's see what happens) thank you to P-Dub, the Double R Disc Golf Club & the NorthTown MUD/city of Pflugerville for an amazing venue & the YEARS of work it takes to bring a vision to reality.

This was supposed to be a "scaled down" FUNdraiser for the 2011 uswdgc. Over 80 players yesterday & almost 70 today - ladies stations, HUGE raffle, basket give aways, escorts, free lunches, on & on - nothing scaled down about this year - can't wait to see what these boyz can dream up for USWDGC in September. Thanx for coming out - can't wait til we do it again.

PS - mixed dubs - huge hit. Loved spending over 6 hours doing what I love with the man I love more than life. thanx for all you do Edman - I love you.

Thank You LaLa, it was Great to see you back on the lead card and in the money! Big ups to all that helped make this event such a huge success. The men of discgolf really enjoy and look forward to this event!! Congrats to Edman and V for exceeding expectations once again. Thanks to all the clubs that supported TWC with merch, staff and support. There are so many to thank, and it's best to not name names lest someone gets left out. You know who you are, and your help is what makes this such a HUGE SUCCESS!!! Harrell with his raffle mojo wins the basket and then goes Noble Gesture and donates to WTF for more fundraising...Hero!

you'll have to wait for the official results. no propogators in the int and rec divisions for unofficial ratings

As someone who played AM and got handed generously inflated round ratings, I have to say I think the int and rec divisions got short changed on round ratings. I mean, seriously, the layouts were exactly the same except for two tees, where the longs were less than 100 feet further away from the pin than the shorts. Yet, an AM's 90 in round 1 got a 794, while an int player's 90 in round 1 got a 686. Similarly, an AM's 93 in round 1 got a 771, while an int player's 93 in round 1 got a 658.

The PDGA estimates that 10 rating points equals about 1 throw. But is it reasonable to think that those two slightly longer tees made a difference of 11 throws per round? I don't think so.

So, you int and rec players, don't think we didn't see what you did there. Good rounds! Keep 'em coming!

Ratings are just a bunch of numbers that don't mean squat at the end of the day. Kinda like something that just measures a certain dangle we gals just don't have. ;)

Playing big events with lots of ladies, that's what's fun and keeps the girls coming back. Hope to meet you sometime soon, Jennifer!

trying to remember the layout from dubs... let's see...
hole 1's short tee took off a stroke from the long box along with 7, 9, 11, any more??? can't remember, but 12's short box didn't mean anything...

so that's 4 strokes, at least, that a "perfect game" would have dropped.

a long tee score of 90 and short tee 90 should have a 4 stroke difference... 40 points or so?

vinnie
May 19 2011, 09:53 AM
I understand everyones fustration with ratings...........not the easiest thing to figure in your head......but ask chuck and he has always got an answer that will comfuse you more....but he know best.
I think its 8 rating points to a stroke...............I will say this and have been faced with this in the past int / rec usually play a different course the the other divisions, that makes for no rating setters in those divisions for the different course. My best advice is if ratings are something you are tracking then play where the rating setters are

Pros and advanced only played longs on holes 1 and 12 on Sunday. So that would be one stroke difference. I distinctly remember because my card accidentally played one of the other long tees and an official warned us not to play any longs except 1 and 12. I thought we'd have to take a penalty for playing the hole wrong, but he said we didn't have to. I strategically chose not to appeal that ruling. :)

Ratings add fun factor to me, and I do pay attention to propagators per layout for that reason. The only time it usually matters is at ladies events, where Int rated players can't even generate ratings. I'm playing up again at the USWDGC in September partly for that reason. It's not such an issue at other events, because most of the rec men's field and all of the int rated men can propagate ratings.

Not sure what boxes all cards actually played or what boxes someone told you to play, or what holes you remember having long tees or not; but the score card says Int/Rec played short holes & short boxes were marked for holes 1, 7, 9, 11, 12. 18 was planned as a long hole for Pro & Ad, but was changed game day to have us all play the same basket & that information was posted @ the tee box.

Over all there were 5 tee boxes that differed between the two groups adding about 750 ft to the Pro/Adv vs Int Rec. Short boxes on 7, 9, & 11 were definately stroke savers - saw peeps on my card take a couple of strokes to get to the short tee both rounds. Hole 1 - atleast a stroke. 12 - that's mental, not distance. Still feel it saved Rec/Int players a stroke or 2 not to mention a disc or ten. So that mentally adds up to about 7 strokes saved by short tees (not assuming an OB shot on 12 if you played the long tee).

Moving up in September @ USWDGC? - the Gold Rock is a great place to cut your teeth.
