Hey all. Me and a couple buddys from Toronto have gotten into making a pure DG trip once a year.

We visited California last year and hit Oak Grove, Huntington Beach, La Mirada, Stafford lake, DeLaveaga, (tried to get to Sylmar but it was pouring rain) Coyote Point and Golden Gate Park.

On a side note, just wanted to say how welcoming and helpful all the locals were at all the courses we visited. We hooked up with at least one person at every course who was more than willing to show us around for at least a round or two.

We are thinking about heading to Florida this year and was wondering if anyone could help us pick the cream of the crop.

Anyone have any recommendations on DG courses you can not miss when in Florida?

A half-informed opinion from my vacations there---I haven't played everything in the state---but aim for the Orlando and/or Tampa/St. Pete area (not too far apart) and check out

Barnett Park in Orlando
Turkey Lake in Orlando
Cliff Stephens in Clearwater

The Orlando courses each have two 18-hole courses, so you get a lot of play in.

The only must-play course I ever played in Florida is closed (Gran Canyon in Brooksville). But those listed above are very good.

ive always thought tocobaga 25 miles south of cliff stevens gave you more atmosphere and character than cliff stevens, but for tournament play cliff stevens is better than tocobaga. id still put tocobaga on the list....

I'm with Martin on this one. We have done a few Florida disc golf trips and played about a dozen courses in different cities. I think for the Florida atmosphere you can't beat Tocabaga in St Pete. Short and tight through the palm trees, a couple holes near the beach, a bog, just looks like what I want to see in Florida. Also a fan of Tuscawilla in Daytona, we named our cat after that course.

Ocala Greenways should not be missed (secluded in the ocala national forest) Also Pine Oaks in Ocala if you need to play some longlong holes)
Barnett and Turkey Lake in Orlando are sweet venues
Cliff Stevens and Coachman in Clearwater
Wickham Park in Melbourne
4 palms in Jacksonville.

If you planned it right I would come down 95. Play Jacksonville, continue south and Play tuscawilla in Daytona, continue down 95 to Melbourne.

Then comes decision time,
1. either cut off south Florida and head I-4 to Orlando for turkey lake and Barnett, and continue over to Clearwater for Cliff and Coachman and Tocobaga(it is scenic, just murders my rating every year). Then head north on 75 and catch Both Ocala courses. and on the way out of the state hit Swaunee or Tallahassee

2. After Melboune, continue south on 95 and play Tradewinds in Ft Lauderdale, then south to Miami for Kendall 1 and 2. Then you are so close to the keys that you should just go down and rest your arm at a bar. come back up and cross alligator alley (Hosfeld just put in a course on the indian reservation) up to I75 to Ft Meyers (courses there) and Sarasota (more courses) across the Skyway to Tocobaga, Up to Clearwater, Floral City, Ocala and Suwanne.

Sounds like a good time

And then when you get home go play the toronto island course! Had a blast on that one
