Treat , you responded to the membership discussion, how about some updates from Rock Hill?
Did any of our boys qualify Saturday? If not how close did they come or what did they shoot? Did the new OB rule have a huge effect?

It appears the new rule has made the course even tougher. I predicted a 68 par would get you in but was suprised to see a 4 over did the job.
Matt Peckham - 67
Justin Moore - 70
Hunter Todd - 71
Dutch Napier - 72
Glenn Patterson - 72

Alrighty now, here is your update sports fans..
Everything is going great. Drew didn't qualify and the new OB rules is tough!!
He started great 3 down after 5. He took a 9 on hole 12, the one before 888, and that pretty much did it.
Dave is right the scores are going to be higher and the rounds longer.
Anyway, we played Reedy Creek and Hornets Nest today. Both great examples of North Carolina disc golf.
And, the big story from today, Drew aced hole #6 at Hornets Nest. He threw a beat in destroyer 397 feet and just pured it in on the right side. One of those no doubt aces.
As soon as he threw it I said that is a perfect shot, and it was!!
Devan finished up doubles today, no cash. Tomorrow is practice day and we plan on playing the new Stan McDaniels course..
The weather is very nice, pretty much the same as Tulsa..
So we are having a great time, more updates to come..

Monday update. We started the day going to the Innova east coast factory. That is always a gas to see so many disc in one place!. We saw McCoy which was cool.
After that we went to play Stan McDaniels new course Eastway Park. It is brand new, like frames still around the tee pads. This is another great course with both woods and open shots with great basket placement.
Devin and Matt went to Winthrop for practice. Joe Ro and Keldog are hear cooking up guess what, thats righ tacos!!
The weather is great and I am looking forward to the tournament..

FYI - Billy Crump is saying in his USDGC interview that the qualifiers were:
Matt Peckham - 67
Isach Chainy - 69
Peter Wingart - 69
Justin Moore - 70
Dennis Young - 70
Justin Atwater Taylor - 70
Eric Roadhouse lost in a playoff for the last spot and there was an extra spot because of Dynamic Disc sponsor dropping out.

We had another fun day yesterday. We woke and and made a raid on the USDGC pro shop. Bought a few clothing items and of course a little plastic.
Then we drove back to Charlotte and played another Stan McDaniels course Nevin Park. This course is full of beautiful 600 foot holes through trees, with great fairways.
Most of the holes I had to throw twice to see the basket. It may sound tough, and it was, but it was also very playable. You don't have to be Climo to make it through and par is doable if you stay in the fairway. Lots of fun and another great example of NC disc golf.
Matt is caddying for Devin who is already on the course. Drew and I are headed to the course in a bit to watch Barry and then Climo.
The weather is still perfect, chilly in the am at 40 degrees then warming up to mid 70's in the afternoon.
I think the Okie players are going to represent very well. Devan and Dorries are playing very well. I haven't seen Crowl or Coda play but you know they will be in the hunt. Looking forward to seeing first round scores with the new OB rule!
More updates to come..

John E McCray is 2 over par total...
but took an 7 over par 11 on the par 4 10th. OUCH :P
Devan in with a 68, started with 4 over thru 3 holes, tough start.
Finished well though. :)

Grandma's boy Josh is on fire! and Adam laid down a crazy good round one stroke behind him and then right behind them is Paul followed by the Dude. All at the top of what looks like one of the craziest USDGCs ever with the stroke and distance rule.
Rotan and Keldog shot some decent rounds also.
Boy Wonder Coda will need to put his cape on (as he has done in years past) and turn on his A game and get back in the mix. This is the kind of USDGC course and he is the type of player that can do just that!

Josh -5, Adam -4, Paul -1, the Dude even, Coda +7, Rotan and Kelly (adopted Okie) +15.

I know Kevin McCoy finished 3rd one year while he was living in Tulsa, but that could have been the pre-dot era:)

Yes that was pre-dot technology. Josh is our first.
Talked to Rotan and just to show you how quick it can happen -1 and three holes later +11.

Another great day. We followed Devan today and he shot pretty good. The weather has been perfect, literally no clouds at all.
So far we have played 6 courses. Matt and Andrew have both hit aces.
We will see what Saturday holds. I have been predicting a Nikko repeat and I am sticking to it.
We are heading home after the festivities tomorrow which should put us back in Tulsa by mid afternoon Sunday.
All of the Okies have played great. It is amazing to see actually. The course is in impeccable shape.
This is a great event and everyone that can make it someday should..

With the names I see on that qualifying list, not sure it will be a USDGC. Yes, it is at Rock Hill and yes it is suuposed to be the same layout. But it doesn't appear the we will have the big names of 2010.
When a player can finish 15th in advance and qualify, it makes you wonder.

I totally agree Dave, this handicap system is dumb
They should have made qualifying the same as previous years except just for the Advanced divisions...

The upside is that a whole slew of players that may never had a chance to see or even play the course, will have their day.

Dec 20 2010, 10:34 AM
it appears to be a genius idea, they made it a purely AM event without actually coming out and calling it that. If I lived closer, I think it would be fun to play just to see how the ranking system would work, but to make a long trip for a handicapped event is where you will lose a lot of pro interest. But I don't think they are going for pro interest in this one. it is a good idea for them, and a great way for other people to experience winthrop, I just wish they didn't have to get rid of the year's best tournament just to have it.

Dec 20 2010, 03:47 PM
What will they pay out structure look like? I have heard cash. I have heard plastic only. I have heard trophy only? If cash will all prize finishers then have to move up to pro for accepting cash? That would be a great system f thats the case. :)
