Fellow Disc Golfers,

On Friday afternoon, Oct. 29th and Saturday morning, Oct.30th, 2010, Cal State San Marcos will hold the first tournament on our new disc golf course, the First Gentlemans Disc Golf Open. CSUSM First Gentleman Jim Mickelson will be hosting this tournament, which is a fundraiser to benefit ACE Scholars Services here at CSUSM. You can download a flyer for the tournament here: http://sandiegoacesdgc.files.wordpre...finalfinal.pdf (http://sandiegoacesdgc.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/csubrochurefinalfinal.pdf)

ACE Scholars Services works with former foster youth, aged out of the system, who are transitioning into college life. You can find out more about their work at: http://www.csusm.edu/ace/about-ace.html

The tournament has two parts, both sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA). There is a 2-day Championship Flight for more serious disc golfers, played Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Online registration for this part of the event can be found here: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qst...ROD=1283872295 (http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1283872295)

The 1-Day Philanthropist Flight is designed for recreational disc golfers, CSUSM alumni, and members of the community who want to support ACE Scholars Services and try out a new game at the same time. This will also be played Saturday morning. Online registration for this part of the event can be found here: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qst...ROD=1283874266 (http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1283874266)

Your entry fee will include:
- Either one or two rounds of disc golf, depending on your flight.
- A collared, dri-fit shirt with the tournament logo.
- A premium-plastic golf disc with tournament design.
- A microfiber disc golf towel.
- Commemorative mini marker disc.
- Catered lunch on Saturday at the McMahan House, hosted by First Gentleman Jim Mickelson and his wife, CSUSM President Karen Haynes.
- A silent auction to benefit ACE Scholars Services.
- Other assorted goodies and contests

This will be a great opportunity to try out the CSUSM Disc Golf Course if you havent already, and a wonderful way to help out the former foster youth supported by ACE Scholars Services. How can you beat a combination like that? Please join me there!

Hi all,

We're about three weeks out from the First Gentleman's Disc Golf Open - Cal State San Marcos' first PDGA-sanctioned tournament. Please help us fill the field for this important event. Because of the charitable tie-in with ACE Scholars Services and participation of the university president, this tournament will get significant media coverage. It will be good for disc golf in San Diego to have a strong showing of support from the disc golf community alongside the civic leaders who will be in attendance.

As described in my earlier post, there will be a sizeable player's pack, whether you play in the two-day championship flight or the Saturday morning-only "fun" flight, including a catered lunch on Saturday at the university's McMahan House conference center, overlooking holes 7 and 8.

Your entry fee includes a tax-deductible donation to ACE Scholars Services, and if your entry is paid for by your business or employer they can get the deduction. On-line registration is available through PDGA.com or you can enter by mail.

Check out the tournament web site at http://www.csusm.edu/ace/discgolfopen/index.html (http://www.csusm.edu/ace/discgolfopen/index.html). Or for questions about the First Gentlemans Disc Golf Open, please contact Monica Watkins, of Synergistic Solutions at 760-310-9468, or e-mail [email protected] ([email protected]), or Allen Risley at 760-822-7641 or [email protected] ([email protected]).

Thanks in advance for your support!
