One of my goals as your new State Coordinator was to create a website where I could share information and a site where I could direct cities or organizations in the state who had an interest in disc golf.

The url is: www.okpdga.com

This is where you will find the official calendar of events for Oklahoma. I moved all the upcoming dates and I have added a few for 2011.

The side bar has several sections such as About Us, News, Calendar etc.

The news section will have a monthly newsletter where I will recap the previous month and upcoming events. I will also post all PDGA announcements I receive in this section..

The site is about 90% complete. Gary Nail is helping me with the photo section and I hope to post video as well.

I hope you find the site entertaining and informative. Our state has a rich disc golf history and I am looking forward to a great 2011 season.

Thanks Brad. I am still learing a few tricks. I think it will be a good resource for everyone.

And besides, it's another disc golf related website, and we all love those obviously..

OK, everyone needs to check out the Official state calendar at www.okpdga.com

This is still subjet to change, a little. The events with ?? behind them are tentative pending confirmation from the TD.

If anyone wants dates please let me know. The calendar is filling quickly.

Evan gave me the certain Arkansas dates, Russco gave me his dates. I still want to coordinate with Smitty the KS state coordinator but I think we should have minimal conflicts.

Let me know if there are any questions or request..

Michael - I may have gave you the wrong day for Ft. Smith Ice Bowl - should be on the 12th of February, Saturday (down as the 13th on Sunday)

Same day as Lincoln's Birthday, how dare the US government set a date on my event ;)

We will still have our Super Class Ice Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 13th for anyone interested in throwing lids

I am still trying to get some dates from the Northwest corner of Arkieland - mostly DG Monkey events and hopefully a Fayetteville Ice Bowl

The calendar on my site is not working correctly. This is a Google issue and trust me they are being blasted with complaints. They are reporting it could take a few days to fix.

I had no idea how many people and companies rely on a Google calendar.

Anyway, thanks for your patience. I am in the process of moving some dates to the TDSA Yahoo calendar.

I guess techies love a problem. I found a google site where some people found a work around. I tried it and it worked!!

Google is supposed to have it all fixed by Monday. In the meantime, outside of the Revolutionary War tournament this weekend, all the dates are correct and lined up with the correct day of the week.

***Message from Michael Treat***

I noticed there are zero post on our board. I sent the PDGA an email Thursday explaining that even though I had renewed I couldn't post.

Here is their response:

You will be able to post Wednesday afternoon at the latest. Dave is working on the error. All members should have 45 day grace period but for some reason it is not working this morning. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your help!

I thought I would pass this on to save everyone the hassle of emailing the PDGA.

Matt can still post because he paid twice last year by mistake, thanks to the Memorial, so he is already current through 2011.

In case you haven't checked out the home page, the Certified Officials Exam is ready online.

The test cost $10.00 and all TD's and players partcipating in Majors or NT's are required to pass the test.

It is cool in that it is open book, not timed and you can see all 25 questions without paying!!

I encourage everyone with the need to go ahead and get the test completed. It is something that is easy to forget.

Also, I have a January update/newsletter on the OKPDGA website. Scheduling is pretty much complete for 2011 though I am sure a few more dates will fill in.

I plan on a monthly post there and that is the official calendar for the state.

Check it out at www.okpdga.com

I received the following message from Harold Duvall, which was sent to all State Coordinators. I was confused as to how many spots we would receive. I understood in the past State Coordinators received a spot, which Joe always gave away via a tournament.

It appears we have one spot for Oklahoma. I have not decided which tournament to use but I am leaning toward the State Championships which will be held at Haikey and most likely Hunter too.

Here is the message:

************************************************** ******************

Dear Fellow Coordinator,

I hope that this note finds you well in the New Year.

Many people are already asking about the selection process to determine State Reps for the 2011 US Disc Golf Championship. Id like to personally explain how the process will work, and a little more about why folks should be excited.

