Having attended many majors and had the opportunity to play as well i am totally amazed that among the endless items to prepare for one is always missed. visible as it may, or may not be, i have to wonder was it just overlooked or do people really prefer the naked basket? the proverbial calling card of our sport, the basket, was an upgrade from just the pole with a target area. Ed continued the target on the pole with the focal tape. even the DGA of Ed's creation omits the Focal Tape in adds and Worlds trophy baskets. Watching the Clash series DVD i continue my dismay at Majors and 'A' tiers where the focal tape is the least thing absent, the hole number is essential for anyone who has not played the course before. most locals forget that.
Put two baskets side by side, one with Focal Tape and one without. Your brain will like the one with the Focal Tape because it serves as a point of reference. Even if you aim at another point on the basket the bright tape helps your brain visualize your trajectory and determine the distance subconsciously.
The best tape, and i have tried many looking to find the brightest and most durable, has been the 3M used by the DGA with the clear protectant Film over the colored tape. this combo will last three years or more.
