Hey Folks,

Kick off the new year with an ACE at Chavez Ridge in Elysian Park at DISC’s 9th Ice Bowl In Paradise on Jan 22rd, 2011. Steve Valencia will be the TD this year and he and the Chavez Ridge Club are looking forward to hosting this year's event. YES - there will be a limit on the number of players in the event. Avoid disappointment, fill out and return the entry form ASAP (the flyer will soon be up at pdgasignup.com). We will again be a PDGA* and a So Cal Disc Golf event this year! So, sign up with the PDGA and with So Cal prior to the event to collect points for your play in the Ice Bowl**. So Cal will likely again be handing out membership fulfillment at the event, including the 2011 bag tags. We will also be one of the Golden Sombrero series of disc golf charity events here in So Cal (contact Allen Risley for Golden Sombrero info).
This Ice Bowl In Paradise at Chavez Ridge DGC in Elysian Park will be run much like past years events. You will get a special T-shirt with your DISC membership, a good lunch and have fun playing disc golf, Disc Arcade games and Ring of Fire. Please donate some $ on your Ice Bowl entry. We will spread these donations to some of the other Golden Sombrero charities this year as well as help out the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. DISC will also continue with our Youth Ultimate work and improvements to the Chavez Ridge course. Our thanks to this year’s helpful and generous players, volunteers and sponsors (PDGA, So Cal Disc Golf and Discovering the World), and thanks to Dave Hadder and Ray Diaz for helping and to Steve Valencia for stepping up as TD for this year's event.
If you are interested in knowing what Discsports In Southern California has done for you lately, in addition to running the Fling XIV in 2010 we again ran our Youth Discsports Program for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Youth Ultimate has been doing well lately with our programs with LAUSD and at the Silver Lake Rec Center. The Ivanhoe Elementary team that we sponsored got 2st place at the biggest youth ulty event in the world – The Spring Reign in Seattle. For more info check out www.discsports.org (which links to our Yahoo group site).
The disc golf course we installed in LA is doing great! The Chavez Ridge Disc Golf Course has been delivering on the promised benefits to the park and the community and it is getting constant play from appreciative players. Please contact Cliff (contact info below*) if you can help with any of our education and recreation projects, or wish to help in other projects to grow the sport.

Thanks so much for your support and Play LA!