For the first time, the USDGC will use a performance-based system to determine the United States Champion. This style of play provides all players with a PDGA rating of 850 and above with an opportunity to compete fairly with one another. Quite simply, this format rewards those who play the best relative to their own skill level.

Our first regional qualifying event was the Piney Woods Pro-Am in December. We have since found it helpful to view results (actual v/s performance-based) to gain a better understanding of how the system works. You may want to take a moment and compare the Piney Woods Actual Results, with the DGU Performance Results, to see firsthand how the results varied.

We are encouraging PDGA State Coordinators to choose an event in their state that will determine the USDGC Rep. Ideally the event you select will boast a large field with many different divisions. The bigger the better. Each 850+ rated player whose division plays the same course, pin and tee placements, and rotation, is eligible to earn the privilege to represent your state.

State qualifiers are not required to use this new format. If you do, the USDGC will make it as simple as possible to implement the performance aspect in an existing event. Once the event is over, your results will run through our performance-based calculations to determine which player receives the State Rep invitation. Should the winning player be unable to attend, you may invite the next highest finisher until a selection is made.

Again, the method of selection is up to you. We value the wonderful variety of disc golf across our country. We hope that you will join us in experimenting with a style of play that should encourage many more of your golfers to try to be the 2011 United States Champion.

Part of my responsibilities as your State Coordinator is to pass on useful information when I can.

As you know we are waiting on the results from the USDGC to see who has won the Oklahoma spot. I received a call from Innova and they said the round ratings were missing from the Haikey Tournament. Sure enough they are, as are all of the other tournaments accross the country.

So, I went to Andrew Sweeton who is the new Tour Manager to see what was up.

He sent this response and I found it very interesting. Round ratings have always confused me and this helps, at least a little:

Tournament results are shown on-line in three different ways at three different stages:

Stage 1 - Unofficial Results- These are based on the TD's upload of the scores and the number of holes and par for each round for each division. The unofficial results include Unofficial Scores and Unofficial Round Ratings.
These are dependent on the TD doing an upload and can vary when available, sometimes TDs will upload every round shortly after completion, sometimes they will upload nightly for multiple day tournaments, sometimes they will upload several days after the tournament is completed.

Stage 2 - Official Results - These are Official Scores uploaded by the PDGA office based on the TD Report sent in by the TD. When these are uploaded, the Unofficial Round Ratings are no longer displayed so as to avoid confusion with part of the data (Scores and Payout) being official and part of the data (Ratings) being unofficial. These are dependent on the TD sending in their TD report. Some are sent in promptly within a day or two of the tournament, some we have to chase for months.

Stage 3 - Official Results with Official Round Ratings: These are shown after a Ratings Update has been completed. This is an exhaustive process that takes place based on the Official Scores plus the detailed course information provided in the TD Report. When completed, the current members Player Statistics pages are also updated (dependent on accurate names and PDGA numbers within the TD reports.)

The event you are interested is Stage 2 (the previous Round Ratings were unofficial, you wouldn't want to use them anyway.) The official ratings will be displayed when the ratings update is done next week.

So, I thought this was interesting so I wanted to pass it on..

So, I thought this was interesting so I wanted to pass it on..

very informative! i had always suspected it was something like this. now we all know for sure what is going on.

i did submit in my TD report detailed information about the island on hole 18 and how it was played with the drop zone. I also made a call shortly after submitting my report to make sure i explained myself properly. I didnt want anyone getting cheated out of a few rating points they deserved, especially when something as important as the USDGC spot is on the line.

my question is this - Will you figure in the round ratings in relation to their player rating as of 7-12 (when the official round ratings post) or their rating as of the morning of the tourney? I'm assuming it's the latter of the two, but havging this explained may clear the water for those interested.

I spoke with Adrian at Innova. They will use the players ratings at the time of the tournament.

Once the new updates come out next Tuesday, July 12th, we will know the final/official round ratings for the State Championship.

So we are all set. Existing ratings at the time of the tournament will be used and compared to official round ratings at the time of the event.

I am excited to know who will get this spot!!!
